Andrew Porter hails wife Elaine as a ‘champion' after long labour with newborn son
The Leinster and Ireland prop loved the 'crazy' experience of seeing his baby son born
Dubliner Andrew and Elaine are now doting parents to a son, born two weeks ago — the first grandchild in both families.
Going back to how he first contacted Elaine, who comes from Bray, Co Wicklow, Andrew says: 'It was over Instagram…a modern day romance. I remember shooting my shot… then we met up and went on a few dates.
'Elaine was someone I had an instant connection with. It's mad looking back how things have turned out. Back then, could you have said this is where we would be now? It's a mad thought, but I wouldn't change any of it.'

Does she like rugby? 'Oh yeah, she's mad into it,' Andrew says.
'She was more of a GAA person before, and then she was forced into it when she met me, but she loves the rugby now. She goes to all the games when she can. She's the best fan I have and she's always there to patch me up when I need it after a tough game.
'I know the sacrifices she makes and now with the new arrival and what's on the horizon as well (the British & Irish Lions tour to Australia)…it's never an easy thing being a partner to a rugby player.'
'It's tough to not feel guilty at times. It's nearly like everyone else's schedule revolves around mine.'

Andrew was with Elaine when their son came into the world, describing the moment as a 'crazy' experience, adding that it was 'incredibly special getting to be there.'
Elaine, who previously revealed that she suffered two miscarriages last year, was 13 hours in labour.
'It was a long old shift she put in, in fairness,' Andrew says.

'Rugby players put themselves through all sorts, but I don't think we put ourselves through anything close to that. Elaine's an absolute champion after what she went through. She's incredibly special.'
A woman has a tougher job bringing a child into the world? 'Oh, 100 per cent,' he says. 'In the movies it looks so easy. They don't even come close to hitting the nail on the head.'
Porter points out that his son was born 'on the day of the Champions Cup Final (which Leinster failed to reach), so it really puts things into perspective.' Read more
When we speak Baby Porter had yet to be given a first name. 'We're still trying to figure out his name,' Andrew reveals. 'We had a few, but after he was born we were like, 'I'm not sure if that suits.' It's Baby Porter at the moment.'
An ambassador for high-protein performance brand Grenade, Porter is promoting their latest campaign Join the Revolution. As part of the campaign, Grenade will sponsor kits for 20 teams, offering them full branded kits, product hampers and team banners.

Shamrock Rovers striker Graham Burke wins monthly honour for May
Shamrock Rovers striker Graham Burke who has been hugely instrumental in the Hoops charge back to the top of the SSE Airtricity Men's Premier Division table has won the SSE Airtricity/Soccer Writers Ireland POTM award for May. The Dubliner scored four goals and two assists as his form continues to improve over the half-way stage in the title race. He has revelled in his seven appearances over the month so much so that he outscored Drogheda United's Conor Keeley and third placed Tommy Lonergan of Waterford FC in the nationwide poll. Burke has won four league titles and one FAI Cup winners' medal (2019) and he was capped three times for Ireland in the summer of 2018 against France, USA and Poland. He scored his only goal against the Americans in Dublin and, in doing so, became the first home-based, goal-scorer since April, 1978 when Ray Treacy, also of Shamrock Rovers, netted for Ireland against Türkiye. "I haven't won this award for a long time (2018), but having said that, I am delighted to have won it for the month of May. I think it's just the third time I have won the soccer writers award and the last time was back in 2018 when I was capped at international level. "Our form at Rovers has been excellent – one defeat in nine and just three setbacks in all – we just go out and try to do what we do best. We know as a group what we are capable of and we have a system we play that works well for us. "The three defeats came early on at the start of the league campaign and off the back of a short pre-season and it took us a few weeks to get up to speed. We have been on a good run lately and we want to keep that going for a long as we can. The team have been performing well week in, week out and it's not just down to me," said Graham. Rovers who are going for five league titles in six seasons are currently the highest goalscorers and have the meanest defence in the top flight. "It's game-by-game with us but it's great to be top of the table at the half-way stage. Things can change quickly in this league, it's so competitive, but I can guarantee you, that we won't be getting carried away just yet," he added.
