KUNA chief and Indian envoy discuss boosting media cooperation KUWAIT: Acting Director General of Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) Mohammad Al-Mannai held talks on Wednesday with the Ambassador of the Republic of India to Kuwait, Dr Adarsh Swaika, to explore avenues for enhancing bilateral cooperation in the media sector. During the meeting, held at KUNA headquarters, both sides affirmed the pivotal role of media in strengthening bilateral relations and advancing them to broader horizons. They underscored the importance of the media in fostering closer ties between the leaderships and peoples of the two friendly nations, which share longstanding historical relations. The discussions highlighted the significance of exchanging expertise between KUNA and Indian media institutions and expanding joint cooperation through training programs. This comes in light of existing cooperation protocols between KUNA and several Indian news and media agencies. The talks also touched on the agency's professional standards and objective coverage of news events through its network of correspondents and international offices, particularly in India. Ambassador Swaika commended KUNA's balanced and credible journalistic approach and its contribution to projecting Kuwait's stance on regional and international issues. The Indian envoy reiterated his country's keenness to strengthen its multifaceted ties with Kuwait, particularly in the media domain, as a means to further deepen the historical and strategic partnership between the two nations. Khor Abdullah case faces further delay

BAGHDAD, June 25: Iraq's Federal Supreme Court postponed on Wednesday its review of appeals submitted by Iraqi President Abdullatif Rashid and Prime Minister Mohammad Al-Sudani regarding the Khor Abdullah agreement between Kuwait and Baghdad, to July 30. According to the court's schedule, these two sessions will be held as postponed sessions and without pleadings. Iraq's President Abdullatif Rashid and Prime Minister Mohammed Al-Sudani launched separate appeals against a Federal Supreme Court decision to render an agreement regulating navigation in the Khor Abdullah waterway between Baghdad and Kuwait unconstitutional. In September of 2023, Iraq's Federal Supreme Court ruled that a bilateral agreement regulating navigation in the Khor Abdullah waterway was unconstitutional, a decision Kuwait said contained 'historical fallacies'.(KUNA)

High-Profile Trial Over KD615,000 Adjourned

KUWAIT CITY, June 25: The Ministerial Court postponed the trial of former Defense Minister Sheikh Ahmad Al- Fahad until Sept 9 to listen to the defense witnesses. It also upheld the decision of the Investigation Committee to dismiss the complaint filed against Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad, accusing him of interfering in the National Assembly elections. The committee previously dismissed the complaint filed by the Financial Investigation Unit, which accused Sheikh Ahmad Al- Fahad of interfering in the legislative elections by disbursing money. During its session on Tuesday, the court listened to the testimonies of the detective in charge of the investigations, as well as two Ministry of Defense employees. This is part of the ongoing hearing of evidence and testimonies that may shed light on the facts of the complaint and the suspicions raised about the mechanism for disbursing the disputed sum. According to the Ministry of Defense, the incidents are related to the suspected illegal disbursements of funds during Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad's tenure as minister. This prompted the filing of the case at the Ministerial Court. The court questioned Sheikh Ahmad Al- Fahad about the charges that include embezzling KD400,000 of public funds; illegally acquiring KD215,000; purchasing six vehicles using money taken from the ministry's account; and submitting two declarations of liability to the Kuwait Anti-Corruption Authority (Nazaha) without disclosing the ownership of the vehicles.
