UAE's NEP experts unveil 8 solutions to national challenges at BX Conference 2025

ABU DHABI (WAM)Eight experts from the UAE's National Experts Programme (NEP 4.0 Cohort) have unveiled today eight innovative behavioural policy solutions at The Behavioural Exchange (BX2025). These solutions address some of the UAE's most pressing challenges, ranging from education and healthcare to sustainability, cultural identity, and food security.BX2025, being held for the first time in the MENA region, takes place at New York University Abu Dhabi, from 30th April to 1st May 2025.The experts' solutions showcase field-tested interventions designed to address key national challenges. Each project is developed using behavioural science methodologies and piloted during the conference.Each solution reflects the UAE's strategic vision for the future, with a strong emphasis on innovation and social impact.In this regard, Ahmed Taleb Al Shamsi, Director of the NEP, emphasised the active role of the UAE NEP experts in addressing contemporary challenges and developing effective solutions, particularly in areas of national priorities. He also highlighted the importance of leveraging behavioural science methodologies, grounded in scientific evidence and empirical studies, to shape policies tailored to various critical societal issues.Among the projects, Khulood Alawadi's project focuses on empowering students by addressing the unique learning needs. Her proposal champions innovative, gender-responsive solutions that foster engagement, encouraging both academic success and active participation in civic life.Dr. Mohamed Al Ameri proposes behavioural interventions to reduce the incidence of rare genetic diseases through enhanced premarital screening practices.Mohamed Janahi outlines a consumer behaviour strategy to increase purchases of UAE-made goods using shelf labelling, mobile nudges, and retail loyalty incentives. Maryam Al Falasi focuses on food security, proposing a national food donation system using default prompts and behavioural incentives to reduce waste.On youth and digital engagement, Faisal Al Hawi introduces a school-and-home-based programme to reduce passive screen time among children aged 6–10. Sumaya Al Hajeri will launch a digital literacy campaign led by 'Digital Heroes,' encouraging responsible and values-driven social media use among UAE youth.In the culture and identity track, Rawdha Al Qubaisi proposes integrating certified Emirati cultural immersion into visa pathways and workplace onboarding to improve long-term expat engagement.
Mohamed Alwahedi introduces a policy initiative to promote modest 'Medeem' weddings through defaults, social messaging, and community-led incentives.

UAE Lottery: 7 residents bag Dh100,000 each in 13th lucky chance draw
The 13th draw of the Lucky Day, Lucky Chance draw at the UAE Lottery brought life-changing news to seven participants on Saturday, May 31, with each winning Dh100,000 in the weekly Lucky Chance raffle. While the odds of winning the jackpot are one in over 8 million, "someone in the UAE will win the Dh100 million for sure," Bishop Woosley, director of Lottery Operations at The Game, which operates UAE Lottery, had earlier told Khaleej Times. Asked if the company was working to better the odds, Woosley had said they were looking at 'player preferences, what they play, how much they play and what games they like.' The lottery is for residents aged 18 and above in the UAE. Players are not allowed to participate in the games unless they are physically present in the country at the time of playing. As of now, the prizes are not subject to any taxes.

UAE President, Lebanese head of state discuss regional developments over phone
UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and his Lebanese counterpart Joseph Aoun reiterated the importance of stability and security across the region and said that it was vital to promote peace. The two leaders spoke over the phone on Saturday, May 31 during which they discussed relations between the two countries and explored ways to enhance cooperation across various sectors. Earlier in the week, Lebanese Prime Minister Dr. Nawaf Salam was in Dubai for the Arab Media Summit during which he expressed deep gratitude to the UAE and President Sheikh Mohamed for fulfilling promises to allow Emiratis to return to their 'second home' Lebanon. 'Lebanon does not forget the gestures of our brothers in the Arabian Gulf.' Dr. Salam had said. The Lebanese premier said that approximately 190,000 Lebanese citizens live and work in the UAE. UAE and Lebanon agreed to allow citizens to travel after taking the necessary measures to facilitate movement between the two countries and establishing appropriate mechanisms. UAE citizens were allowed to travel to Lebanon effective May 7 but prior registration on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Twajudi platform is mandatory.
