CAL to hold AGM after 8 yrs;will election be on agenda?
The decision was taken at an executive meeting of CAL on June 28.
A communique issued by the CAL said that the AGM would be held at BBD University at 3pm on July 26. Either the president or the secretary from the clubs associated with CAL can attend the meeting, it added.
Notably, according to CAL's rule book, AGM should be conducted annually but the meeting is being convened after a gap of eight years. The last meeting was held in 2017.
Similarly, CAL's memorandum and rules say that the election of office-bearers should be conducted after the expiry of their tenure (three years), office-bearers claim that a formal election was held in 2005.
CAL secretary Khaleeq Mukhtar Khan said, "It was in 2005 when the association's election was formally held in that year's AGM. Since then, office-bearers have been getting extension every year through consensus (waving of hands) during general meetings. After 2005, the next AGM was held in 2017, but no election was held in that meeting."
Khan has been holding the post since 1985, barring two occasions – once in the late 1980s and again for a few months in 2017.
According to CAL Memorandum and Rules, office-bearers of the executive committee include a president, senior vice-president, two vice-presidents, secretary, treasurer, two joint secretaries, public relation officer, an auditor and nine members.
Joint secretary, CAL, Haider Raza said, "AGMs should take place every year so that cricket clubs get an opportunity to be heard. If election is included in the agenda of this year's AGM, a fair election process should be held under the supervision of Lucknow Society's Registrar."
Former treasurer Sameer Mishra said, "In the 2017 AGM, discussion was held on the issue of election, but the members decided to follow the process of extension of term for another year."

Telangana High Court directs electrical inspectorate to respond to PIL calling for lift safety law
While hearing a PIL petition regarding rising lift-related accidents, the Telangana High Court on Wednesday allowed the impleadment of the Telangana Department of Electrical Inspectorate (TGDEI) as the competent authority to oversee lift safety in the state, and directed the department file to its response within two weeks. A division bench of Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh and Justice G M Mohiuddin was hearing the Public Interest Litigation, which arose from a letter written by advocate Barkat Ali Khan to the acting chief justice on March 14, 2025, highlighting the urgent need for a statutory framework to regulate the installation, maintenance, and safety of lifts. Taking cognisance of the matter, the high court had earlier converted the letter into a PIL petition and issued notices to the chief secretary, the principal secretary of municipal administration and urban development, and the law secretary, seeking the state's position and measures undertaken to prevent lift accidents. During Wednesday's hearing, Barkat Ali Khan, who is assisting the court in the matter as the petitioner, underscored the lack of a comprehensive legislative framework and submitted that the TGDEI is the competent authority to oversee lift safety, and sought its impleadment as a necessary party. The bench granted the interlocutory application for impleadment and sought a response from the TGDEI in this regard within two weeks. In his letter, Khan wrote that the absence of a specific lift safety law in Telangana was a significant public safety concern. Immediate legislative intervention is necessary to establish regulations, ensure accountability, and safeguard the lives of citizens, upholding the principles enshrined in Article 21 of the Constitution of India, he wrote. Khan sought a direction for the state government to enact new rules, guidelines, or legislation governing lifts and moving walkways in both public and private spaces in Telangana.

THIS Muslim nation, India's friend, deploys Turkey's KHAN missile system in..., big setback for China due to...
(File) KHAN Missile System: In a major setback to China's aggressive stance in the South China Sea, Indonesia, the world's largest Muslim-majority nation, has reportedly deployed Turkey's advanced short-range KHAN ballistic missile system in East Kalimantan, a move, experts believe, could alter the balance of power in Southeast Asia. Where Indonesia deployed the KHAN missile system? According to military experts, Indonesia has become the first country in Southeast Asia to acquire ballistic missile capabilities, a step taken by Jakarta to protect its interests amid increasing tensions with China in the South China Sea. Indonesia's ballistic missile deployment is also significant from geopolitical point of view as it highlights how countries in the region are reducing their dependence on the US and the West for arms exports, and boosting defense ties with regional powers like India and Turkey. The East Kalimantan region, where Indonesia has deployed the KHAN missile system, is of great strategic importance because of northern sea routes. The region is also home to Nusantara, Indonesia planned capital city. Why China is concerned? China and Indonesia are embroiled in border dispute in the South China Sea, particularly around the Natuna Islands. Beijing claims a major chunk of the South China Sea through the 'nine-dash line', which overlaps with Indonesia's exclusive economic zone (EEZ). Jakarta often protests intrusions by Chinese fishing boats into its EEZ, and the deployment of the KHAN missile system will give it the ability to deter Chinese intrusions into its borders. How powerful is KHAN missile system? Developed by Turkish arms manufacturer Roketsan, the KHAN missile system is a short-range ballistic missile system, with a range of about 280 km. Indonesia is not a party to the missile control regime, and as such, Turkey cannot sell it missile systems with ranges exceeding 300 km. According to media reports, Indonesia's newly-acquired KHAN missile system was first seen at the Indonesian Army's Raipur A Yonaarmed 18 base in Tengarong, Northern Kalimantan.
