CarPlay Evolves with iOS 26: All the New Features Explained

Miami Heralda day ago

According to Apple, its CarPlay feature is being used worldwide 600 million times a day (except in some American vehicles). It has evolved from being a bonus feature for vehicle-owning iPhone users into an essential feature for car drivers with updates to the system coming with every major iOS rollout.
During its keynote at Apple's annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in Cupertino, California, several updates were revealed for the newly minted iOS 26. An evolved version of the Apple CarPlay was also shown, and here's a brief breakdown of every crucial new feature, including the brand-new CarPlay Ultra.
Chief among the Apple CarPlay updates that go with the iOS 26 is the system-wide refreshed visual design, featuring icons that adapt seamlessly to light and dark modes. Those who receive a call while on the road will see a compact display, allowing users to continue seeing screen content like navigation while taking calls.
Apple also introduced Tapbacks for messages, which are instant emoji-style reactions to messages, presumably so the driver won't have to take their eyes off the road. Pinned conversations are also available for quick access while driving.
Meanwhile, Apple also added widgets to CarPlay, which are designed to be quick, glanceable, and informative without distracting the driver. These widgets also employ live updates to help drivers stay informed of important activities (e.g., a friend's flight status), without losing focus on the tiller.
These Apple CarPlay updates are expected to go live as soon as iOS 26 rolls out to users this fall. The tech company didn't disclose an exact date for the public launch of the new system, but a public beta is expected to roll out in July, according to reports.
Apart from the generic Apple CarPlay, the company also reintroduced CarPlay Ultra, which was announced last month. The new system is touted as the "ultimate" CarPlay experience, offering a unified, consistent interface across all driver-facing screens in the vehicle.
Customizable layout and design of dashboard information are among the key features of CarPlay Ultra, adding vehicle controls such as radio and climate settings directly within CarPlay. Apple said that this is just the beginning, as more features are coming for CarPlay Ultra.
Aston Martin vehicles were the first to get the CarPlay Ultra upgrade, with the DBX and Vantage, among others, getting first dibs on the feature. The tech giant said that it is collaborating with multiple auto brands to bring CarPlay Ultra to more cars, with the Hyundai Group reportedly next in line. Each system looks unique depending on the brand's styling theme.

Elon Musk called Trump before conveying his 'regret' for some of his posts about him, sources say

Elon Musk called President Donald Trump on Monday night, two sources familiar with the conversation told ABC News, after their bitter public feud last week. Musk posted on X early Wednesday morning, "I regret some of my posts about President @realDonaldTrump last week. They went too far." Musk, however, did not not clarify which posts he was referring to in his statement. The posts included slamming Trump for "ingratitude" over the 2024 election, agreeing with a call for Trump's impeachment, knocking the president's "big, beautiful bill" signature legislation, and even claiming Trump was in the Jeffrey Epstein files. MORE: Trump Musk feud explodes with claim president is in Epstein files Musk's call with Trump came after Vice President JD Vance and White House chief of staff Susie Wiles spoke with the billionaire late last week and urged him to end the feud, sources familiar with the call told ABC News. The president had previously told Vance to speak diplomatically when asked about Musk publicly, according to a White House official. The White House declined to comment. White House Hints at Thawing of Trump-Musk Feud

Elon Musk shakes hands with President Donald Trump in the Oval Office of the White House on May 30, 2025, days before a feud erupted between them over social media. Credit - Kevin Dietsch—Getty Images The President of the United States and the world's richest man may be tired of fighting. After Elon Musk wrote Wednesday on X that he regretted some of the things he posted about President Donald Trump the week before, Trump hinted he was ready to move on. It was 'very nice' Musk expressed regret, Trump told the New York Post in a phone interview Wednesday morning. Trump's White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavit echoed that sentiment speaking with reporters Wednesday afternoon. 'The President acknowledged the statement that Elon put out this morning and he is appreciative of it. We are continuing to focus on the work of the American people,' Leavitt said. Last week, Trump publicly threatened to terminate Musk's government contracts as a feud between the two men unfolded on social media spat. Musk's companies SpaceX and Tesla have benefited from tens of billions in subsidies, contracts and tax breaks over the years. But it appears Trump hadn't yet followed through on that threat. Asked if Trump had moved to block government funds going to Musk's companies, Leavitt said, 'No efforts have been made on that as far as I'm aware.' The very public breakup between Trump and Musk began last week over Musk's opposition to the massive tax-and-spending bill that Republicans are trying to push through Congress. The bill is the centerpiece of Trump's domestic agenda. The Congressional Budget Office estimates the current version of the bill would add $2.4 trillion to the deficit over 10 years. As both men attacked one another, Musk claimed Trump wouldn't have won the 2024 election without him and, in what Musk described as 'the really big bomb,' wrote in a post on X—without evidence—that Trump is named in the case files of convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, and suggested that was the reason the full files have not been made public. Musk's message was later deleted. Then early Wednesday, Musk posted on X: 'I regret some of my posts about President @realDonaldTrump last week. They went too far.' Contact us at letters@

Built for America: GE Appliances Completes $180 Million Expansion at Georgia Plant

Latest milestone brings total investment in U.S. manufacturing to $3.5 billion since 2016 LAFAYETTE, Ga., June 11, 2025 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- GE Appliances, a Haier company, today announced the completion of an expanded $180 million investment at its Roper Corporation cooking products plant in LaFayette, Georgia underscoring the company's Built for America commitment to U.S. manufacturing and delivering innovation to American homes. This investment includes an additional $60 million above the previously announced total. Since 2016, GE Appliances – currently rated America's #1 Appliance Company* – has invested over $3.5 billion in new technology and products across its U.S. operations, more than any other competitor. "At GE Appliances, we're investing in American manufacturing – right here in Georgia," said Luther Ingram, executive director and plant manager at Roper Corporation. "By combining advanced automation with the skills and dedication of our local team, we're creating high quality jobs, launching breakthrough products, and ensuring that 'Georgia Made' ranges are being shipped to homes across the country." This investment has enabled the purchase of state-of-the-art equipment, expanded production capacity, and accelerated the launch of innovative new products—most notably the new GE Profile™ induction range, a more accessible and affordable way for consumers to experience induction cooking. The plant's new, high-volume production lines can produce gas, electric, or induction ranges and flex to meet customer demand. New assembly lines feature advanced manufacturing technology, including robotic cells that assemble glass cooktops, program control boards, and rotate units for easier final assembly. Robotics use has more than tripled at Roper, improving efficiency and employee ergonomics. Workforce development programs, including robotics training for employees, are funded in part by a state grant and delivered in partnership with Georgia Northwestern Technical College. The combined investment has added more than 600 new jobs to the plant. "Investments by manufacturers such as GE Appliances at Roper Corporation are a major reason why Georgia boasts a gross regional product (GRP) of $678.2 billion, the 8th highest among U.S. states," said Lloyd Avram, president and CEO for the Georgia Association of Manufacturers. "Georgia's manufacturing sector, employing 426,940 production workers, is responsible for $77 billion of that output." Employment and Investment Impact in Georgia In 2024 alone, GE Appliances spent $235 million with 359 Georgia suppliers, and the company employs 2,650 people in Georgia. GE Appliances' operations, employees and suppliers have a $3 billion impact on Georgia's Gross Domestic Product (GDP), and they have contributed to the creation of 7,500 additional jobs in the state. Opened in 1973, Roper Corporation is the largest employer in Walker County, and one of the largest employers in northwest Georgia. The plant has 15 production lines that produce cooktops, wall ovens and ranges under the Monogram™, Café™, GE Profile™, and GE® brands. The plant is vertically integrated encompassing stamping, paint, enamel, welding, graphics and production – all under one roof. GE Appliances and Roper Corporation are proud participants in the Georgia Department of Economic Development's Georgia Made Program, an initiative that promotes and supports businesses that manufacture products within the state. In 2023, GE Appliances and Roper Corporation celebrated the plant's 50-year legacy of cooking product innovation and dedication to quality and dependability. "Our growth in LaFayette reflects Georgia's vital role in driving U.S. manufacturing forward," Ingram added. "We're not just building appliances—we're building careers, strengthening communities, and powering the future of American industry."
