UNC to open 2026 football season across the pond
The 2025 UNC football season can't come soon enough, with the Bill Belichick era officially kicking off Monday, Sept. 1 as TCU comes to Kenan Stadium for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
The Horned Frogs, who finished 2024 with a 9-4 record and domination of Louisiana in the New Mexico Bowl, are a great, early-season test to see how legitimate Belichick's Tar Heels are. We aren't expecting North Carolina to be a College Football Playoff contender in Year One, but an improvement from Mack Brown's teams.

UNC will also play TCU in 2026 – but instead of Forth Worth, the Tar Heels and Horned Frogs are heading across the pond.
On Tuesday, North Carolina announced it will face TCU in the 2026 Aer Lingus Classic. According to FBschedules.com's Kevin Kelley, this game will be played on August 29, 2026. The Horned Frogs were initially scheduled to host UNC on September 5.
2026 will mark the second time in three seasons an ACC team plays in Ireland, with 2024's edition featuring Georgia Tech upsetting then-No. 10 Florida State. The 2025 Aer Lingus classic features Iowa State and Kansas State, while the 2027 edition will showcase Pitt and Wisconsin.

There's still plenty of uncertainty with the Tar Heels' 2025 roster, but they at least have their starting quarterback in South Alabama transfer Gio Lopez. North Carolina will also carry initial 2024 starter Max Johnson and incoming, 4-star freshman Bryce Baker in its QB room.
There's just over four months until UNC plays football – are you ready?

Notre Dame football will visit Arkansas with a noon kickoff time on September 27th
Notre Dame football will visit Arkansas with a noon kickoff time on September 27th As the college football season is quickly approaching, Notre Dame football is starting to find out more about its 2025 schedule. On Wednesday, the second road game of the year's start time was announced, a contest at Arkansas, an SEC team that occasionally has solid seasons. However, it hasn't been since 2021 since they had a top-3 conference finish, after going 4-8 last year. The battle between Notre Dame and Arkansas will be played on Sept. 27th., with the kickoff set for 12:00 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast on ABC, as the Irish will look to take out yet another SEC team after defeating Georgia last year in the College Football Playoff and Texas A&M, who is the home opener opponent this year, in the season opener of 2024. This will be the first matchup between the two teams in their history, and we'll see if Notre Dame can once again go into SEC territory and return home with a victory.

ESPN's future power rankings spotlight Michigan football potential with QB Bryce Underwood
ESPN's future power rankings spotlight Michigan football potential with QB Bryce Underwood Every year, ESPN attempts to look into its college football crystal ball to predict what the top teams in the sport will look like, not only this upcoming season, but in the future beyond that. With its future power rankings, ESPN predicts what teams will dominate the sport years down the road. Though the Wolverines were No. 5 last year, they've fallen -- albeit not too far -- in Adam Rittenberg's latest. In the current 12-team College Football Playoff era, Michigan comes in at No. 13, though Rittenberg notes that the future looks bright in Ann Arbor. 13. Michigan Wolverines Previous future power ranking: 5 Returning quarterback: No (thankfully?). Michigan needed a reset at quarterback after a dreadful passing season, and will turn to No. 1 overall recruit Bryce Underwood or Fresno State transfer Mikey Keene this season. (...) Roster management: Coach Sherrone Moore is starting to flex some recruiting muscle, as Michigan finished with ESPN's No. 7 class for 2025, boosted by Underwood. Michigan has been smart and selective in the portal, and its additions along both lines and at running back with Alabama transfer Justice Haynes will impact the upcoming season. Star power: There are massive expectations around Underwood, and his development the next two seasons will shape Michigan's overall outlook. The Wolverines return one of the nation's best kickers in Dominic Zvada, and defenders like end Derrick Moore and cornerback Zeke Berry should contend for All-Big Ten honors. Coaching staff: Moore has settled in after much of the staff followed predecessor Jim Harbaugh to the Los Angeles Chargers. He will be judged largely on the success of offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey, who had no previous ties to Moore or Michigan. The team retained defensive coordinator Wink Martindale for a second season. There's more at ESPN about the roster, particularly along the offensive and defensive lines. Of course, Michigan is behind several Big Ten teams that outperfomed the Wolverines last season -- Ohio State is No. 2, Oregon is No. 4, and Penn State is No. 6. Will the rankings swing back in Michigan's favor should the Wolverines round back into form? Given the wild swing year-over-year, it sure seems like it.

Teen phenom ElliReese Niday competing for Team USA at American Cup meet at Mylan Park
MORGANTOWN — A portion of the world's top divers will be on display in Morgantown, competing in the USA Diving American Cup, held at the Peak Health Aquatic Center at Mylan Park. One already has Olympic aspirations even though she's still three years shy of getting her driver's license. ElliReese Niday, 13, made headlines last month in Alabama by becoming one of the youngest national champions in history when she won the women's 10-meter title at the USA Diving Championships. 'It's really crazy,' Niday said, according to USA Diving. 'Maybe one day when I grow up, I'll make the Olympic team possibly.' Niday, from Moultrie, Ga., is the daughter of former Tennessee standout Lauryn McCalley Niday, who won national titles in 2000 and 2001 on the 3-meter springboard. The younger Niday has quickly made her own name in the sport, winning three gold medals at the 2023 Junior Pan American Championships, as well as being a seven-time junior national champion. The four-day event begins at 10 a.m. Thursday with preliminary rounds in the men's 3-meter and the women's 10-meter. Niday is scheduled to begin 10-meter preliminaries at 11:45 a.m. on Thursday. Along with members of Team USA, divers from Japan, Australia, Canada and Korea will be competing in the international event. More preliminary rounds are scheduled for Friday, with finals in individual and synchronized events beginning Saturday and concluding Sunday. 'This is an incredible opportunity for our community to witness Olympic-caliber diving right here in Morgantown,' said Jennifer Lainhart, Director of Aquatics and Track at Mylan Park. 'Hosting athletes from around the world not only showcases the capability of our facility, but it brings global excitement to our region.' Other headliners competing for Team USA in Morgantown include former TCU standout Anna Kwong, who won the 1-meter title at the USA Diving Championships. She'll be competing in the 3-meter individuals, along with Sophie Verzyl, who finished fifth in the event at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Trials. The combo will also be competing together in the synchronized 3-meter competition. On the men's side, Carson Tyler took fourth in the 2024 Olympics in the 3-meters and will be competing in that event in Morgantown. Indiana's Josh Hedberg was once the top-ranked high school diver in the country and he won the 10-meter title last month at the USA Diving Championships. Hedberg will be competing in the 10-meters this weekend and will double up with Tyler in the synchronized 10-meter competition. 'The American Cup is a tremendous opportunity for divers from around the world to represent their countries and compete on an international stage,' said Lee Michaud, President of USA Diving. 'We're thrilled to welcome everyone to Morgantown and to once again experience the world-class facilities and incredible hospitality that Visit Mountaineer Country and the Peak Health Aquatic Center provide.'
