Tech analyst Dan Ives: ‘Microsoft is clearly leading when it comes to.…'

Microsoft
is moving ahead of its rivals Amazon and Google in the cloud and hyperscaling sectors, according to Wedbush analyst Dan Ives. Speaking to The Street, Ives said Microsoft is "clearly leading when it comes to hyperscaling and cloud," with its Azure platform playing a key role. Citing strong momentum in artificial intelligence and cloud services, Ives raised his price target for Microsoft's stock to $600. He added that this figure could still be 'conservative.'
Growth in AI to reshape Microsoft's value: Dan Ives
Currently, only about 20% of Microsoft's business is linked to next-gen cloud and AI technologies. Ives expects this share to increase to 50–60% in the future, which he said could significantly change the company's overall value. While Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Google Cloud are still growing, Ives believes Microsoft's Azure has a clear advantage, helping it outperform its competitors in this space.
Microsoft slips to no. 2 as Nvidia becomes world's most valuable company
Microsoft was recently dethroned by chipmaker Nvidia that claimed top spot in global market value. Microsoft has a market value of $3.69 trillion, making it the second most valuable company globally, behind Nvidia which has a market cap of $3.77 trillion currently. The company's stock continues to hit record highs amid optimism over its AI and cloud strategy.
Apple is at third with a market value of about $3 trillion.
Nvidia's rise has been driven by its dominant position in providing chips used in AI systems, including those that power tools like ChatGPT. Its graphics processing units (GPUs) are a key component for training and running large language models.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has often emphasized the AI revolution. Speaking during the company's earnings report, Huang said 'The next industrial revolution has begun — companies and countries are partnering with Nvidia to shift the trillion-dollar traditional data centers to accelerated computing and build a new type of data center — AI factories — to produce a new commodity: artificial intelligence'.

Trump plans executive orders to power AI growth in race with China

The Trump administration is readying a package of executive actions aimed at boosting energy supply to power the US expansion of artificial intelligence, according to four sources familiar with the planning. Top economic rivals US and China are locked in a technological arms race and with it secure an economic and military edge. The huge amount of data processing behind AI requires a rapid increase in power supplies that are straining utilities and grids in many states. The moves under consideration include making it easier for power-generating projects to connect to the grid, and providing federal land on which to build the data centers needed to expand AI technology, according to the sources. The administration will also release an AI action plan and schedule public events to draw public attention to the efforts, according to the sources, who requested anonymity to discuss internal deliberations. The White House did not respond to requests for comment. Training large-scale AI models requires a huge amount of electricity, and the industry's growth is driving the first big increase in U.S. power demand in decades. Between 2024 and 2029, U.S. electricity demand is projected to grow at five times the rate predicted in 2022, according to power-sector consultancy Grid Strategies. Meanwhile, power demand from AI data centers could grow more than thirtyfold by 2035, according to a new report by consultancy Deloitte. Building and connecting new power generation to the grid, however, has been a major hurdle because such projects require extensive impact studies that can take years to complete, and existing transmission infrastructure is overwhelmed. Among the ideas under consideration by the administration is to identify more fully developed power projects and move them higher on the waiting list for connection, two of the sources said. Siting data centers has also been challenging because larger facilities require a lot of space and resources, and can face zoning obstacles or public opposition. The executive orders could provide a solution to that by offering land managed by the Defense Department or Interior Department to project developers, the sources said. The administration is also considering streamlining permitting for data centers by creating a nationwide Clean Water Act permit, rather than requiring companies to seek permits on a state-by-state basis, according to one of the sources. In January, Trump hosted top tech CEOs at the White House to highlight the Stargate Project, a multi-billion effort led by ChatGPT's creator OpenAI, SoftBank and Oracle to build data centers and create more than 100,000 jobs in the U.S. Trump has prioritized winning the AI race against China and declared on his first day in office a national energy emergency aimed at removing all regulatory obstacles to oil and gas drilling, coal and critical mineral mining, and building new gas and nuclear power plants to bring more energy capacity online. He also ordered his administration in January to produce an AI Action Plan that would make "America the world capital in artificial intelligence" and reduce regulatory barriers to its rapid expansion. That report, which includes input from the National Security Council, is due by July 23. The White House is considering making July 23 "AI Action Day" to draw attention to the report and demonstrate its commitment to expanding the industry, two of the sources said. Trump is scheduled to speak at an AI and energy event in Pennsylvania on July 15 hosted by Senator Dave McCormick. Amazon earlier this month announced it would invest $20 billion in data centers in two Pennsylvania counties. Elevate your knowledge and leadership skills at a cost cheaper than your daily tea. (Representational image: freepik) New Delhi: Nvidia, the American multinational IT company, has raced ahead of the tech giant Microsoft to become the most valuable company in the world after a rise in its share price. The stocks of the chipmaker company witnessed a rise of over 4%, taking its total market value to about $3.7 trillion. With Nvidia at the top, Microsoft is now the second-most valuable firm globally with a market value of $3.6 trillion. What turned the tides? Nvidia's shares climbed by 4% to close at $154.31 each on June 25. According to reports, this was made possible by the confidence of investor's that China's export restrictions would not derail Nvidia's dominant position in the field of artificial intelligence (AI). June 25 gains mark the second time this month that Nvidia has overtaken Microsoft in market cap. While Nvidia and Microsoft are at the first and second place respectively, Apple is at the third place with a market capitalisation of around $3 trillion. Interestingly, Microsoft happens to be one of Nvidia's major clients. Nvidia's CEO's optimism The rally came on the back of an upbeat commentary from the company's CEO Jensen Huang at the company's annual shareholder meeting. Huang assured investors that AI-related demand remains strong and emphasised that the computer industry is still in the early innings of a sweeping AI infrastructure transformation. He also added that other than AI, robotics is the company's biggest growth opportunity, reports Loop Capital's role Loop Capital has raised target price on Nvidia shares to $250 from $175 apiece while maintaining its 'buy' call on the stock. The brokerage attributed the bullish stance to the company's positioning of benefitting from a 'Golden Wave' of AI adoption, according to a report by Reuters. For the May–July period, the chipmaker is expecting another stellar quarter which might rake in a revenue of around $45 billion. Demand for AI Experts say that Nvidia's rise is very likely to be due to the GPU-based AI accelerators, which have become central to AI infrastructure across industries. Companies such as OpenAI, Microsoft, Meta, Google, Amazon, Oracle and Elon Musk's xAI are deploying Nvidia hardware for their generative AI and machine learning workloads, says Global market capitalisation rankings as of early June 2025 are as follows: Nvidia: $3.45 trillion Microsoft: $3.44 trillion Apple: Nearing $4 trillion (currently third due to daily share fluctuations) Alphabet (Google): $2.3 trillion Amazon: $2.3 trillion
