Poland manager resigns just FOUR DAYS after Robert Lewandowski delivered brutal ultimatum

POLAND'S manager has resigned just four days after Robert Lewandowski issued a brutal ultimatum.
Michal Probierz has stepped down amid a fallout with the striker.

Lewandowski announced his decision to quit the national team after being stripped of the captaincy, with Piotr Zielinski given the armband.
He said: "Taking into account the circumstances and a loss of trust in the coach, I have decided to resign from playing for the Poland national team for as long as he remains in charge.
"I hope I will still have another chance to play again for the best fans in the world."
That ultimatum was issued just four days ago and Probierz has reacted by tendering his own resignation.
He described managing Poland, a role he has held since September 2023, as the "greatest honour" of his life, but he feels it is right for him to step away.
Probierz said in a statement: "I have come to the conclusion that in the current situation the best decision for the good of the national team will be my resignation from the position of coach.
"Performing this function was the fulfilment of my professional dreams and the greatest honour in my life.
"Thank you, of course, to all the footballers I have had the pleasure of meeting along the way.
"I will keep my fingers crossed for all of you, because the national team is our common national asset."
Probierz won nine of his 21 matches in charge, with his last result a 2-1 defeat to Finland that left his side third in their World Cup qualifying group.

Marcus Rashford one of four wingers ‘crazy' about Barcelona with Man Utd star battling Liverpool rival and ex-Prem ace

MARCUS RASHFORD is one of four wingers being eyed for a stunning transfer by Barcelona. The La Liga champions saw their attack explode last season with Ballon d'Or candidates Lamine Yamal and Raphinha contributing to 102 goals by scoring themselves or assisting a team-mate. 7 7 However, Hansi Flick wants to add even more firepower to the ranks in a bid to retain the Spanish league title and better their semi-final appearance in the Champions League - where they lost to Inter Milan. According to Mundo Deportivo, after adding goalkeeper Joan Garcia in a £21million transfer, the priority now is to add a left-footed attacker. A four-man shortlist has been drawn up to that end. The number one target on the shopping list is Liverpool star Luis Diaz, who has been on their radar for some time, while exiled Manchester United ace Rashford is also on there. Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams is another name on the list, along with cut-price option Ivan Perisic who is available on a free after being released by PSV. Below we take a look at each of the options and what they offer the Camp Nou outfit. Luis Diaz - Liverpool 7 Colombia talisman Diaz - a childhood fan of the club - has been flirting with a move to Barcelona for some time now and is said to have "made up his mind" on wanting a transfer to Barca. The 28-year-old is said to not feel valued at Anfield, where he scored 17 goals and added eight assists in all competitions. The Reds have not offered him a new contract ahead of his deal expiring in 2027, and he could fall down the pecking order with the imminent arrival of £116.5m ace Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen. Reports suggest Diaz has been told he can leave Liverpool for £51m, although that is above the price Barca want to pay and his current employers have already rejected an approach this summer. Man Utd outcast Marcus Rashford hits back at fan who abused him after he posted training video ahead of transfer exit Marcus Rashford - Manchester United 7 Rashford is on the for-sale list at boyhood club Man Utd after being exiled by Ruben Amorim. The 27-year-old was offered to Barcelona last January before he completed a loan transfer to Aston Villa, where he put in some impressive displays while racking up 10 goal contributions in 17 games. It is understood Rashford will be available for £40m this summer, while he would also be willing to take a wage cut from his current £325,000-per-week earnings at Old Trafford. Barca transfer chief Deco has already said Rashford is a player the club "likes" and Rashford is said to have told his agents to push for a move to Spain. Nico Williams - Athletic Bilbao The Spanish winger was the club's primary target last summer after a breakout season for club and country, and while he added more goals to his game in the last 12 months, he overall had a more low-key year. Barcelona now have rival interest in the attacker in the form of Arsenal and Bayern Munich. However, the 22-year-old is reportedly desperate to join Barca as he hopes to link up with Yamal and made his ambitions clear to Deco. He is understood to have a release clause of £53m. Ivan Perisic - Free agent 7 Former Tottenham star Perisic is a seasoned veteran and could be the perfect foil to the relatively inexperienced attacking set-up at Flick's disposal. Flick knows him from their time together at Bayern Munich, when Perisic bagged 14 goal contributions in 26 games. As a free option on the market Barcelona could do far worse, and the 36-year-old Croatia international is said to be willing to wait for Barcelona to make an approach before deciding on his future. His plan is to reach the World Cup with Croatia and knows competing for a spot at Barcelona will improve those chances. 7

Tennis star Aryna Sabalenka shares loved-up photos with her boyfriend as pair soak in the sun in Mykonos after bitter French Open final defeat by Coco Gauff

Aryna Sabalenka may have come up short in the French Open final but the 27-year-old appeared to be unfazed as she enjoyed a holiday with her boyfriend in Mykonos. Coco Gauff got the better of the Belarusian at Roland Garros but she is still making the most of her holidays. Sabalenka took to Instagram to share a series of photos of herself and Georgios Frangulis having a good time on the Greek island. The tennis star has been Oakberry founder and racecar driver Frangulis since early 2024. Her previous boyfriend Konstantin Koltsov tragically 'died of suicide' prior to that after jumping from a hotel balcony in Miami, police have confirmed. Sabalenka was involved in one of the great women's finals of the decade which ended 6-7, 6-2, 6-4 to Gauff. It was a contest between the two best players on the planet in which Gauff prevailed. This marked the second Grand Slam of Gauff's career, having also claimed the 2023 US Open title. The world No 2 became the first American to win the French Open since Serena Williams in 2015. And in an ungracious press-conference after the final, Sabalenka argued that Swiatek would have beaten Gauff had she progressed past the semi-final. Sabalenka said: 'That hurts. Especially when I've been playing really great tennis during the whole week. A lot of tough opponents, Iga. 'I think if Iga would have beaten me, she would go out today and she would get the win.' Gauff parried the distasteful claim away and cited her victory in straight sets against Swiatek at the Madrid Open earlier this year, which was also on clay. Gauff rebutted: 'I mean, I don't agree with that. I'm here sitting here (with the trophy). Last time I played - no shade to Iga or anything, but I played her and I won in straight sets (in Madrid). 'I don't think that's a fair thing to say, because anything can happen. The way Aryna was playing the last few weeks, she was the favourite to win the title. If you asked me, honestly, who I wanted to play, it was Iga just because I felt Aryna was playing so good, and she was. 'But regardless of who I played, I think I had a good shot to win. I definitely had that belief.' Sabalenka made 70 unforced errors in blustery conditions, and said: 'It felt like a joke. Like somebody from above was laughing: let's see if you can handle this. 'After two weeks of incredible tennis, in the final in terrible conditions to play such terrible tennis really hurts. 'It felt like she (Gauff) was hitting the ball off the frame and somehow magically it lands in the court. I don't think she won the match because she played incredible, just because I made all those mistakes.'
