Time of India2 days ago
Bengaluru: Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) is examining the feasibility of extending the Yellow Line up to Attibele, a stretch of over 10km, deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar said Tuesday.
The newly opened Yellow Line from RV Road to Bommasandra carries around 90,000 passengers every day.
Replying to a query from Congress MLA B Shivanna in the assembly, Shivakumar said the extension is essential to ease traffic congestion on the busy Hosur Road corridor.

"For the last two years, Shivanna has been pursuing me on this matter. As per his demand, the Metro line needs to be extended for another 10-12 km. Also, the govt recently decided to build a stadium with a capacity of 90,000 spectators in his constituency. Therefore, the Metro should be taken to that point," he said.
The DCM said officials were instructed to prepare a feasibility report on extending the Metro line via Jigani and Bannerghatta. Hyderabad-based RV Associates have been entrusted with preparing the feasibility study.

Junior Bankers Win Up to 30% Pay Hikes in Hong Kong Deals Boom

(Bloomberg) -- Citic Securities Ltd. and other Chinese brokers are raising pay levels again for junior bankers in Hong Kong to boost retention and handle a jump in dealmaking, according to people familiar with the moves. China's biggest broker is raising pay at its Hong Kong CLSA unit, giving 15% to 30% bumps to about HK$75,000 ($9,600) to HK$80,000 a month to select junior associates, the people said, asking not to be identified because they aren't authorized to discuss compensation. The raises don't apply across the board, one of the people said. Pay is now back at 2022 levels, but still below what first- to third-year associates earned in 2021, when deal activity hit multi-decade highs, one of the people said. China Merchants Bank Co.'s Hong Kong arm, CMB International, has also lifted pay to similar levels for juniors, while a number of other firms are considering raises to follow suit amid rising competition for talent, according to people familiar with the matter. The increases and planned bumps mark a stark turnaround after pay was lowered over the past few years and bonuses and perks were gutted, especially on the mainland, amid a political shift to rein in private enterprise. Bankers in particular were singled out by the ruling Communist Party as leading 'hedonistic' lifestyles, leading firms to also take a cautious approach in Hong Kong. Now dealmaking is flourishing in Hong Kong, mainly driven by the listing of mainland Chinese companies, triggering moves between brokers and demand for bankers. Stock markets are also staging a comeback on the Chinese mainland, even as the property market remains in crisis and the economy has struggled to revive. A Hong Kong-based spokeswoman at Citic declined to comment. CMBI wasn't immediately able to comment. Since late 2022, investment banks and brokerages have made multiple rounds of staff cuts as dealmaking dried up, China's economy faltered on deflation and property woes, and Beijing tightened oversight of the private sector. That has turned around over the past 12 months. Hong Kong saw a net increase of some 1,200 licensed financial professionals, driving the total number to almost 42,500 by the end of June, according to Securities and Futures Commission data compiled by Bloomberg. Citic Securities (Hong Kong), along with CLSA, led the growth in licensed financiers versus a year ago with about 300 additions. CMBI and Huatai Financial Holdings (Hong Kong) Ltd. also added about 70 individuals each, according to SFC data. --With assistance from Jinshan Hong. More stories like this are available on

Thane city to soon see launch of pod taxi project: Minister

1 2 Thane: Transport minister Pratap Sarnaik on Wednesday announced plans to lau-nch the pod taxi project in Thane city, describing it as an environmentally friendly and economical transportation system that would complement the Metro network. Speaking at a development review meeting at the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) auditorium, Sarnaik said the groundbreaking ceremony for the project would be conducted after completing legal formalities. The proposed pod taxi network will span 52km with an estimated 63 stations. The fare structure has been kept affordable at Rs 30 per person per stage. "Legal approvals for passenger safety, financial viability assessment, and other formalities need to be completed before launching the project on PPP basis," Sarnaik said. "Such announcements seem to be mere eyewash," said an activist, pointing out that Thane city is still grappling with basic infrastructure issues like poor roads, flooding, water issues, and traffic chaos. "These kinds of promises are usually made only before elections," the activist added. Another resident questioned, "Where will they accommodate the pod taxis when we have Metro and Ring Rail coming up?" During the review meeting with TMC commissioner Saurabh Rao and other officials, Sarnaik also announced a ban on heavy commercial vehicles on Ghodbunder Road from 6am to midnight to reduce traffic congestion on the busy arterial route, and suggested diverting cargo traffic through the Bhiwandi route. He also recommended maximising tree plantation while developing the Nanglabunder creek area to expa-nd Thane's forest cover, and setting up a rehabilitation centre for stray dogs outside the city limits. The minister said that development works worth Rs 1,800 crore were sanctioned for TMC under the guidance of deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde, who was chief minister when the funds were approved. "Most of these development projects are progressing well, and Shinde expressed his intention to inaugurate the majority of works by Oct 15," Sarnaik said. He directed the officials and staff to work round the clock to complete the remaining projects. Sarnaik also instructed that service roads along Ghodbunder Road be linked with the main carriageway by Dec 31, by cement concretising the open spaces in the middle of the road. The minister also announced that Thane's third theatre would be constructed in the Ghodbunder area. Thane already houses Gadkari Rangayatan and Dr Kashinath Ghanekar auditoriums. At the review meeting, Sarnaik also assessed the progress of several ongoing projects, including the mangrove park at Mogharwada, beautification of the lake at Kasarwadavli, renovation of old gardens, and scientific revival of wells in Thane city.
