Sifang Hosts Landmark Power Technology Forum: Global Experts Chart Path for Grid Modernization

Kicking off the forum, Ms. Gao Xiuhuan's opening address underscored technology's role in global energy transitions, setting the stage for technical deep-dives. Engineer Herrera followed with a call to action on cross-industry collaboration, while Engineer Caidic's keynote 'Empowering the Grid' outlined Philippine strategies for infrastructure upgrades through technical training and standardization.

The following keynote speeches of the day are given by technical elites from Sifang. Ms. Li Wei proposed HVDC solutions for the Philippines' archipelagic grid challenges. Mr. Wang Jikang shared insights on STATCOM and grid-forming technologies for renewable integration. Mr. Zou Dengfeng discussed EMS/DMS applications for green grid stability. Ms. Zhang Jiamei advocated for wide-area monitoring systems based on her Imperial College research. Mr. Xu Kehan addressed relay protection innovations for modern power systems. Mr. Luo Nuo wrapped the forum with 'Generation-Grid-Load-Storage Monitoring and Control', emphasizing the need for unified control systems.

UN working for ceasefire in besieged Sudan city
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said Friday he has been in contact with the warring sides in Sudan to try to reach a ceasefire in the besieged and starving city of El-Fasher. Sudan's army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan has agreed in principle to such a humanitarian pause, his ruling Transitional Council said. But the opposing paramilitary side, led by al-Burhan's erstwhile deputy Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, said it had received no truce proposal. Since April 2023, the army has been at war with Daglo's Rapid Support Forces, killing tens of thousands and tearing Africa's third-largest country in two. In the latest violence, paramilitary shelling of El-Fasher on Friday killed 13 people including three children, a medical source told AFP. Another 21 were injured. In a telephone conversation with al-Burhan, Guterres called for a weeklong ceasefire in El-Fasher to allow humanitarian aid to be delivered to civilians, UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said. The city has been besieged by the RSF for more than a year. "We are making contacts with both sides with that objective," Guterres told reporters. "We have a dramatic situation in El- Fasher," he said. "The people are starving in an extremely difficult situation, so we need to have an amount of time of truce for aid to be distributed, and you need to have it agreed with some days in advance to prepare a massive delivery in the El-Fasher." "I have a positive answer from General Burhan, and I am hopeful that both sides will understand how vital it is to avoid the catastrophe that we are witnessing in El-Fasher," he said. In a statement, the council that al-Burhan oversees said he had agreed to the truce proposal. But an RSF source told AFP Friday the paramilitary group had not received a ceasefire proposal. The RSF conquered nearly all of the vast western region of Darfur in the early months of the war, but has been unable to seize North Darfur state capital El-Fasher despite besieging the city for over a year. The UN has repeatedly warned of civilians trapped in the city with nearly no aid allowed in, and families forced to survive by eating leaves and peanut shells. At a Security Council meeting on Sudan on Friday, UN Assistant Secretary-General for Africa Martha Pobee suggested humanitarian pauses might be applied to other places in Sudan. "We are pursuing a predictable and time-bound humanitarian pause to facilitate safe humanitarian movements into and out of areas affected by ongoing fighting, beginning with El-Fasher, and allow civilians to leave voluntarily and securely," she said. Civilians report soaring prices and nearly all health facilities forced to shut due to fighting. A World Food Programme facility inside El-Fasher was damaged by repeated RSF shelling last month, and in early June five aid workers were killed in an attack on a UN convoy seeking to supply the city. KUCHING, June 28 (Bernama) -- The Jualan Rahmah MADANI programme serves as a key initiative that not only brings government services closer to the people but also helps young people manage their expenses in dealing with the rising cost of living. Media practitioner Asyraf Halim, 34, said living alone as a single man gave him more reason to pay closer attention to promotions on essential items. 'Since I started working and living on my own, I've learnt to manage my finances. The Jualan Rahmah programme has, in some ways, helped me to spend more prudently. 'Prices here are much lower than those at shopping malls and that's helped me save some money this month,' he told Bernama when met at the Jualan Rahmah MADANI programme held in conjunction with the Maal Hijrah Festival 2025 at the Sarawak State Mosque compound here today. The festival was organised by the Sarawak State Mosque Welfare Trust Board (LKMNS), while the Jualan Rahmah MADANI programme was held in collaboration with the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN). Sharing the same view was Ismasuzilla Bahari, 28, from Telaga Air, who said the lower prices offered made it easier for her to manage her spending and save for emergencies. 'The Jualan Rahmah programme helps me save a lot on essential items for my family. 'I used to spend about RM1,000 a month on wet and dry goods for the five of us. Now, with the Jualan Rahmah, I manage to save around RM300 to RM400 every month,' said the LKMNS staff member, who lives with her parents. Meanwhile, Zulhilmi Alet, 31, an assistant officer at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, said he regularly checked the Jualan Rahmah MADANI schedule, especially in Kuching, to purchase essential goods.
