Wes Anderson has revealed the trailer for his new film, The Phoenician Scheme.
Described as a dark tale of espionage, The Phoenician Scheme stars Benicio del Toro as Zsa-zsa Korda, an international businessman who is among the richest men in Europe. Mia Threapleton and Michael Cera co-star as Korda's daughter Sister Liesl and her tutor Bjorn Lund, respectively. As it is an Anderson affair, his regular collaborators round out the ensemble cast, including Bill Murray, Willem Dafoe, Benedict Cumberbatch, Scarlett Johannson, Bryan Cranston, Hope Davis, Tom Hanks, and Jeffrey Wright. Along with Cera, Riz Ahmed, Rupert Friend, and Charlotte Gainsbourg will make their first appearances in an Anderson film.
The Phoenician Scheme is set for a limited US release on May 30th and will expand further throughout the country on June 6th, via Focus Features. Anderson's most recent release was The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar, a short film starring Cumberbatch, in September 2023, later expanding to include three more shorts into an anthology film in 2024. Though Anderson's films have won Oscars in the past for Costume Design, Makeup and Hairstyling, and more, Henry Sugar won the director himself his first statuette in 2024 for Best Live Action Short Film.

'Thompson's willingness to take risks with her roles has meant that she has remained a vital force on stage and screen for four decades, a testament to the depth of affection multiple generations of fans hold for her,' the fest said in a statement. Thompson's most notable roles include 'Howards End' (1992); 'The Remains of the Day' (1993); 'Sense and Sensibility' (1996); 'Angels in America' (2003); the 'Harry Potter' series (2003-2011); 'Love Actually' (2003); 'Nanny McPhee' (2005); 'Saving Mr. Banks (2013); 'Years and Years' (2019); 'Cruella' (2021); 'Matilda the Musical' (2022); and, more recently, 'Good Luck to You, Leo Grande' (2022). The 'How to Train Your Dragon' director said the remake and original are almost identical because that's what Universal wanted
You'd expect the new " How to Train Your Dragon" live action remake to share some similarities with the original 2010 animation — but some fans and critics are not happy that they're almost identical shot-for-shot. Dean DeBlois, who co-directed the original and directed the live-action movie that is out Friday, told Business Insider that Universal Studios was clear from the beginning that it wanted the remake to tell the same story. Universal Studios jumped on the trend after Disney made over $8 billion from live-action remakes of its animations, according to data from Box Office Mojo. "How to Train Your Dragon" is arguably an unsurprising choice as one of the most successful animated movie franchises by Universal's animation branch, DreamWorks. All three movies were nominated for Oscars, and grossed $1.6 billion in total. DeBlois said Universal told him of the remake: "'We want that story but bring to it every embellishment you can. Let's go deeper into the mythology. "Let's deepen the characters, let's make it feel a little more mature. Let's lean into the action and make it more visceral and immersive." Universal didn't respond to a request for comment from Business Insider. DeBlois said he agreed to make what would be his first live-action movie because he didn't want someone else adapting his work. "If you're going to do it, I want to do it because I know where the heart is, and I know these characters, I know this world," he recalled telling Universal. Although he's not a fan of live action remakes of animated movies, DeBlois said, he wanted to "be in charge of this one so I can preserve its integrity and pay tribute to the fans." He added: "The intention was always 'let's do another version of it, but not the version that would replace the animated movie.'" Meanwhile, Disney has been criticized for making too many changes in their live-action remakes of " Snow White" and " Lilo & Stitch." DeBlois acknowledged there was no way to make all fans happy, regardless of the extent of the changes. "This version, I feel, keeps the best of what was there and adds to it in good and subtle, and significant ways," Deblois said.

When is 'The Phoenician Scheme' coming to streaming? Here's our best guess
Director Wes Anderson's latest movie is "The Phoenician Scheme," a dark comedy about wealthy international businessman Zsa-Zsa Korda (Benicio del Toro). Having narrowly dodged an assassination attempt, Korda appoints his daughter Liesl (Mia Threapleton) sole heir to his estate and embarks on a new enterprise, which puts them in the crosshairs of more dangerous foes. Anderson's summer movie is composed as precisely as ever, and was reasonably well-received by plenty of critics and moviegoers. At the time of writing, it's Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, with a 78% critics' rating and a slightly lower score (71%) from fans. In general, the consensus seems to be that "The Phoenician Scheme" is a typically stylish feature from the director, but it also isn't quite doing enough to stand alongside some of Anderson's absolute best movies. The movie first hit theaters at the end of May (with a nationwide release following one week later, on June 6), so we haven't gotten a confirmed streaming release date for "The Phoenician Scheme" just yet. Nevertheless, if you've decided not to see it in theaters and are waiting to watch it at home, here's our best guess at a potential "The Phoenician Scheme" streaming date. At the time of writing, the only way to watch "The Phoenician Scheme" is by seeing it in your local movie theater. Seeing as it only hit theaters at the end of May, that's probably going to be the only way to watch it for a little while yet, too. Plus, it won't come to streaming services straightaway, either; it'll first head to premium video-on-demand (PVOD) storefronts like Amazon. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. Nevertheless, since the movie was distributed in the U.S. by Focus Features (a Universal subsidiary), we can at least expect "The Phoenician Scheme" to make its streaming debut on Peacock. It's important to bear in mind that we don't yet have a confirmed "The Phoenician Scheme" streaming date. However, looking back at how long it's usually taken Focus Features' other releases to arrive on streaming, I'd wager "The Phoenician Scheme" could come to Peacock in mid to late July 2025. That's based on the fact that we typically wait between six to eight weeks for Focus Features films to start streaming. For example, "Black Bag" arrived on Peacock on May 2, seven weeks after it hit theaters, while survival thriller "Last Breath" came to the streamer on April 25, eight weeks after its February 28 theatrical debut. However, if "The Phoenician Scheme" instead follows the release pattern of the acclaimed comedy-drama "The Ballad of Wallis Island," we might have to wait a bit longer for a streaming date. Tom Basden's endearing watch just hit the streamer on June 6, 10 weeks after its limited theatrical release on March 28. As soon as we get an official update (or a confirmed streaming date for "The Phoenician Scheme"), we'll be sure to share it here, so keep checking back.
