TSG win team general classification at Tour of Kumano as Bregnhoj narrowly misses yellow
KUALA LUMPUR: Terengganu Cycling Team (TSG) scored a timely morale boost ahead of next week's Tour of Japan after winning the team general classification at the Tour of Kumano in Japan today (May 11).
TSG topped the timesheets with a total time of 33 hours, 21 minutes and 20 seconds in the UCI 2.2 tour.
Wanty-Nippo-ReUz (Belgium) came in second overall (+2:39s) while JCL Team Ukyo (Japan) were third (+3:46s).
TSG's Mathias Bregnhoj came in a close second (+8s) to Team Solution Tech-Vini Fantini's Mark Stewart in the individual general classification.
Stewart took the overall win on 11:06:20s while Utsonomiya Blitzen's Oka Atsushi was third (+48s).
Vadim Pronskiy, Anatoliy Budiak, Aiman Cahyadi, Nur Aiman Rosli and Nur Amirull Fakhruddin Mazuki were the other TSG riders that raced in the Tour of Kumano.
Bregnhoj is hoping to go one better at the Tour of Japan (UCI 2.2) on May 18-25.
"To be honest, second place (individual GC) in the Tour of Kumano wasn't what we came for," said Bregnhoj.
"I always want to win the races we go for but we were up against a strong leader (Stewart) from Vini Fantini.
"I had an idea of how I wanted to close the gap in the final stage and tried my best in what was a tough race.
"But overall, to come second is still good I think. I am really looking forward to the Tour of Japan where I hope to be competing for the win again."
The 29-year-old climber was also third in the climbers classification on 15 points. JCL Team Ukyo's Nicolo Garibbo (32 points) was first while Kinan Racing Team's Nathan Earle (18pts) was second.
Bregnhoj had joined TSG at the start of the season. He competed for Portuguese side Sabgal-Anicolor last season.

With several new Malaysian-heritage players joining the squad, Endrick's multilingual background, where he is fluent in Portuguese, Spanish, English, and some Malay, has made him a natural bridge in the dressing room. "We speak a bit of everything to help each other. I try to make the new guys feel comfortable. The staff and players are all walking in the same direction now. That's very important. We think alike, we move as one and we're focused only on the win." While Vietnam will be a tough test, Dos Santos is confident Malaysia can rise to the occasion - especially with the home crowd behind them. "It's 11 vs 11, but we're playing at home. Spain beat France 5-4 in thriller to reach Nations League final
STUTTGART, Germany: Spain's teenage sensation Lamine Yamal inspired his country to a thrilling 5-4 win over France on Thursday to send the holders through to their third successive Nations League final where they will face Iberian neighbours Portugal. The European champions dazzled in the first half of the semi-final at the MHP Arena and raced into a 2-0 lead with fine goals by Nico Williams and Mikel Merino inside 25 minutes. Spain's 17-year-old starlet Yamal then got in on the act to coolly add a third from the penalty spot nine minutes into the second half before his Barcelona teammate Pedri clipped a sublime fourth into the net less than a minute later. The goals continued to flow as France striker Kylian Mbappe also slotted home from the penalty spot near the hour mark before Yamal added Spain's fifth after 67 minutes to cap an exhilarating individual performance. France then mounted an extraordinary comeback as a stunning strike from Rayan Cherki, Dani Vivian's own goal and a Randal Kolo Muani finish caused Spain some late jitters but they held on to book a clash with their Portuguese rivals on Sunday.
