‘Clair Obscur: Expedition 33' Too Hard? Here's The Maelle Nuke Build
Expedition 33 Sandfall
My current GOTY, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, has Acts and Epilogues that keep topping each other as you move through the story, ultimately culminating in endgame content that you really need to play, as it A) also has some key story things and B) is a lot of fun.
That fun, however, can have its limits as some of these bosses can get absurd to fight whether it's their one-hit damage or their giant health bars. But if you don't want to spend two hours memorizing a fight and hacking them down, the game has helpfully supplied a one-shot build that will take you through 99% of the biggest bosses in the game with ease. (Not going to get into endgame spoilers in this piece, but there is one thing you need to know about the early story).
Is it 'cheating'? Not technically but if you want to just find these story components or cool rewards, it's Maelle nuke time. This is not worth doing until after you can get past the 9999 damage cap at the end of the main story, fyi. But there is one key thing near the start of the game, so here's a very, very big warning:
Expedition 33 Sandfall
Medalum – This is the key to the entire thing. It's not impossible to do good damage without it, but you're crippling the entire concept. The reason being is that the sword starts you in Virtuose stance which is a massive damage increase for your first hit. The problem is you need to get this sword early or else it's going to be a giant pain later. In the Gestral village you will participate in a tournament where you pick a character and win with them alone. That character gets a unique weapon. That unique weapon for Maelle is Medalum. If you miss it, you can either reload a past save, if you have one, or you can beat the village chief, Golgra, with Maelle much later in the game. She is extremely hard, and I do not recommend this. (Ironically once you do get Medalum you can now one-shot farm Golgra for materials).
Stendhal – This is your one shot move, an eight energy giant blast of Void damage that will combine all your buffs for the tens of millions of damage you will get.
Stats – Give what Stendhal needs. I have 99 in Agility and Defense to increase A and S rank affinity. I have 72 in luck instead of Might for a 68% crit chance which is another 50% damage. That could easily be 100% if I did a few different main Pictos.
Expedition 33 Sandfall
Pictos – It doesn't super matter what your three main ones for stats are (I'd recommend any with crit or speed, but it's not mandatory), but the passives are important. You need essentially every damage buff you have that stack multiplicatively, many of which will apply to only your initial hit, hence the one-shotting. The current essentials list I have for my 50-70 million hits: Confident Fighter – 30% damage increase but can't be healed
– 30% damage increase but can't be healed Glass Canon – Deal 25% more damage but take 25% more damage
– Deal 25% more damage but take 25% more damage Immaculate – 30% damage increase until a hit is received.
– 30% damage increase until a hit is received. First Offensive – 50% damage increase for first hit given and received
– 50% damage increase for first hit given and received Full Strength – 25% increased damage on full health
– 25% increased damage on full health Augmented First Strike – 50% increased damage on the first hit, once per battle
– 50% increased damage on the first hit, once per battle Energizing Starts – You need enough of these to get up to the 8 power you need to do the move immediately. Sciel can help with this though.
– You need enough of these to get up to the 8 power you need to do the move immediately. Sciel can help with this though. First Strike – Play first, so a faster monster won't hit you first
I also have other things active that may be needed for different scenarios, multiple enemies for instance, Energy Master, Cheater and Second Chance. But if you keep playing after the big initial hit your damage is going to crash a good amount.
Phantom Strike – This isn't part of the main one-shot build but if you are facing multiple enemies you can use this as your first move instead of Stendhal to do huge damage or even full wipes.
Expedition 33 Sandfall
Sciel is a good boost for this build as well. You can make her have First Strike as well and she can buff Maelle before she goes. All Set – This gives Shell, Powerful and Rush immediately, Powerful being a boost for Maelle. With Energizing skills this will also max her AP easily.
– This gives Shell, Powerful and Rush immediately, Powerful being a boost for Maelle. With Energizing skills this will also max her AP easily. Intervention - If you need to keep going with your team with multiple enemies, this gives Maelle a turn immediately and AP to do her Stendhal if she doesn't have it.
I know there are ways to push way beyond by 70 million, but that's enough to one-shot any boss in the game, including its hardest one, and everything else from these 150 million to 4 billion damage variants are just for fun, and often require a ton more Pictos points you may not have. This will take you far. All the way, in fact.

Nintendo Switch 2 Reviews Won't Drop Before Launch — Here's Why
Mario is pictured at a Nintendo display ahead of the launch of the company's Switch 2 console, an ... More electronics store in the city of Nagoya, Aichi prefecture, Japan on June 2, 2025. Are you waiting impatiently for Nintendo Switch 2 reviews to start popping up? You'll need to be a little patient for those, as well as reviews of Mario Kart World and other Switch 2 launch games. In fact, you might have your very own Switch 2 in your hands before you're able to read a review of the console or its launch titles. The Nintendo Switch 2 will launch on June 5. However, Nintendo did not provide Switch 2 units to reviewers ahead of the release date. A company spokesperson told VGC this was because "important features and updates" will be unlocked via a system update that will only be available on launch day. That's despite reviewers being used to games and products getting new features and updates over time and accounting for that in their coverage. Many publishers now only grant reviewers access to review copies once their games are live, especially in cases of live-service games or when there are major day-one patches. But some publishers simply ask reviewers to bear in mind issues that will be resolved with day-one patches or updates that will be soon be available. (Certain companies also sometimes set review embargoes for a game's release date if they're pretty sure their product stinks, but I doubt that's the case for the Switch 2.) Nintendo Switch 2 Nintendo may also have valid technical reasons for not offering reviewers early access to Switch 2 units, as VGC rightfully points out. It could very well be that the company needed as much time as possible to make sure core features like GameChat are working optimally. Reviews are pretty important in the grand scheme of things. Before you spend $450 on a new product, you probably want to know if the thing you're buying works as advertised out of the box. That takes time for reviewers to fully assess. It's a process that requires days, not hours. Having sufficient time to properly analyze new features, and critical factors like battery life without relying on Nintendo's claims of how many hours you'll get on a single charge, is key. Reviews don't inherently exist to tell you what to buy or use your valuable time on. That's up to you. The whole idea of reviews is to help you make more informed decisions on how to spend your time and money. But that's going to be a tough needle for Switch 2 reviews to thread. Many reviewers will feel compelled to rush out coverage as quickly as possible after the Switch 2 launches to ensure they get enough attention from readers and viewers to make their efforts worthwhile. That's not ideal, for either reviewers or their audiences. Switch 2 review scores are unlikely to end up mattering much for Nintendo in any case. The Switch 2 is going to do huge numbers right out of the gate. Many, many people are already clamoring to get their hands on one as soon as possible – including me, for both professional and personal reasons. Lots of people aren't going to wait for reviews to snap up a Switch 2 especially not those who are already lining up for retailers to open on June 5 so they can pick up the console. It's likely that you already have a decent idea of whether you want a Switch 2 now, you're happy to wait until more first-party games and other exclusives are available for the device, or you don't feel the rush to get the console anytime soon. Still, having in-depth Switch 2 reviews available from trusted critics at launch would have been helpful for both consumers and media outlets (many of which are battling to keep the lights on and would have greatly benefited from pre-launch review traffic and views). It stinks for fans and reviewers alike that that won't be an option on launch day. Justin Bieber Slams Haters in Cryptic Post: ‘God Decides What We Deserve'
Justin Bieber is speaking his mind once again, sharing a cryptic post on Instagram slamming people who tell others what they 'should or shouldn't have.' In white text typed over a purple gradient Tuesday (June 3), the pop star began by writing that 'telling other humans they deserve something is like raising someone else's kids.' More from Billboard Justin Bieber Shows Off New Pics With Baby Jack: 'Gonna Be a Good Summer' Kneecap Announce Massive Wembley Arena Headline Show Drake & PARTYNEXTDOOR Announce '$ome $pecial $hows 4 U.K.' Tour Dates 'Who are you to tell someone what someone should or shouldn't have,' he continued. 'The audacity. That's not your place.' The 'Peaches' singer added, 'God decides what we deserve.' Billboard has reached out to his reps for comment. Bieber did not specify to whom he was referring in the post, but it does come at a particularly prosperous time for his family. A few days prior to his message, skincare mogul Hailey Bieber — whom the pop star married in 2018 — announced that she'd sold her Rhode company to e.l.f. Beauty for a reported $1 billion, something the musician celebrated by proudly sharing the news on his Instagram. Before that, the model — with whom Justin welcomed son Jack Blues in August — appeared on the cover of Vogue. In the accompanying profile, the 'Baby' vocalist said, 'I've done a lot of dumb things in my life, but the smartest thing I've ever done was marry Hailey.' The Grammy winner's post is just the latest cryptic statement he's made on Instagram in recent months. In February, he made headlines for posting about how it was 'time to grow up' on his Story, after which he penned musings in March about feeling like he was 'drowning' in 'hate' and struggling with feeling 'unworthy.' In April, Justin called out paparazzi in Los Angeles, sharing a video of cameramen following him out to his car, writing, 'This has to stop.' 'IM CURRENTLY ASKING [GOD] TO HELP ME WITH PATIENCE BECAUSE It CAN BE REALLY HARD TO NOT RIP THESE F–KIN GUYS HEADS OFF,' he also wrote at the time. 'Today I'm forgiving myself for my own selfishness, AND forgiving THOSE WHO SEEK TO USE AND ABUSE ME SIMPLY BECAUSE THEY WANT TO CAPITaLIze off of me, Or Their jealousy makes them want to make me feel small like how they feel.'
