Christian Petracca slammed as damning act exposed during loss to Western Bulldogs
Demons superstar Christian Petracca has been slammed for his poor body language as rumours swirl that he is plotting an exit. Just five days after Melbourne axed premiership coach Simon Goodwin, the Demons fell by six points to the Western Bulldogs. On two separate occasions, the midfielder was seen flapping his arms about after not receiving the ball and even looked genuinely disappointed when he was overlooked for another option that worked out. It led to AFL great Luke Hodge launching a scathing attack on the Demons star on Tuesday night, stating Petracca has made it clear that he is more concerned with his own stats than what is best for the team. 'You've got Christian Petracca here letting him (Langford) know … he's put the arms up, he hasn't followed in. But the worst part is what comes after,' the three-time premiership skipper said on Channel 7's The Agenda Setters. 'That results in a goal. Yes, he is bypassed, lets him know, lets everyone know. But where's the reaction? Do you go to the young kid and say, 'Hey, good kick to the top of the goalsquare?' 'Do you go down to Kozzy Pickett, pat him on the back, or do you walk around? He's not going to anyone, he hasn't clapped, hasn't looked across at Langford, who didn't pass it to him, didn't say anything, (he just) turned around. 'That's a person who's worried about his own stats. So if you're looking as a coach coming into this Melbourne football club, the first thing I'll be doing is getting to the leaders and saying play like leaders, react like leaders, and support your younger teammates.' On another occasion, Petracca gave his teammates a gobfull after being closely marked inside the forward 50. After not receiving the ball, Petracca threw his head back and looked genuinely furious. His body language has only fuelled speculation that he is searching for an exit as a rift in the playing group following the sacking of Goodwin becomes clear. The 2021 Norm Smith Medallist appears to be on the lookout for a new club, with several potential destinations emerging for the star midfielder. Hawthorn appears to be the obvious new home for Petracca if he wants the exit bad enough. The Hawks desperately need another goalkicking midfielder, and their attempts to poach Harley Reid out of West Coast are expected to fall short. While Melbourne needs a key forward desperately, and the Hawks have no shortage of them, making a swap deal very feasible. Hawthorn has Mabior Chol, Mitch Lewis, Calsher Dear and Jack Gunston all fighting for three places, and it would make sense for one to give way, especially if it results in them snaring Petracca. Collingwood and Carlton, who both voiced interest in Petracca at the end of last season, also could provide the 29-year-old with an exit plan. But Hodge says, regardless of whether or not he is there next year, Petracca needs to fix his attitude. 'Maybe he may not be there (next year). (But) Wherever he goes, his body language needs to get better,' Hodge continued. 'It's not all about him. It's about the team and how the team is moving forward.' However, it isn't just Petracca who could be itching to leave following Goodwin's exit. Speculation about the playing futures of Bayley Fritsch and Judd McVee is still rife, and they may try to follow Petracca out the door. While the future of captain Max Gawn is also up in the air, with the veteran big seeing Goodwin as a father figure, and he is understood to be furious with the club's decision to sack him. In the meantime, the Demons will face the Hawks on Saturday afternoon, in a clash sure to provide plenty of fireworks.

Meg Lanning gets the better of Ellyse Perry in Hundred's battle of Australian greats
It is a rare experience for Australian bowlers to be clouted to all parts in the women's game but, if anyone can do it, it is former captain Meg Lanning. The veteran played the leading role as Oval Invincibles smashed the best powerplay score in the five-year history of the Hundred Women, cracking 54 in 25 balls, the first 50 of which came from 20 balls bowled by a trio of Aussies. That set Invincibles up for a 100-ball score of 5-174, the third-highest in Hundred history, and Birmingham Phoenix never looked like matching it. Georgia Voll gave them brief hope with a scintillating start, making 22 off 15 balls, but was caught at mid wicket with a juggling catch by compatriot Amanda Jade-Wellington. Ellyse Perry hit her first two balls for four but she had come to the crease with Phoenix 2-31 and needing a very demanding 144 off 74. The all-rounder had just reached 29 off 16 balls by launching Jade-Wellington for six, but was caught behind next ball trying to cut. Six balls later, Jade-Wellington brilliantly ran out Emma Lamb (25) and, at 4-83 with 59 balls gone, the game was done. Jade-Wellington finished with 2-27 off her 20 balls as the visitors won by 22 runs at Edgbaston, Phoenix closing on 6-152. Phoenix had opened up on Tuesday (local time) with a trio of Australians, Megan Schutt, skipper Perry and Voll, and Lanning tucked into them with English opening partner Lauren Wingfield-HIll. All three bowlers were punished at a rate of more than 10-an-over, not helped by each conceding extras. Perry used seven bowlers to try to stem the flow, but only spinner Hannah Baker had any effect, dismissing both openers as she took 2-24 in her 20, by far the best economy rate. Lanning was caught at deep midwicket by Lamb for a 19-ball 36, then Wingfield-Hill was taken by Perry at mid-off for 33 off 27. However, Alice Capsey had come in with the platform set and the big-hitting England batter, dropped on 21, thumped 52 off 29 balls. When she was out there were two balls left, Jade-Wellington was caught trying to hit the first for four, Ash Gardner then came in and hit her only ball to the boundary. Perry finished with 0-34 off 20 balls, Schutt 1-34 off her 20, and Voll's only five-ball set went for 20. AAP

Man arrested after police firearm discharged inside Sydney Airport terminal
A man has been arrested after a police firearm was discharged during a dramatic confrontation at Sydney Airport. Australian Federal Police have confirmed the man was arrested on Wednesday morning. 'An investigation into the incident has been launched and a crime scene has been established,' police said in a statement. 'There were no injuries as a result of the incident and there is no ongoing threat to the public. 'Further comment will be provided at an appropriate time.' A spokesperson for Sydney Airport media earlier confirmed an altercation had taken place at a domestic terminal of the Mascot airport on Wednesday morning. 'Sydney Airport is currently assisting Australian Federal Police following an incident earlier this morning,' a statement read. 'No injuries occurred as a result of the incident. 'An arrest has been made and the airport is operating normally.' It has been reported the incident sent part of the terminal into lockdown, according to 2GB's Ben Fordham. Video obtained by 2GB showed a man pinned to floor by at least two other men, with a AFP officer brandishing a rifle kneeling on the floor next to the group. The lockdown had reportedly since been lifted. Sydney Airport did not report any flight disruptions, with domestic arrivals and departures running to schedule.
