Mother's Day weekend: Where to treat Mom in the Seattle area

Mother's Day Weekend is here, and the top priority should be spending time with Mom and the moms in your life, but if you still need ideas on what to do, we've got you covered!
Pick the perfect bouquet at the Flower Festival at Pike Place Market. There will be 35 local farmers selling, and there will be live music all day. This is going down on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
In Capitol Hill this weekend, it is Pierogi Fest. In addition to tons of tasty food to enjoy, there will also be Polish clothes for sale, a beer garden, and a performance from a Polish choir. This is going on at the Polish Cultural Center from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday.
In the Beacon Hill neighborhood on Saturday, you can check out the first of four Beacon Arts Street Fairs. It's free to attend and it's all about Mother's Day. There will be music from female-led bands, poetry writing, family fun like story time, art projects and dance workshops, plus food, an art market and a garden share for those working on your yards.
In Edmonds at the Frances Anderson Playfield on Saturday, it is the Edmonds Spring Fest. This free all-ages event has over 100 vendors, plenty of food trucks, and the perfect place to find something for Mom.
If you want something a little more tranquil for Mom, check out BonsaiFest at the Pacific Bonsai Museum in Federal Way. This event is free, and there will be hundreds of bonsais to check out and appreciate the craft that goes into each one. There will also be live bonsai-making demonstrations and special exhibitions that highlight all things bonsai. You can grab a bonsai for mom, enjoy food trucks and there's fun for the kids as well.
Seattle Beer Week is underway starting Friday and running through next week. One of the headline events is Friday night at 5 p.m. at the Beveridge Place Pub, where there will be 10 casks of beer from 10 different Seattle Breweries on tap for people to enjoy. Not to mention events and specials all week long at a ton of spots around Seattle. Don't forget to try the Official Beer of Seattle Beer Week as well, the Group Project. This is one of the cooler community events of the spring, if you ask me, Saturday in West Seattle is the West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day. Over 500 homes will be hosting sales and if you are looking for something in particular, you can use the helpful search features on the West Seattle Blog to find listed items.
At the Evergreen State Fairgrounds on Saturday, you and the family can learn about the wonderful world of reptiles at the Seattle Metro Reptile Expo. This event has been going on since 2009 and for those that are a fan of these creatures, you'll be face to face with reptiles, bugs, arachnids, and amphibians. You can find more details right here.
Take your mom out to the ballgame as the red hot Mariners are back in town. The Toronto Blue Jays come to town and there's promo events for every game this weekend. Also, in the world of sports, the Seattle Reign take on the Houston Dash Sunday at 5 p.m. at Lumen Field.

The U.S. Air Force Woodwind Quintet is putting on free concerts this weekend, one in Bellingham Friday night at Western Washington University (WWU) at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday on Mercer Island. They are also offering a masterclass at WWU at 5 p.m. before the performance.

Former Ring Of Honor Star Announces His Retirement
A former Ring of Honor star has chosen to hang up the boots. Brian Milonas, best known for his tag team, The Bouncers, with the Beer City Bruiser, has decided that it's time for him to retire. Milonas took to social media this morning to announce his retirement from pro wrestling in a very lengthy statement, tweeting out: Advertisement 'Sometimes in life the mind wants something the body just isn't capable of. Since I was a little boy professional wrestling has been something I've been passionate about. From watching the stars of the 80s all the way through till now I have loved professional wrestling. As an adult the pursuit of a career in pro wrestling has been my singular focus. Starting at age 19, I have dedicated so much time, effort and energy into making this crazy dream happen. While I fell short of my ultimate goal of becoming a WWE Superstar, I am very proud of my resume. I've had great times and made great friends along the way. My only regret is not stopping more in the moments to enjoy the journey. Today I say goodbye to the pursuit of pro wrestling as my life. I say goodbye to performing in the ring. As it turns out my last match took place on February 22, 2024. Nearly 23 years of being in the ring and performing has been one of the greatest honors of my life. From the Polish American Veteran's Club in Lowell, MA all the way to Madison Square Garden in New York City. What a ride. Thank you to the fans who have supported me these last two decades. Jury deliberations begin in Harvey Weinstein's NYC sexual assault retrial
Jurors in Harvey Weinstein's sexual assault retrial in Manhattan finished their first day of deliberations Thursday, as they mull whether the disgraced Hollywood heavyweight leveraged his power to sexually assault three women. Weinstein, 73, is on trial in Manhattan Supreme Court for criminal sex act and rape, after his landmark 2020 #MeToo conviction was overturned last year. Jurors heard the stories of three accusers over the course of the eight-week trial — former TV production assistant Miriam Haley, Polish model and aspiring actress Kaja Sokola, and one-time actress Jessica Mann. Mann and Haley testified at Weinstein's 2020 trial, which ended in a 23-year prison sentence before the state's highest court ruled that Judge James Burke should have never allowed the testimony of three women who accused the movie mogul of sexual assaults that weren't included in the charges against him. Defense lawyer Arthur Aidala and Assistant D.A. Nicole Blumberg gave their closing arguments on Tuesday and Wednesday, and the case officially went to the jury at about 11:30 a.m. Thursday. The jurors ended the day with a trio of notes to the court, requesting to again hear testimony from Sokola and Mann describing their alleged attacks at the TriBeca Grand Hotel and DoubleTree Hotel. They also asked to see Mann's medical records from her hospital and doctor's visits after news accounts came out detailing Weinstein's history as a serial sex harasser in October 2017. Mann testified that she checked herself into an emergency room after having a panic attack and suicidal thoughts after hearing the news. The records also show that she told her doctors Weinstein had raped her. Haley, a former TV producer who met Weinstein in 2004 accused him of pulling out a tampon and forcibly performing oral sex on her in July 2006, and testified about a second, unwanted sexual encounter at the Tribeca Grand Hotel two weeks later. Sokola testified that Weinstein attacked her when she was a 16-year-old model, rubbing her vagina under her pants and underwear in 2002, and in 2006, he forcibly performed oral sex on her at the Tribeca Grand Hotel while her sister waited at a restaurant table downstairs. Mann, also an aspiring actress, alleged Weinstein raped her in Midtown's DoubleTree Hotel in March 2013, but maintained a complicated 'relationship' that included some consensual sexual encounters for years. She also testified about an encounter at the Peninsula Hotel in 2013 where she says Weinstein raped her after she told him she was getting serious with her new actor boyfriend. Jury deliberations resume Friday.
