UCLA-LSU game at CWS suspended due to rain, will resume Tuesday with Tigers leading 5-3

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — The College World Series game between UCLA and LSU was suspended Monday night after steady rain and lightning moved into the Omaha area.
The game will resume on Tuesday morning.
LSU led 5-3 after three innings when the grounds crew rolled out the tarp as storm clouds moved over Charles Schwab Field. Rain had fallen for about three hours when the NCAA announced the game would resume at 11 a.m. EDT.
UCLA scored three runs against Anthony Eyanson in the first inning. The Tigers came back to take the lead in the bottom half with Jared Jones hitting a three-run home run off Landon Stump.
Jones' team-best 21st homer barely cleared the fence in right-center and put LSU in front 4-3. The Tigers added another run in the third.
The UCLA-LSU winner will advance to a bracket final Wednesday. The loser will play Arkansas in an elimination game Tuesday night.
More than 20,000 turned out for Monday night's game, which followed Gage Wood's no-hitter in Arkansas' 3-0 win over Murray State. Among fans cheering for LSU were Pittsburgh Pirates star Paul Skenes and his influencer girlfriend Livvy Dunne. Skenes was the 2023 Most Outstanding Player when LSU won the national championship.

Boulter, who shared with the BBC screenshots of the messages, said she is worried about the toll the widespread abuse takes on younger players. 'At the very start of my career, it's probably something I took very personally... getting comments about the way you look,' she said. 'It becomes more apparent every single time you go on your phone. 'I think it increases in number and it also increases in the level of things that people say. I don't think there's anything off the cards now.' Many other players have previously reported online abuse . In a bid to try to protect athletes from that sort of abuse, the International Tennis Federation (ITF), Women's Tennis Association (WTA), All England Lawn Tennis Club and United States Tennis Association in 2023 launched the Threat Matrix. The program monitors public-facing social accounts for abusive and threatening content on social networks. It also provides support for players. According to statistics provided to the BBC by data science firm Signify, the ITF and WTA, about 8,000 abusive, violent or threatening messages were sent publicly to 458 tennis players through their social media accounts in 2024. Boulter, who received abuse after wins as well as losses, said a lot of it comes from people who have placed bets on her matches. 'As far as death threats, it's just not something you want to be reading straight after an emotional loss,' she said. 'A lot of the time you get it after you win as well.' According to Signify, angry gamblers sent 40% of all detected abuse, with messages clearly related to betting activity because of the timing or content of the abuse. A hurricane watch is in effect for southern Mexico as a depression in the Pacific gains strength
MIAMI (AP) — A hurricane watch was in effect Tuesday for southern Mexico as a tropical depression in the eastern Pacific gained strength. The depression was likely to become a tropical storm later Tuesday and a hurricane Wednesday, the U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami said. It had maximum sustained winds of 35 mph (56 kph) and was moving west-northwest at 12 mph (19 kph), forecasters said. The depression would be named Erick when its winds reach tropical storm strength of 39 mph (63 kph). It was centered about 495 miles (800 kilometers) southeast of Punta Maldonado in Mexico's Guerrero state and was forecast to approach the coast by late Wednesday. A hurricane watch was posted for a stretch of the Pacific coast from Bahia De Huatulco, which is in Oaxaca state, to Punta Maldonado. A hurricane watch means hurricane conditions, with winds exceeding 74 mph (119 kph), are possible in the area within two days. A tropical storm watch was in effect further south from Salina Cruz to Bahia De Huatulco. Heavy rainfall was forecast for parts of Oaxaca and Guerrero with lighter amounts in Chiapas, Tabasco and Veracruz states as well as parts of El Salvador and Guatemala.
