SPFL side hit by shock transfer embargo which lasts until NEXT season

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) HAMILTON ACCIES have been hit by the bombshell news that their transfer embargo will last until the end of the season. The news came after John Rankin insisted the relegated Lanarkshire side were working 'around the clock' to get the ban overturned. This ultimately proved insurmountable as the Accies - who now play out of Broadwood - were demoted to League One. And now the club have been told that they'll be prevented from signing any new players right through to the end of next season - including the January transfer window. The SPFL said in a statement: "The SPFL can today confirm that an independent disciplinary tribunal has imposed a season-long transfer embargo on Hamilton Academical FC. "The William Hill League 1 club was already subject to a transfer embargo following remuneration and tax defaults which were determined or admitted during season 2024/25. "Any SPFL club that fails to settle its tax obligations or pay its players on time is subject to an automatic transfer embargo under SPFL Rules. "At a hearing which took place on Thursday 24 July, Hamilton Academical FC admitted to further breaches of SPFL Rules by failing to settle its tax obligations to HMRC on three occasions, and for failing to notify the SPFL that it had been in default of its tax obligations to HMRC on each occasion, as required by SPFL Rules. "Following these latest admitted breaches by the club, an independent disciplinary tribunal imposed the following sanctions: • a transfer embargo which will remain in place until the opening of the registration window, which follows the end of season 2025/26; and • A fine of £7,500 - £5,000 of which is suspended." Sol Campbell claims one striker might not be enough to turn Arsenal into champions ahead of Viktor Gyokeres transfer

SOL CAMPBELL claims Viktor Gyokeres' arrival might not be enough to turn Arsenal into champions. The Gunners legend, 50, says his former club 'need TWO strikers' to turn them into top dogs. 3 Arsenal have been working on bringing in striker Viktor Gyokeres for weeks Credit: Getty 3 Arsenal legend Sol Campbell thinks his arrival still might not be enough Credit: Getty Ex-England defender Campbell lifted the title twice for the North London club and was part of the Invincibles squad - the last Arsenal team to win the Premier League. Arteta lifted the FA Cup in his first season in charge five years ago and has led them to runners-up spot in the top-flight for three consecutive seasons. Martin Zubimendi, Noni Madueke and Christian Norgaard are already on board and Gyokeres looks set to join and finally fill the striker void. Many believe this could be Arteta's year - though Campbell, speaking exclusively to The Sun via betting site BetSelect, insists they still need more firepower to go with the ex-Coventry hotshot. He said: 'You need two strikers to trouble other teams. You can't always rely on just one striker as if he gets injured, the team's performance drops. 'So it's important to have a main one and have another really good backup. Sometimes they can play together, sometimes one's on the bench and the other comes on. It can be good to get a slightly older one who's been there, seen it, and done it, and can come on when you need something to happen for 20 minutes, but they're top, top quality. 'If you pick the second striker properly, they can come on to make a difference. That's something you have to do. So if they do get two strikers, they could definitely become champions. 'That's the type of player who has been missing, somebody who has scored 20-25 goals just in the league. It's okay to say, 'he's got all of these goals in all of these competitions,' but that's not good enough; that's not going to win you the Premier League. You need goals to get you over the line and make up point differences.' BEST FREE BETS AND BETTING SIGN UP OFFERS Campbell also backed Arteta to eventually 'get his moment' and lead the Gunners back to glory. He said: 'Deep down, the players want to win for him. He's desperate to win something. He's doing everything in his power to get that right mentality and that right set of players. He's probably thinking now, 'we've got one chance to do it'. This is the year he'll feel like he's got the right materials and the right players. Declan Rice and the Arsenal squad thank fans for coming out at Singapore match 'He'll get his moment, but when those moments come, he needs the players on the pitch to do the job, whether that's a big save or a big goal in a big game. 'Arteta wants to win something. He knows this team needs to win something. If you get the right centre forward and get everything clicking together, Arsenal have a great chance. 'Every time a player is on the pitch, he has to play his best. You have to be up for it, and he's getting that team together. He's doing the right things and creating the right environment to win.' Campbell is also delighted to see Arsenal getting their transfer business done early. ARSENAL TRANSFER NEWS LIVE: All the latest rumours from the Emirates He added: 'It's so important to get the players that you want in. They get a good pre-season and a good month to settle in, and you really start to form that mentality. 'That's when you begin to think - we've got a good squad here, we've got a chance, if you give us the chance, we're going to take it. 'If you've got the right mentality and the right chemistry in the team, they will keep going and want to win. 'The truth is, if you haven't won anything, it's going to be hard to win your first one. Really hard. If you haven't won it, how do you build that confidence to win? Sometimes you need winners. Sometimes you might need to buy a couple of winners. Even a player who's won something in another country. They know what it takes to be a winner.'

‘Luckiest owners ever' switch horses including ‘unbelievable' chaser from Paul Nicholls to Nicky Henderson

It's a notable shift ahead of the new season Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) AN 'unbelievable' horse and serial Cheltenham winner has made a shock stable switch from Paul Nicholls to Nicky Henderson. Ginny's Destiny, owned by Gordan and Su Hall, was second in the 2024 Turners Novices' Chase won by Grey Dawning. With more than £150,000 in career earnings, the nine-year-old has more than paid his way for his popular owners. But the Halls have decided now is the time to move on and have sent him to Henderson instead. The horse's updated page on the BHA showed he moved to the Seven Barrows handler earlier this week. Ginny's Destiny had been with 14-time champion trainer Nicholls since July 2023, having previously been with Tom Lacey for just shy of three years. Promising bumper winner Act Of Innocence is another of the Hall horses on his way to Henderson. The five-year-old gelding looks like he could be set for a season novice hurdling after winning at Taunton when last seen in March. Don't Tell Su, a 118-rated hurdler and novice chaser has also gone to Henderson. While £100,000 Old Park Star, who Nicholls bought alongside Tom Malone in June 2023, will now be trained by Henderson too. Gordon, who runs a construction company, and Su have been labelled the 'luckiest owners in racing'. Their first horse together was Truckers Lodge, an eight-time winner who finished second in the 2019 Grand National and won the 2023 London National under Nicholls' expert care. Owners Neil and Alfie Smith have moved Scottish Champion Hurdle runner-up Kabral Du Mathan to Dan Skelton from Nicholls. Another of their horses, Farland, is now with Nicholls' former protege Skelton having been with Nicholls for five of his career runs. The Ditcheat boss has been busy stocking up his squad with some eyecatching purchases, including the hugely promising £260,000 Gold Cast. Henderson is starting to welcome some of his horses back from their summer break. He recently posted a photo of Constitution Hill alongside Sir Gino. Both stars will be on recovery missions in the new season. Constitution Hill looked nothing like the breathtaking Champion Hurdle winner when falling twice last season. While Sir Gino was forced to miss Cheltenham after one of his legs suffered a nasty infection.
