Indonesian police detain 3 Australian men suspected of killing a fellow national in Bali

DENPASAR, Indonesia (AP) — Indonesian police say they are detaining three suspects for murder after an Australian tourist was shot to death at a villa in the resort island of Bali.
'We have successfully arrested three suspects last night,' Bali Police Chief Daniel Adityajaya told reporters in Denpasar, the provincial capital.
'The three suspects are Australian men and they are now being held and questioned for further investigation,' he said.
Zivan Radmanovic, a 32-year-old from Melbourne, was killed just after midnight on June 13 at a villa near Munggu Beach in Bali's Badung district. A second man, a 34-year-old from Melbourne, was left beaten in the attack.
Police earlier said they had detained two suspects, but further investigation led police to arrest a third man who helped them to prepare the killing, Adityajaya said.
Witnesses at the villa told investigators that two gunmen arrived on a scooter at the villa around midnight.
Radmanovic was shot in a bathroom of his room, where police found 17 bullet casings and two intact bullets.
Radmanovic's wife, Gourdeas Jazmyn, 30, told police that she suddenly woke up when she heard her husband screaming. She cowered under a blanket when she heard multiple gunshots.
She later found her husband's body and the other injured Australian, whose wife also testified to seeing the attackers.
Adityajaya said based on the facts and evidences collected by police on the ground, 'We have confidence that the three (suspects) are the perpetrators.'
Two of the men were arrested late Tuesday in Singapore and at Jakarta's Soekarno Hatta International Airport, while trying to flee. Indonesian police didn't say where the third suspect was apprehended.
Adityajaya said the men are now being held in Bali and can face various charges, including murder and firearm charges, that could carry up to a life sentence or the death penalty if found guilty.
He said police are still investigating the motive and how they got the weapon as firearm ownership and use are heavily regulated in Indonesia.
'We are still investigating the possibility of other suspects,' Adityajaya said.
He praised the collaboration between Indonesian police and immigration agencies in tracking the whereabouts of the suspects with the support of the Australian Federal Police and Interpol in the Southeast Asia region.

Three homeless people have been killed in Albuquerque since May

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Three homeless people have been murdered in three months here in the metro, and people who work with the homeless in Albuquerque are concerned. Being homeless in Albuquerque can be hard; it can also be dangerous. 'Unfortunately, this community is extremely vulnerable. They're outside, they have a lot less resources, and it can just be a really challenging environment to navigate,' said Charlie Verploegh, Deputy Director, Social Services and Connections with Health, Housing, and Homelessness. Story continues below Film: These 2010s movies and shows were filmed in Albuquerque. Have you seen them? New Mexico News Insiders: Addressing Education With New Mexico's Lt. Governor New Mexico Crime Files: Mother high on fentanyl nearly kills crossing guard sees no jail time News: Study gives recommendations on how ABQ Ride can improve safety on buses People who work with the homeless said they've noticed a rash of crimes against people on the streets. In May, two teenagers are accused of killing a homeless man who was found dead inside of tent behind an apartment on Carlisle Blvd. Surveillance video shows the teens walking by the man's tents shortly before shots were fired. A month later, in June, a different group of five teens went to a gas station where police said they tried to rob homeless people for gas money. It turned into a shoot-out with a bystander, and a homeless woman was shot and killed. In July, a 16-year-old is facing charges for chasing, shooting, and killing homeless man near Menual Blvd. and Eubank Blvd. Police believe this teen was also tied to a crime in Santa Fe, where a group attacked a pregnant woman and her family the same day. 'It's heartbreaking to hear about violent crime being committed against unhoused individuals,' said Verploegh. The City of Albuquerque's Department of Health, Housing, and Homelessness said they work in collaboration with Albuquerque police and Albuquerque Community Safety to address issues like this. They said their Gateway Shelter has been serving up to 660 people a night, more than they've seen in past years, crediting some of that to improvements at the facility. 'We've just done all kinds of things to create safety, so places where people can lock their belongings, we have cameras in the facility, we have security in the facility, we have lots of staff,' said Verploegh. The city is also pushing for more Safe Outdoor Spaces for those not wanting to stay at a shelter. 'I think sometimes violence can surround people that are unsheltered, sometimes it's something that's directed towards them, not created because of them,' said Verploegh. Athena Georgopoulos was five months pregnant at the time of the killings, per local outletsNEED TO KNOW A pregnant woman and her partner were found murdered inside their home in Melbourne, Australia on Monday, Aug. 11 Athena Georgopoulos, 39, was five months pregnant, while her partner Andrew Gunn, 50, was found decapitated A suspect was arrested at a nearby train station hours after police first responded to the homeGruesome new details are beginning to emerge about a pregnant Australian woman who was found dead inside her home late Monday night alongside her partner, whose body was maimed. Athena Georgopoulos and her partner Andrew Gunn were found brutally murdered inside their home in Melbourne, Australia on Monday, Aug. 11, according to and The Age. Georgopoulos, 39, was five months pregnant at the time of her killing, per the outlets. Gunn, 50, was reportedly found decapitated with his head on a spike inside the home, which was covered in graffiti. Local police are still investigating to determine if there's a connection with the couple's murders, reported. About four hours after police first responded to the couple's home, an unhoused 34-year-old man was arrested at a train station roughly four miles away with blood still on his shirt. The suspect was charged with two counts of murder, according to The Age. Police told members of the media gathered outside the home late Monday night that the murder suspect appeared to have been known to the couple — though authorities have not described the nature of their relationship. 'The message here is that it appears to be a targeted attack,' local homicide detective Dean Thomas said, according to The Age. 'Our suspect is known to the address.' The news outlets reported that a range of graffiti was found sprayed on the outside walls of the home, some of which were captured by overhead news cameras. 'Karma is not a menu' read one message. 'Meat is murder,' read another. Another spray painted message said, 'Enough is Enough,' while another reportedly read ''betrayal, unpredictable, inevitable,' according to 'Homicide Squad detectives will work to determine if the graffiti is relevant to the murder investigation,' a police spokesperson told the outlet. Georgopoulos' aunt Petty Dilveridis was reportedly spotted at the crime scene distraught and trying to get past police tape into her niece's home, according to the outlets. She was later seen crying and sitting on a curb outside. Dilveridis told The Herald Sun that Athena was excited about being pregnant and never thought she'd become a mother due to her age. 'She was so looking forward to having a baby, because she was 39 [and] she never thought she could have one,' the victim's aunt said. Read the original article on People
