West Midlands fans celebrate 'nerve-wracking' Lionesses victory
Mr Morris and his family have been following the Lionesses around Switzerland in a camper-van and he said it was unbelievable to see them get so far."I thought we'd see the group games, as usually England would probably get knocked out in the quarter-finals, and then we'd do some travelling around Europe," he said.Although the van is due back in Hereford on Thursday, he is intending to leave his family in Switzerland and dash back in his car to rejoin them."We've had a great couple of weeks and I don't think we can miss the final now," he said.
Birmingham City Women Supporters Group member Mr Ross had not planned to stay on either, so will try to catch the final on TV on a cruise ship off the coast of Norway.His time in Switzerland had been "so much fun but very tiring", he said."We've been lucky to get where we are. The last couple of games haven't been brilliant but we've pulled through," he added.
Watching from home, goalkeeper Hannah Hampton's former PE teacher Emma Heighway described the dramatic match as "another nerve-wracker"."Knowing Hannah, she kept herself really calm," she said. The Birmingham-born 24-year-old went to Erasmus Darwin Academy in Burntwood, Staffordshire, after growing up in Studley, Warwickshire."Her distribution is always really great in the game and she provided a lot of long balls and throws to be able to kickstart the game from the back, so I'm really proud of her."Former Birmingham City captain Kerys Harrop, who has played with Hampton, said the match was again won by the team's super subs, who have been instrumental in the squad's progress."[I'm] just buzzing for Michelle Agyemang and Chloe Kelly because they obviously want to start the games but [they're] coming on and having just as much of an important impact," she said.
Elsewhere groups of friends and colleagues gathered to watch the game while a big screen was put up to screen the game in Telford's Town Park.Telford & Wrekin Council cabinet member Angela McClements said fans were "really appreciative". She added: "It's a sense of community spirit and people coming together, and everyone loves football, don't they?"Rugby Borough Women took time out of their pre-season training to watch the Lionesses seal the deal at the Phoenix pub in Coventry."The whole team believed that it could be done," said assistant manager Sian Osmond, who admitted to nursing a few doubts as the second half wore on."The squad that they have and the way Sarina [Wiegman]'s utilised the whole group has been fantastic...it's a bit of a masterclass from a management perspective."

Dolphins OL Andrew Meyer to miss 'weeks' with injury
August 6 - Miami Dolphins backup offensive lineman Andrew Meyer will be sidelined for "weeks," coach Mike McDaniel said Wednesday. The nature of Meyer's injury was not disclosed. Meyer is listed as the backup center on the depth chart the team released Wednesday. "He's had a great camp, really stepped his game, and I'm very impressed with his play," McDaniel told reporters. "He will be out weeks, but he's built a strong foundation as one of the top performers if you want to talk about growth of game. One of the top guys from year one to year two that has made tremendous strides." The Dolphins signed Meyer as an undrafted free agent in 2024 after a standout college career at UTEP. KAI ROONEY has received a last-minute call-up to Manchester United's Under-19 squad for a prestigious tournament in Croatia. The 15-year-old forward impressed during the Under-16's run to the final of the youth Super Cup NI - more commonly known to fans as the Milk Cup. 6 6 6 Kai, who can operate both on the wing and as a No9 like his dad Wayne, scored and assisted in United's opening game in Northern Ireland. He played a starring role as United went undefeated in their group before losing 1-0 to Southampton Under-16s in Sunday's final at the Coleraine Showgrounds. Wayne and Coleen were in the crowd as Saints wonderkid Jude Daniels stole the glory before whipping out Wazza's famous knockout celebration. But despite being on summer break from school, Kai has been invited to compete in an international tournament against opponents three years his senior. The teen has travelled with United's Under-19 squad to face Europe's finest academy sides in the Mladen Ramljak Tournament in Croatia. And buzzing Kai shared a picture from his digs featuring a swimming pool with a scenic city view, captioning the Instagram story: "19s tournament soon." The young Red Devils have been placed in Group A with Juventus, Rapid Bucuresti and Dinamo Zagreb. Their first game is against Romanian side Rapid on Thursday. United have told SunSport that several other players across the Under-15s and 16s will feature too. Meanwhile, the academy sides of Paris Saint-Germain, Benfica, Bologna and Shakhtar Donetsk make up Group B. Gabriel, signed by Nike at the age of 11, became the youngest player to feature for the Under-18s in April after making his debut against Leeds United, scoring twice after coming on as a substitute. The centre forward turns 15 in October so will be eligible to play in the Prem, with Arsenal rival starlet Max Dowman also in line with a shout. Both Gabriel and Dowman are in with a chance of becoming the youngest player to ever grace the top-flight. ‘Had to be a big boy' – Frank Lampard says he has no intention of swapping Coventry for TV studio despite play-off blow
FRANK LAMPARD accepts he is a glutton for punishment. One of the Premier League's greatest ever stars has had to deal with more than his fair share of 'hurt' as a boss having been brutally sacked by both Chelsea and Everton. 2 2 That followed his experience of suffering Wembley play-off final heartache when he was cutting his managerial teeth in charge of Derby. And if that wasn't enough to put him off the managerial lark, he watched on helplessly as Coventry were cruelly defeated in the play-off semi at Sunderland last May. But, no matter, the Coventry boss says he has no intention of swapping cold, wet Tuesday nights in Stoke for the comfort of the TV studio like fellow Prem icons. And nor does Lamps have any plans to work on his handicap on the golf course rather than patrolling the training ground like other ex-pros. But, instead, he's relishing the challenge of leading the Sky Blues from the depths of despair to another tilt at Prem promotion. Lampard had to fight back the tears when Cov were dramatically denied a place in the Championship play-off final by Dan Ballard's dramatic last-gasp winner on Wearside in May. The cruel finale meant there was no fairytale ending for the Sky Blues who were 17th when Lampard took charge following Mark Robins' sacking. But, in an exclusive SunSport interview, Lampard, 47, has admitted he can't wait to give it another go. I love being on the training pitch. I love working with people. 'Everyone has their choices and I've made my choice and this is a challenging career but there's also a lot of pluses to it. 'I've pitted my wits against elite managers in the Champions League, managed at Chelsea, at Everton and at Derby and every single experience is valuable.' And, win or lose, there seems little chance that Chelsea legend Lampard, who won 11 major trophies in 13 years at Stamford Bridge, will not see things in perspective. But surely he found it difficult to pick himself up after what happened at the Stadium of Light? 'Yes and no,' says Lampard with a smile. 'If you ask my wife, she'll say yes, but if you ask me, I've been there before. 'I've had what I think you can describe as a really good playing career and managerial career. 'But within that, there's ups and downs all the time and that comes with the football territory. 'There are some things you can't quite control – like the Sunderland game in the end. 'But I've got a bit more balance about things like that at the moment even though they really hurt at the time. 'I had to be a big boy and make sure it didn't ruin my summer and it helps that I've developed a good work-life balance. 'I've got children who are all happy and healthy, so you just keep plugging away, sticking at it, giving it your best shot.' And that will mean turning pain into gain at the CBS Arena after the agonising near-miss. 'It was turning into a special story - we were one step away from Wembley and playing really well, particularly in those playoff games,' he added. 'It ultimately came down to small details - chances you don't convert and a header that comes off a shoulder and goes in. 'There was deep disappointment but you get over that because it's football and you have no choice but to start again. 'I spoke to lot of people over the summer. I met Coventry fans and neutrals and they all told me how well we'd done. 'That made me feel proud but my job is to understand that the hard work starts again.' Lampard added: 'We'd made all these strides and then when you miss out, you feel as manager of a club that you have a big responsibility in it. 'I still had a relatively good summer because I was with my family and had a break. 'But there were things, I was thinking all the time. I'm just thinking how can we do better and how can we try and start the season better. 'I can't wait to get back to the competitive games. I'm raring to go.'
