Carlisle United end 'hard' pre-season with victory in Chester

CARLISLE United first-team coach Gav Skelton has reflected on a 'hard' pre-season for the Blues. The Blues ended their 2025/26 pre-season campaign with a 2-0 victory against Calum McIntyre's Chester at the Deva Stadium. Elliot Embleton's penalty and an own goal from Chester's Tom Leak sealed the result for the Blues who were supported by over 300 travelling Cumbrians. After the fixture, Carlisle United's first team coach Gav Skelton reflected on the 'positive result'. Speaking to the News & Star, he said: "It's a positive result although it is pre-season. "It breeds confidence and its not just 2-0, I thought we were convincing, I don't think we have been troubled too many times which shows a good resilience right through the team defensively, out from the keeper, the back four, and the whole team. "Ultimately you have got to score goals and we have done that by scoring two goals and have won 2-0 quit comfortably I think." Skelton also piled the praise on Carlisle United forward Regan Linney after his performance against the Seals. A performance which saw him test Chester goalkeeper Lewys Benjamin on several occasions as well as winning the Blues spot kick with some slick footwork and delivering the cross which was deflected by an opposition defender into his own goal. He said: "He is a threat, other teams were looking at him and we are lucky enough to have him. "He has done it in pre-season, now can he go and continue his form from last season at Altrincham into the real stuff for us. "He has been pleasing and promising and he will be going in confident and adapted to the group, so it has been a really promising pre-season, as it has been for a number of them. Carlisle United's attentions will now turn to their first National League when they travel to Woking on Saturday, August 9. However, ahead of stepping up preparation for this first fixture, Skelton reflected on the club's pre-season campaign. He said: "It has been a hard pre-season and I think you would hear that from the players as well. "You get a bit of a reward when you get good results in pre-season and hopefully it builds a bit of confidence and belief, not just amongst he players but throughout the whole club and supporters which we need to take into the season.

Terry McLaurin Receiving Trade Interest From Notable AFC Team

Terry McLaurin Receiving Trade Interest From Notable AFC Team originally appeared on The Spun. As the Washington Commanders continue to navigate the situation surrounding Pro Bowl wideout Terry McLaurin, an AFC contender has formally inquired about the veteran receiver's services, according to reports. McLaurin officially requested a trade from the team on Thursday after the two sides failed to make any progress this offseason towards a contract extension that would him one of the highest-paid at his position in the league. McLaurin is entering the final season of a three-year deal that's set to pay him $15.5 million with just $2.8 million in guaranteed dollars. Since then, Washington's star has been "holding in" at Commanders training camp in hopes reaching a new agreement. But five-time 1,000-yard receivers don't just hit the market every day and a team in the rival conference would reportedly like to add him to their roster. Per DK Pittsburgh Sports, the Pittsburgh Steelers have reached out to Washington's franchise about a trade for the 29-year-old star. However, sources say they're not expected to land the former Ohio State product. Writes Steelers beat writer Chris Halicke: "He informed the team this week that he wants to be traded, prompting Omar Khan to reach out." "In reaching out to the Commanders, the Steelers learned that McLaurin not only wants to be paid like a true No. 1 receiver, which is expected, he wants to be a true No. 1 receiver on whatever team he plays on in 2025 and beyond. With the Steelers having DK Metcalf signed to a five-year, $150 million contract, they've committed to him as their No. 1 receiver." Pittsburgh has been hyper-aggressive this summer compared to seasons past, but in many ways it feels like they're just trying to make up for lost time. As exciting as it would be to see another wide receiver in the No. 17 a la Mike Wallace, it isn't sounding too realistic at the moment. Although this clearly won't be the only phone call the Steelers and others make regarding Scary McLaurin Receiving Trade Interest From Notable AFC Team first appeared on The Spun on Aug 2, 2025 This story was originally reported by The Spun on Aug 2, 2025, where it first appeared.

Report – Inter Milan Determined To Avoid Koopmeiners-Like Soap Opera Amid Intense Talks With Atalanta Over Nigeria Forward

Inter Milan will not let Atalanta drag them into drawn-out negotiations over the transfer of Ademola Lookman. According to La Repubblica via FCInterNews, the Nerazzurri are doing everything to prevent another 'Teun Koopmeiners' scenario. La Dea made Juventus sweat over the Dutchman last summer, forcing them to wait until late August before signing the deal. Furthermore, it took extra effort from Koopmeiners to force his exit. Indeed, he refused to play in the UEFA Super Cup final. However, Inter look determined to avoid such complications and want to finalize the deal swiftly. (Photo by) Ademola Lookman is keen to join Inter, and the club has already made a tangible offer to convince Atalanta to sell. Indeed, the Nerazzurri tabled a €45 million bid yesterday, hoping it would help them seal the deal. However, Atalanta's response has yet to arrive. Instead, Ivan Juric's men appear to be playing hardball once again. Unlike last summer, Inter will do everything to stop them in their tracks. Therefore, there's an expiration date in their latest proposal.
