MORE — EURO 2025 schedule, scores
Sarina Wiegman's England made it through to the final four after an epic, almighty scrap with Sweden in the quarterfinals, as the Lionesses won 3-2 on penalty kicks. They had trailed 2-0 in the first half but launched an incredible comeback late in the second half to take the game to extra time, as the reigning champs eventually won on penalty kicks as goalkeeper Hannah Hampton was the hero. England have been far from their best so far in this tournament but they've done enough to make it to the semifinals and are the favorites to advance.
Italy have absolutely nothing to lose and Andrea Soncin's side have made it to this stage of the competition for the first time since 1997. They upset Norway 2-1 in the quarterfinals and the Italians are direct, tough to play against and will have no problem with sitting deep and then looking to hit England on the counter. Everybody expects England to advance but Italy are dangerous.

England focus, team news
Sarina Wiegman will be hoping for a straightforward victory for England after the rollercoaster of emotions the quarterfinal against Sweden delivered. Captain and star center back Leah Williamson should be fit after an ankle injury, while Wiegman has some huge calls to make in attack. Chloe Kelly and Michelle Agyemang had a massive impact off the bench against Sweden and are pushing for starts. Will Wiegman go for it and start Agyemang up top with Alessia Russo from the start?
Italy focus, team news
The Italians have scored first in all of their games at this tournament and that has been key on this dream run to the semifinals. Veteran Cristiana Girelli scored twice to lead the Azzurre to an unexpected win against Norway and Italy's star striker and captain holds the key to their hopes. They were beaten 3-1 by fellow semifinalists Spain in the group stage but Italy have shown they can hang in there in games against the top teams. If they score early against an England side which has struggled defensively in this tournament, the shock is well and truly on.
England vs Italy prediction
This will be a lot closer than most predict, but England's quality in attack will be too much for Italy to handle. It could go to extra time, but England will advance. Just. England 2-1 Italy.

Jonas Valanciunas confirms he will play for Denver this season
Jonas Valanciunas' flirtation with Greek powerhouse Panathinaikos was real and they reportedly were willing to offer three years, $13 million (one of the largest contracts on the continent). The problem for Valanciunas: He was already under contract to the Denver Nuggets, who had traded for his rights from the Sacramento Kings. Denver had no intention of buying out Valanciunas, he is the best backup center Nikola Jokić will have ever had and a key part of the depth the team added over the summer to chase another ring. Valanciunas confirmed he is committed to the Nuggets next season, speaking to Donatas Urbonas of "I want to clear the air about my playing situation next season now that Denver has made their decision to keep me. The idea of playing for Panathinaikos, closer to home, was very exciting to me, but that will have to wait. I am fully committed to honoring my contract with the Nuggets this season and will give it my all to compete for a championship." Valanciunas is under contract for $10.4 million for this season, and he has a non-guaranteed $10 million for the 2026-27 season. After Denver made the trade to acquire the veteran center from Lithuania, general manager Ben Tenzer said he spoke with Valanciunas and his representatives, stating that they wanted him to play with them this season and that there was no intention to buy him out. (For Valanciunas to play in Greece next season would have required Denver to agree to a buyout to make him a free agent, FIBA rules do not permit a player under contract in one league to just sign a contract with another.) Valanciunas is critical to Denver's plans next season, which is why there was never a plan to buy him out of his contract. For a number of years — including during their championship run in 2023 — the Nuggets have fallen off sharply in the minutes Jokic was off the court. Last season, the Nuggets had a -8.5 net rating in the non-Jokic minutes, and in the 2023 championship season, it was even worse, at -9.9. Valanciunas helps change that because he is a skilled big man who can serve as the hub of an offense, executing dribble handoffs while midrange shots (inside 15 feet). Paired with Peyton Watson, Tim Hardaway Jr., Bruce Brown, and the emerging Julian Strawther, the Nuggets have real depth for a change.

Brighton's Estupinan closing on AC Milan switch
Brighton defender Pervis Estupinan is close to completing a move to Italian giants AC Milan. The Serie A side have been pushing to sign the Ecuador full-back for most of the summer and have already had one bid turned down. However, an agreement is close to being concluded that would allow Estupinan to move to the former European champions. Brighton were hoping to get around £17m for the 27-year-old, whose current contract expires in 2027. Estupinan came to England in 2016 when he joined Watford but never played a senior game for the club. Instead, he made his name in La Liga with Villarreal and was part of the squad that beat Manchester United in the 2021 Europa League final. He has made more than 100 appearances across three seasons at Brighton but he suffered a significant ankle injury in 2024 that caused him to miss Copa America. Von Miller will wear No. 24 with the Commanders
Von Miller has worn only 58 and 40 in his 13 NFL seasons with three teams. He will wear No. 24 in his first season with the Commanders. Miller's preferred numbers were taken in Washington, with second-year linebacker Jordan Magee wearing 58 and second-year safety Tyler Owens 40. So, Miller picked a number to honor Hall of Fame defensive back Champ Bailey, Miller's former teammate in Denver, and Kobe Bryant. Miller wore 40 while he was at Texas A&M, but in one game against Arkansas after Corey Borner was paralyzed while making a tackle during practice at DeSoto (Texas) High School, Miller wore Borner's No. 24. Miller is from DeSoto. "When I came here, 58 and 40 were gone, and those were the only two numbers that I had. Oh, I wore 5. That was my very first number, but obviously 5 is already taken, too," Miller said, via Nicki Jhabvala of the Washington Post. "Respect Champ Bailey a lot. Played with Champ Bailey for three years. One of my big brothers, and he played here, and he wore 24. So, it was kind of like it spoke to me in so many different ways, so I decided to go with 24."
