Watchman held for growing cannabis in vacant plot in Hyderabad
The accused, identified as Kailash Joshi, had been employed as a watchman at Neeraj Villa Apartment. An officer from Narayanguda police said he had been growing the plants in an open plot situated between Neeraj Villa and Kirti Enclave, which had remained unoccupied for nearly a decade due to ownership disputes.
Following a tip-off, a police team led by Sub-Inspector Nagaraju, conducted a raid on the site with the assistance of the clues team. Joshi was found digging near the cannabis plants and attempted to flee when he saw the officers, but was apprehended and taken into custody.
During questioning, Joshi reportedly confessed to having a long-standing habit of consuming cannabis by boiling it in milk. 'Facing difficulty in sourcing it, he decided to cultivate the drug himself using the unused plot behind the apartment where he worked,' said the officer, adding that he brought cannabis seeds from his hometown in Uttarakhand and sowed them among pumpkin plants to avoid suspicion.
A total of 15 cannabis plants weighing 4.2 kilograms were seized, along with a digging tool and a mobile phone. Joshi, a resident of King Koti Road in Himayathnagar, was booked under relevant sections of the NDPS Act. Further investigation is underway.

Amritsar: The counter intelligence (CI) unit of the Punjab Police here on Saturday claimed to have busted a cross-border narcotics smuggling module with links to Pakistan and arrested four of its operatives. The CI, Amritsar, also recovered 4 kg of heroin from the possession of the arrested accused, said the police. Those arrested have been identified as Ranjit Singh and Karan Masih, both residents of Attari in Amritsar; and Manpreet Singh and Ajaypal Singh, both residents of Jandiala Guru in Amritsar, said Gaurav Yadav, director general of police, Punjab. Apart from recovering heroin, the police teams also impounded the auto rickshaw, which the accused persons were using inconspicuously to retrieve and deliver the drug consignments. Yadav said preliminary investigations revealed that the arrested operatives were acting under the directions of a Pakistan-based smuggler identified as Shah, who was using drones to drop narcotic consignments from across the border. The operatives further delivered the narcotics consignments to other parties in the state, he added. Additional DCP Rajesh Dandotiya said the accused, identified as Abhimanyu Rajput, a resident of Sonkatch in Dewas district, was found in possession of 12.68 grams of the banned synthetic drug. Acting on confidential inputs, the Crime Branch had intensified surveillance against individuals involved in the illegal drug trade across Indore. During a routine inspection under the Bhandari Bridge, officers noticed a suspicious man who appeared nervous upon seeing a government vehicle. He was immediately stopped and questioned. Upon interrogation, the man revealed his identity and confessed to purchasing drugs at low rates and selling them at higher prices to drug addicts in the city, with the intent of making quick money. Rajput, who works in the transport segment of the event management industry and has studied up to class 12, admitted to being involved in the narcotics trade for financial gains. The seized contraband, MD drugs weighing approximately 12.68 grams, has been confiscated. A case has been registered against him under Section 8/22 of the NDPS Act. Further legal proceedings are underway based on the ongoing investigation.

2 arrested with 2.45 kg cannabis in Indore
INDORE: Crime Branch of Indore police on Saturday arrested two youths from Dhar for smuggling cannabis in the city and recovered 2.475 kg of the illegal drug from their possession. The contraband, valued at approximately Rs 50,000 in the international market, was being sold to addicts in Indore after being sourced at lower prices. Additional DCP Rajesh Dandotiya said acting on specific intelligence, the Crime Branch team was conducting routine checks near Chaitanya Hanuman Mandir on MR 04 Road when they noticed two individuals behaving suspiciously upon seeing a government vehicle. The duo was intercepted and later identified as Zeeshan Khan, 20, and Rehan Khan, 19, both residents of Dhar. During preliminary interrogation, the accused confessed to buying cannabis at cheap rates and selling it in the city to drug users at higher prices for quick monetary gains. Zeeshan, who works in ceiling fan installation and repair, and Rehan, a mechanic by profession, were caught red-handed with the contraband and a motorcycle used in the operation. A case has been registered against them at Crime Branch police station under section 8/20 of the NDPS Act. Further legal proceedings are underway based on the investigation.
