Remo Stars clinch historic Nigeria Premier League title
Remo Stars secured their maiden Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) crown on Sunday, edging Niger Tornadoes 1-0 at the Remo Stars Stadium to write a new chapter in their history.
A late goal from Olamilekan Muhammed Adebayo in the 84th minute proved decisive, sparking celebrations as the Sky Blue Stars finally got their hands on the prestigious trophy.
The crucial victory moved Remo Stars to 68 points after 35 matches, having recorded 21 wins, five draws, and nine losses.
They hold a commanding 10-point lead over second-placed Rivers United, who sit on 58 points from 16 wins, 10 draws, and nine defeats.
Abia Warriors occupy third place with 56 points, while Ikorodu City are fourth on 53 points as the league campaign approaches its final stages. A Journey Years in the Making
Founded in 2004 by Kunle Soname under the name FC Dender, Remo Stars have steadily climbed the ranks of Nigerian football over the past two decades.
Their ascent saw them earn promotion to the Nigeria National League (NNL) in 2010. However, progress was not always linear.
The club faced relegation from the top flight in 2018 but showed resilience by bouncing back in 2021, securing a place in the NPFL after finishing second in the NNL playoff Group A.
This title triumph marks a historic achievement not just for the club but also for the Southwest region.
Remo Stars are the first club from the region to win the Nigerian top-flight title since Julius Berger lifted the trophy in 1991.
So where does the club go from here?!

With the NPFL title secured, Remo Stars now turn their attention to preparations for continental football, as they are set to represent Nigeria in next season's TotalEnergies CAF Champions League.
It is a moment of immense pride for the club's management, players, and supporters, who have waited patiently for their rise to the summit of Nigerian football.

Tensions Escalate between Atalanta & Lookman
Rana Atef A growing rift is emerging between Italian club Atalanta and their Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman, as the player reportedly skipped training sessions and expressed a clear desire to join Inter Milan — a situation that could soon evolve into a legal dispute. According to Italian media reports, Lookman has recently been absent from team training and was seen removing all his personal belongings from Atalanta's training base in Zingonia. The move was widely interpreted as a sign of defiance and an indication of his intention to force a transfer. Lookman remains under contract with Atalanta until June 2027, with an option to extend for an additional year. However, his recent conduct may prompt the club to take disciplinary and legal action, including salary deductions for repeated absences, as allowed under Italian labor law. Meanwhile, the player's agent, Andrea D'Amico, hinted at the possibility of seeking a unilateral contract termination through legal channels. He referenced a precedent set by the European Court of Justice in the case of French footballer Lassana Diarra, which upheld equal rights for non-EU players and those from EU countries regarding freedom of movement. 'Following the Diarra ruling, Lookman could demand a unilateral termination of his contract with compensation paid to Atalanta, based on the principle of legal equality in free movement,' said D'Amico. Atalanta recently rejected a €45 million offer from Inter Milan for Lookman — a move that reportedly frustrated the player and triggered the current standoff. For now, Lookman's future hangs in the balance as Atalanta hold firm, demanding either the player's full commitment or a higher transfer fee. Whether the situation ends in a mutual agreement or a landmark legal battle, the case is poised to leave its mark on the Italian transfer market. read more Japan Stun Spain 2-1 to Qualify for World Cup Last 16 World Cup 2022: Get to Know Confirmed Line-ups of Japan and Spain Group E Decider Saudi Arabia Bid Farewell to World Cup after 2-1 Loss to Mexico Tunisia Achieve Historic Win over France but Fail to Qualify Tunisia to Clash against France in World Cup Sports Get to Know Squad of Group D Teams in World Cup Sports Al Ahly Gift EGP 70,000 to Players After Claiming Egyptian Super Cup Title Sports Bencharki Hits First 2 Goals with Al Jazira Since Leaving Zamalek Sports Arsenal Possible Line-up for Nottingham Forest News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Arts & Culture Lebanese Media: Fayrouz Collapses after Death of Ziad Rahbani Sports Get to Know 2025 WWE Evolution Results

Atalanta Rejects Ademola Lookman's Statement
Rana Atef Serie A side Atalanta rejected their Nigerian star Ademola Lookman's statements, in which the player accused the club of "not honoring promises" about his transfer. Lookman claimed that the club had pledged to sell him abroad this summer; however, they blocked his move to Inter Milan. The situation escalated as Lookman submitted an official transfer request, which he confirmed in a lengthy statement posted on his Instagram account. In the statement, he said the club had promised to allow his departure this summer if a suitable offer arrived, but is now obstructing his move to Inter Milan 'for reasons I do not understand.' According to the Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport, Atalanta saw the matter differently. The club claimed the promise dates back to last summer, when Lookman asked to be left out of the squad for the UEFA Super Cup match against Real Madrid due to interest from Paris Saint-Germain. The club clarified, according to the report, that the agreement was to allow the player to leave for a non-Italian club if an ambitious and lucrative offer came in. In the same context, Atalanta CEO Percassi said, 'The pact with Lookman was made one year ago when we rejected €20m from PSG'. 'We told him: we'll let you leave in 2025 for a super top club and not in Italy. Now, the situation [with Inter] is different... and as always, it's us deciding' Atalanta stated they would have been more flexible had Lookman attempted to join Arsenal, Chelsea, or PSG, rather than a direct Serie A competitor like Inter. Atalanta insisted that if Lookman is to move to Inter, it must be for the right price—specifically €50 million, instead of the current offer of €42 million plus €3 million in bonuses. read more Japan Stun Spain 2-1 to Qualify for World Cup Last 16 World Cup 2022: Get to Know Confirmed Line-ups of Japan and Spain Group E Decider Saudi Arabia Bid Farewell to World Cup after 2-1 Loss to Mexico Tunisia Achieve Historic Win over France but Fail to Qualify Tunisia to Clash against France in World Cup Sports Get to Know Squad of Group D Teams in World Cup Sports Al Ahly Gift EGP 70,000 to Players After Claiming Egyptian Super Cup Title Sports Bencharki Hits First 2 Goals with Al Jazira Since Leaving Zamalek Sports Arsenal Possible Line-up for Nottingham Forest News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Arts & Culture Lebanese Media: Fayrouz Collapses after Death of Ziad Rahbani Sports Get to Know 2025 WWE Evolution Results
