Chandigarh police's Samavesh programme disposes of 7,386 plaints in 2 years
Under the scheme, the police received 9,920 complaints under various categories from October 1, 2023 till June 30, 2025 and disposed of 7,386 of the same.
Samavesh, which in its operational term means policing along with the community, was launched in October 2023 with an aim to reduce trust deficit, dignity deficit and spatial disconnect among citizens and the police.
A total of 1.2 lakh residents of Chandigarh have attended 2,478 awareness programmes organised by the police in this time period. These awareness programmes ranged from drug awareness, gender sensitisation, harassment of women at public and workplaces, awareness about various welfare schemes of the government and also meetings with Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs).
A total of 215 missing mobile phones were recovered by Samavesh staff and the same were handed over to their applicants/users. In this period, as many as 13,581 senior citizens' visits were made on a daily basis by Samavesh staff deputed in various police stations.
The Samavesh staff in the presence of concerned station house officers (SHOs) conducted 324 meetings with the members of resident welfare and market welfare associations. These meetings are organised on a monthly basis to hear and resolve their issues.
A special drive regarding tenant and servant verification was conducted in 2024 and a total of 2,679 tenants/servants were verified under this drive. Tenants/servants verification drive/camp is still ongoing starting from July 15 till July 20.
As per the programme, one sub-inspector rank officer of the police department is engaged at each Samavesh Kendras to provide services and remains available for 12 hours at the centre. The in-charge of Samavesh Kendra works in consultation with the Police Station Level Committee.
Samavesh Kendras provide the facility of e-FIR registration, complaint registration, character verification, employee verification, tenant verification, servant verification, lost article report, locked house registration, passport verification, know the status of complaints/case service.
UT SSP Kanwardeep Kaur said the scheme has enhanced the efficiency of police and has been very successful in building police community partnership. 'The staff dedicated for the programme have been ensuring speedy redressal,' she added.

'They were shown the bodies, and they said 'these are the men involved in the Pahalgam attack',' Shah said. 'We were not convince by that alone. We had already carried out forensic tests of the bullet shells found at the attack spot. We took the guns seized from the terrorists killed in Operation Mahadev to the lab in Chandigarh overnight, where the ammunition matched. That confirmed their identities even further, and we were convinced,' he told the House. He said Operation Mahadev had begun 'the night of the attack', referring to the Pahalgam incident. On Monday, the encounter with terrorists began around 11 am when a joint team of the army, paramilitary and police detected terrorist activity in the Mulnar area of Harwan. Acting swiftly, the forces engaged the terrorists in an intense firefight, resulting in the deaths of the three heavily armed terrorists in the forested Lidwas area near Harwan, on the outskirts of Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir.

NIA to examine three terrorists' bodies for clues on Pahalgam terror attack
A National Investigation Agency (NIA) team will examine the bodies of three Pakistani terrorists killed in Operation Mahadev in Dachigam on Monday as well as the electronic devices and weapons recovered from them before the burial, people familiar with the development said on Tuesday. The bodies of three 'foreign terrorists' have already been sent on Monday night to a mortuary in Srinagar. (HT file photo) The federal agency is investigating the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and it is suspected that Suleiman Shah, a former Pakistan army commando killed on Monday, was one of the shooters. An officer who didn't want to be named said the bodies of three 'foreign terrorists' have already been sent on Monday night to a mortuary in Srinagar, 'where a NIA team along with forensic experts will examine them'. 'Their electronic devices will also be sent for analysis while the weapons will be tested by ballistics for matching with cartridge cases recovered at the Pahalgam attack site,' this officer said. Thereafter, the bodies will be sent for burial at a location already decided, he said. Investigators believe that electronic devices recovered from three terrorists could help solve the Pahalgam case. Also Read: NIA court declares Hizb chief Syed Salahuddin proclaimed offender under UAPA In the February 2019 Pulwama terror attack as well, the NIA got its first clue several months later from the mobile phone of Maulana Masood Azhar's nephew Mohammad Umar Farooq, who had been killed in an encounter on March 29, 2019. The agency retrieved numerous photos, videos and conversations from Farooq's phone regarding his journey from Pakistan to India through border, bomb making, and photos of other accomplices. Farooq had also saved all his conversations including WhatsApp messages with Jaish-e-Mohammad leadership – primarily his uncles Abdul Rouf Asghar and Ammar Alvi in Pakistan and other operatives from the valley. Based on this evidence, NIA filed a charge sheet in Pulwama attack naming Jaish-e-Mohammad chief Maulana Masood Azhar, his younger brothers - Abdul Rouf Asghar Alvi and Ammar Alvi, his nephew Mohammad Umar Farooq, and 15 others who carried out the bombing at Pakistan's behest. A second officer cited above said 'there are chances that electronic devices recovered on Monday will give clues in Pahalgam attack'. As reported by HT on Tuesday, intelligence agencies intercepted a 'suspicious communication' on July 11 in an area near Dachigam National Park in Jammu & Kashmir following which Operation Mahadev was launched and three terrorists were eliminated. The intercept suggested that the user of the communication device from which the signal originated had some links with the April 22 Pahalgam terrorist attack. The Resistance Front, a proxy group for the banned LeT organisation, claimed responsibility for the attack. Indian agencies say the group is a front used by Pakistan to avoid international sanctions. India responded to the Pahalgam attack with Operation Sindoor on May 7, bombing nine terrorist camps across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in pre-dawn strikes that killed at least 100 militants. The operation sparked four days of cross-border fighting involving fighter jets, missiles, and artillery. On the intervening night of May 9 and 10, the Indian Air Force (IAF) struck targets at 13 Pakistani airbases and military installations before hostilities ended on May 10.

Pahalgam mastermind among 3 killed in J&K encounter
Srinagar: As Defence Minister Rajnath Singh began the Operation Sindoor debate in Parliament, security forces scored a massive win on Monday by gunning down three Pakistani terrorists in an encounter near Srinagar, two of them involved in the Pahalgam attack in which 26 innocents were murdered in cold blood. Suleiman Shah, a Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist, was identified as the mastermind of the April 22 terror attack that shook the nation. Security sources have confirmed that he was among the terrorists killed in the encounter in the morning. Monday's operation, named Operation Mahadev, neutralised two other terrorists: Abu Hamza and Yasir. Yasir, too, is believed to be among the Pahalgam killers. Security forces from the Army, CRPF and Jammu and Kashmir Police were part of the joint operation. Suleiman served in the Pakistan Army and was also known as Hashim Moosa. In the aftermath of the terror attack at Pahalgam's Baisaran Valley, the Jammu and Kashmir Police had announced a Rs 20 lakh reward on anyone providing information about Suleiman. All the terrorists, it is learnt, were "high-value" targets. According to reports, the security forces acted on an intelligence input and launched the operation in the Mulnar area of Harwan. Reinforcements have been rushed to the area and a combing exercise is on. "It is a prolonged operation and is still continuing in which J&K police, paramilitary and army have an exchange of fire (with terrorists) in higher reaches. It is an ongoing operation, and we will share details with you at an opportune time,' the police said.
