Mascha In Trouble: Inter Miami Head Coach Spotted Passing On Instructions Over Phone After Red Card
Mascherano was sent off ahead of the second period of play, and was caught talking on the phone in an attempt to pass on instruction, which is banned in the Leagues Cup.
Inter Miami head coach Javier Mascherano courted controversy on Thursday as he was pictured making a phone call to pass on tactical information after being sent off during the Leagues Cup game between the Herons and Tigres at the Chase Stadium in Florida.
Miami, who were devoid of the services of eight-time Ballon d'Or-winning Argentine icon Lionel Messi due to injury, posted a 2-1 win over the Mexican club thanks to a brace of penalties from Luis Suarez. However, the Herons had to endure head coach Mascherano being sent off from the touchline.
Mascherano was sent off ahead of the commencement of the second period of play over an argument with the referee, but his situation worsened as he was caught talking on the phone in an attempt to pass on instruction, which is banned in the Leagues Cup.
Miami, missing the services of eight-time Ballon d'Or-winning Argentine icon Lionel Messi due to injury, secured a 2-1 victory over the Mexican club, thanks to two penalty goals from Luis Suarez. However, the Herons faced a challenge when head coach Mascherano was sent off from the touchline.
Mascherano was ejected just before the second half started following an argument with the referee. His situation deteriorated further when he was caught using his phone to provide instructions, which is prohibited in the Leagues Cup.
Mascherano reportedly instructed assistant coach Lucas Rodriguez Pagano during the phone call while seated at the stadium.
Additionally, Aquino had a moment to forget as the ball struck his arm again in the box, allowing Suarez to step up and score the winning goal in the 89th minute of the match.

BCCI To End Partnership With Dream11? Secretary Saikia Issues Big Update
Last Updated: BCCI would comply with the Indian government's new upcoming Bills against real money companies, even if it might mean ending sponsorship deal with Dream11. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is in full support of the central government's two new bills — the National Sports Governance Law, 2025 and Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025 (which was passed in Lok Sabha on Wednesday, but is yet to become a law) — and will follow them in 'true letter and spirit', according to secretary Devajit Saikia. Both regulations could have a significant impact on the board and the Indian cricket teams. To start with, the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill is calling for a blanket ban on all real-money gaming platforms and their promoters. That will include Dream11, the official shirt sponsor of the BCCI. 'Once the act comes into force, we will look into it, examine it and if it's permissible, then we will take sponsorship (from online betting and gaming companies), if it's not permissible, we'll not do anything," Saikia told The Times of India about the latter. 'Take the example of cigarettes and liquor. Has the BCCI taken any sponsorship from the cigarettes and liquor companies once taking sponsorship from these kinds of companies was banned? So, whatever is permissible in the laws in force in our country, we will do that only. The BCCI will follow every policy of the country which is framed by the central government," he added. The National Sports Governance Law, 2025, made the government's stance on multi-national cricket between India and Pakistan formal, allowing the BCCI to participate and play against the Men in Green in the 2025 Asia Cup in September. Under it, bilateral cricket between India and Pakistan remains outlawed, with cricketers from across the border not allowed to step into India unless it's for a multi-nation tournament. 'The central government has taken the interest of the players, the teams and also, the events that are going to be hosted by our country in the future. So, all these things are very nicely taken by the government of India and we fully endorse the view expressed by the central government and we will 100% abide by the policy framed by the central government," Saikia added. 'The BCCI will not go a single inch against the government's policy. We will fully abide by all policies of the central government, whether it is participating in an international sporting event or regarding sponsorship. We will follow everything in true letter and spirit," he said. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Indian Teen Shooters Win 26 Medals At Asian Shooting Championship
Teenaged Indian shooters won four golds at the 16th Asian Shooting Championship, raising India's tally to 26 medals and setting records, led by Abhinav Shaw and Mansi Raghuwanshi. Teenaged Indian shooters secured four out of the five gold medals available on the fourth day of the 16th Asian Shooting Championship, boosting India's medal tally to 26 on Thursday. India now boasts 14 gold, six silver, and six bronze medals, solidifying their lead in the standings. Abhinav Shaw initiated India's gold haul, partnering with Naraen Pranav (third with 631.1) and Himanshu (fourth with 630.9) to score 628.1 in qualification, thus securing a spot in the final for himself. Their combined tally of 1890.1 set both an Asian and junior world record, besides earning a gold for India. In an exciting final, Shaw started fifth but took the lead after the second series of five shots. The final stage was a close contest with Lee Hyunseo, but Shaw demonstrated remarkable composure, especially after scoring two high 9s on his 17th and 18th shots, eventually edging out the Korean by 0.1. A perfect 10.9 on his 21st shot capped his victory. In the junior women's skeet final, Mansi Raghuwanshi emerged victorious with a score of 53 out of 60 targets. Fellow Indian Yashasvi Rathore earned silver with 52, while Kazakhstan's Lidiya Basharova took bronze. Mansi clinched gold by hitting all her last 10 targets, whereas Yashasvi missed two, settling for silver. Agrima Kanwar, the other Indian participant, finished sixth in the final. In the junior men's skeet, Harmehar Singh Lally (115, 3rd in qualification) and Jyotiraditya Singh Sisodia (110, 5th in qualification) secured individual silver and bronze with scores of 52 and 43 respectively. Artyom Sedelnikov of Kazakhstan won gold with 53 hits. However, the Indian duo, along with Atul Singh Rajawat (107), won the junior men's skeet team gold with a combined score of 338, surpassing the Kazakh team by four. Earlier, all three Indian shooters in the men's 10m air rifle senior event excelled in qualification rounds, earning yet another team gold for India. However, Rudrankksh Patil and Arjun Babuta finished fourth and fifth in the final, missing out on individual medals. Patil was in medal contention until the 20th shot of the 24-shot final, finishing with 207.6. Babuta exited two shots earlier with 185.8, as Kazakhstan's Islam Satpayev claimed gold, China's Lu Dingke took silver, and Korea's Park Haejun won bronze. Vishal TK Creates History, Breaks National Record For 400m With Stellar Run
Vishal Thennarasu Kayalvizhi broke Muhammed Anas's men's 400m national record with 45.12 seconds at the National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championships in Chennai. Tamil Nadu's Vishal Thennarasu Kayalvizhi on Thursday smashed the men's 400m national record with a time of 45.12 seconds at the National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championships on Thursday (August 21). He broke the national record of 45.21 seconds, held by Muhammed Anas since 2019. The 21-year-old quarter-miler ran a stunning race to leave his rivals way, way behind at the finishing line to cement his status as the numero uno 400m racer in the country. With this 45.12 seconds run, Vishal became the fourth fastest Asian 400m runner of the season — only behind Japan's Yuki Joseph Nakajima (44.84 seconds), Qater's Ammar Ismail Ibrahim (44.90 seconds) and China's Liukai Liu (45.06 seconds). Watch a clip of his record-shattering run here: Vishal's previous best was 45.57 seconds while finishing fourth at the 2025 Asian Championships in May in South Korea. There, he was part of India's gold-winning mixed 4x400m relay team and silver-winning men's 4x400m relay group. Although he was well behind the automatic World Championships qualification time of 44.85 seconds, this was his fifth sub-46 run of the season. Vishal has been on a meteoric rise in his short career, which he began in 2022. It now seems hardly believable that he started running individual 400m races only in 2024, with 46.77 seconds being the best of that year. This year, he rose to become the country's premier quarter-miler, winning the Federation Cup National Championships title in April with a time of 46.19 seconds. His best moment came on August 10 when he won 400m gold in the World Athletics Continental Tour bronze level meet in Bhubaneswar with a time of 45.72 seconds. Rajesh Ramesh, also of Tamil Nadu, was second with 46.04 seconds, while Haryana's Vikrant Panchal was third with 46.17 seconds.
