NTR Collector sanctions tricycle to physically challenged person in one hour

NTR district Collector G. Lakshmisha sanctioned a tricycle to a physically challenged person, Gadde Thambi, who came to the Collectorate, here on Monday. Mr. Lakshmisha, who was about to proceed to Tiruvuru, observed Thambi, crawling on the Collectorate premises.
'As both my legs are paralysed, I was unable to do any work. Please sanction a tricycle for me, Mr. Thambi told the Collector and showed his Aadhaar Card and Physically Handicapped certificate issued by the government.
Immediately, Mr. Lakshmisha directed the District Revenue Officer (DRO) Lakshmi Narasimha Reddy and Disabled Welfare Department Assistant Director Kamaraju to respond to the application submitted by Mr. Thambi in the Public Grievance Redressal System (PGRS).
The officers sanctioned the tricycle to Thambi in just an hour.

Minister for Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare Satya Kumar Yadav on Thursday said that the State government is aiming to increase the green cover in Andhra Pradesh from the current 29% to 50% by 2047 under the Swarnandhra 2047, through massive sapling plantation programmes. After planting saplings at Kotturu Tadepalli on the outskirts of Vijayawada on the occasion of World Environment Day, the Minister said that the government has launched a programme as part of which one crore saplings would be planted. Urging everyone to take part in the programme, the Minister said that a tree provides oxygen worth ₹10 lakh during its lifespan of 50-100 years. He said it is because of the ecological imbalance that the world is reporting natural calamities such as floods, earthquakes and etc. Later, NTR District Collector G. Lakshmisha said at the district level too efforts are being made, in coordination with the departments of Forest and Panchayati Raj, to increase the green cover from 11% to 33% by planting 2,60,000 saplings within a year on the premises of government offices, Anganwadis, on either side of the roads, among other places. Mylavaram MLA Vasantha Venkata Krishna Prasad also spoke on the occasion. In another event organised by the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) at Loyola College Road in the city, East constituency MLA Gadde Rammohan emphasised the need for reducing plastic usage to keep cities clean. He encouraged the public to shift to alternatives like cloth, jute, and paper bags. Municipal Commissioner H.M. Dhyanachandra said that the corporation has already developed 27 kilometers of avenue plantation in the city. As part of the Environment Day initiative, the corporation aims to plant 10,160 saplings within the next three months, extending the plantation stretch to 55 kilometers, he said. The Commissioner said 'Fabric In - Plastic Out' stalls have been set up at prominent locations such as Sri Kanaka Durga Temple, the flower market, Kaleswara Rao Market, VMC main office, Kedareswarapet fruit market, Sambamurthy Road Rythu Bazaar, and Patamata Rythu Bazaar. At these stalls, citizens are encouraged to exchange their plastic bags for eco-friendly alternatives like cloth bags.

Kochi: A Muvattupuzha resident lost over Rs 50 lakh in an online scam. According to the police, the victim came across an advertisement about online trading on social media and clicked on a link attached with it. He subsequently deposited Rs 52.85 lakh into various accounts. However, the accused then ended all contact with him. The victim approached police soon after. Two held for taking bribe: Vigilance and anti-corruption bureau (VACB) on Monday arrested a village field assistant and a retired village assistant for taking a bribe for allotting a title deed (patta). Police identified the arrested persons as Thambi, retired village assistant of Chowara, and Navas, a village field assistant. According to VACB, the complainant, a Kakkanad native, submitted an application before the Chowara village office to obtain a title deed for his 1.24-acre land. Subsequently, Thambi and Navas inspected his property on April 24. They then demanded Rs 10,000 as a bribe. The complainant then told the officials that he did not have that much money with him and they returned. When the application was not processed, the complainant contacted the officials and they repeated the demand for a bribe. However, Thambi had retired from service by then and the complainant was unaware of this when he called to enquire about the issue. He then approached Ernakulam vigilance DSP with a complaint. The accused were presented in court and remanded in judicial custody. Odisha native held with ganja: A migrant worker was caught with 2kg of ganja on Tuesday. Police identified the arrested person as Rajesh Deegal, 23, a native of Ganjam, Odisha. He was captured while attempting to hand over the ganja near the Perumbavoor bus stand after arriving in Aluva by train from Odisha. The ganja, purchased for Rs 3,000 from Odisha, was being sold here for Rs 20,000, police said.
