Pakistan, Iran aim to raise bilateral trade to $10 bn
dpa Islamabad Pakistan and Iran on Sunday signed agreements pledging to raise bilateral trade to $10 billion and committed to work more closely to eliminate the menace of terrorism in favour of peace and prosperity in the region. Agreements across various sectors, including energy and trade, were signed during the two-day visit of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. 'We have set a target of $10 billion in trade and hope to achieve it as soon as possible,' Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said. Addressing a joint press briefing Sharif reiterated Pakistan's stance of supporting Iran's right to a nuclear programme for peaceful purposes under the UN charter and condemned Israel's aggression against Iran saying there was 'no justification.' He said the two countries would take effective steps to eliminate terrorism and open the avenues of prosperity in the region. The Iranian president said he thinks reaching the $10 billion trade mark - which would represent a more than three-fold increase in trade - is doable. 'My deep belief is that we can easily, in a short time, increase the volume of our trade relations from the current $3 billion to the projected goal of $10 billion,' Pezeshkian said. He thanked the government and people supporting Iran 'during the 12-day terrorist aggression by the Zionist regime and the United States.'

At least 92 killed in Israeli attacks across Gaza
Agencies Gaza At least 92 people, including 56 who were waiting for aid, were killed in shelling by Israeli occupation forces in multiple areas across the Gaza Strip since Sunday dawn. Six more Palestinians have died of forced starvation and malnutrition in besieged Gaza, the Health Ministry said. The sources further added that the toll spiked after rescue crews pulled out the bodies of five Palestinians from under the rubble, following an Israeli bombardment of Shujaiya neighbourhood in the eastern part of Gaza City. The all-out Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip has continued unabated since October 2023, despite the UN and global condemnations, leaving 209,000-plus martyrs and wounded, most of them women and children, along with 11,000-plus missing people, as well as hundreds of thousands of displaced people and a famine that perished the souls of many Palestinians. Israel's war on Gaza has killed at least 60,839 people and wounded 149,588. An estimated 1,139 people were killed in Israel during the October 7, 2023 attacks and more than 200 were taken captive. In the devastated streets of Gaza, even a bag of flour can cost a life. Hamza Jouda says he is standing in line for aid in Gaza's Morag area. 'I'm waiting for the flour sacks to arrive. But we've just been told there was no flour left and to go back home. So, we had no choice but to turn back. 'It's criminal. It's deadly. It's a matter of life and death. The situation is extremely dangerous. There are tanks. There's constant gunfire.' Nidal Qawasami travelled from Shati refugee camp. 'I came here to get some aid and find a bit of food because everything in the market is extremely expensive, unaffordable,' he said as quoted by Al Jazeera. Hunger has pushed families to the edge. 'The process should be fair: whether Israeli, Arabs, or Palestinians, everyone should just show their ID and receive aid based on that,' Qawasami said.'Instead, people are just rushing in. Some take huge amounts while others starve to death. That's a crime.'

Five countries complete 90 aid airdrops over Gaza
France, Germany, Jordan, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates have dropped another 90 aid packages over Gaza from aircraft after coordinating with the Israeli military. As the UN and international aid organisations continue to be sidelined from delivering aid to Palestinians by Israel, the Israeli army claimed in a short statement that the air drops are part of its 'series of actions to improve the humanitarian response in the Gaza Strip'. The UN, major international humanitarian NGOs and Palestinians themselves say that aid airdrops are ineffective, dangerous and humiliating for starving people. Several people have been injured by aid parcels falling from the sky already since this new round of airdrops began, and, earlier this week, we brought you testimony from a Palestinian journalist who said that people were forced to pick through rice mixed with sand after it was airdropped on the ground.
