Rajesh Khanna was among the first superstars of Hindi cinema, but while the highs of Khanna's career were monumental, his lows were equally steep. Gautam Chintamani's biography Dark Star: The Loneliness of Being Rajesh Khanna mentions one such incident from the twilight of his career when the actor faced financial constraints. At that time, it was Salman Khan's younger brother Sohail Khan who expressed interest in buying Khanna's iconic bungalow, Aashirwad.
As rumours and speculation about Rajesh Khanna's financial ruin began to circulate, talk also began about the possibility of the actor selling Aashirwad. 'For a better part of the early years of the first decade of the new millennium, troubled clouds had taken over almost every small pocket of sunshine in Khanna's life. His financial state went from bad to worse and there were murmurs that he was finally on the lookout to sell Aashirwad,' an excerpt from the book reads. The book also recounts how a notice from the income tax department — demanding unpaid dues of 'over a crore and a half rupees' — further damaged Khanna's public image and added credibility to the rumours.
During this time, screenwriter Rumi Jaffery received a call from Salman Khan, expressing Sohail Khan's desire to purchase Aashirwad. To convince Rajesh Khanna to let go of the bungalow, the Khan family extended several lucrative offers. Along with offering to pay any amount for the property, Salman and his family also agreed to settle Khanna's outstanding income tax dues. On top of that, Salman even offered to act in a Rajesh Khanna production free of cost.
Rumi Jaffery, acting as the messenger, took all these offers and approached Rajesh Khanna. However, the veteran actor's reaction was far from welcoming. The book recounts Khanna's response to Rumi's proposal. The screenwriter recalled in the book, 'When Khanna finally spoke, he asked him how he could even think of suggesting such a thing and accused him of stabbing him in his back. 'Kakaji said, 'I consider you a son-in-law aur tu mera ghar bikwana chahta hai… Sadak par lana chahta hai!' I had a tough time explaining that I was merely a postman delivering Sohail Khan's message.''
For Rajesh Khanna, Aashirwad was more than just a bungalow—it was a symbol of his superstardom and legacy. He believed it held emotional value not just for him, but also for his fans. The book mentions, 'He would often be quoted saying, 'A king is a king whether on throne or in exile.'' He considered Aashirwad his legacy. 'He even mused that he would die some day but Aashirwad would live on forever; and till such time, the world would never forget Rajesh Khanna,' the book notes. Years later, when Rajesh met Sohail Khan, he scolded him for trying to 'buy him out' through Jaffery.
Rajesh Khanna continued living in Aashirwad alone, as he and his wife Dimple Kapadia were living separately. He breathed his last in 2011 in the beloved bungalow. Later, an industrialist bought the property and demolished it to make way for a high-rise building.

Suniel Shetty says son Ahan was targeted as some in Bollywood are angry with him: ‘Due to Border 2, he now has friends like Varun Dhawan and Diljit Dosanjh'

Suniel Shetty had earlier alleged that his son Ahan Shetty was targeted and ousted from various films after he signed Border 2. The original cult classic 1997 film featured Suniel in a key role, and now his son Ahan Shetty will also play a prominent role in Border 2. During a recent interaction, Suniel opened up about the issue and shared that some people in Bollywood might be upset with him and are taking it out on Ahan. Speaking to Instant Bollywood, Suniel Shetty was asked how people in the industry could remove Ahan from films despite him being his son. He responded, saying, 'That doesn't matter. Maybe I had done a mistake, and they are angry with me, and they want to take it out on somebody else. You can't change destiny. Ahan is very much a part of Border 2, and it is because of this film that he has gained so much appreciation, and he got friends like Varun Dhawan and Diljit Dosanjh. They love him like a younger brother.' When asked if he is protective of his son because he has seen various pitfalls in the industry, he said, 'In anything, you will have to do hard work. There are no shortcuts, and Ahan's first film did well during the pandemic and the film did business of Rs 35-40 crores and had an opening of Rs 4-5 crore even during the pandemic. Fingers crossed, I hope Border 2 crosses Rs 500 crore, and I pray Ahan is also appreciated along with Sunny Deol, Varun, and Diljit.' Suniel also commented on debutant Ahaan Panday's film Saiyaara's success and how the film has become a turning point in the Hindi film industry. He said, 'It is unbelievable. There is no substitute to hard work, and that is Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda's story. Now it is a big responsibility because they have given a new generation a chance, and maybe this is the turning point for the industry where producers might think that youngsters should get more opportunities.' Earlier, during an interaction with Zoom, Suniel had shared that his son faced backlash after he signed Border 2 over other projects. He said, 'Ahan let go of many things for this film. A lot of opportunities slipped out of his hands due to egos. He was removed from films and then blamed. Rumours were spread that he comes with expensive bodyguards, and paid articles were published.' He added, 'Stories were made up because Ahan wanted to do Border, while others wanted their own films to be made. Everything was manipulated.'

Anupamaa vs Kyunki Saas Bhi Season 2: Ektaa Kapoor declares who should be number 1, ‘Coming in to tell our story'

Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, an iconic show on Indian television, is all set to return with a fresh reboot. Ektaa Kapoor, the producer of the TV serial, responded to comparisons with Anupamaa, starring Rupali Ganguly. Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi is one of India's most successful TV dramas. It was produced by Ektaa's company, Balaji Telefilms. As of July 24, Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, Anupamaa and Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah are leading the Hindi TV charts with the highest Television Rating Points (TRPs) of 2.1 each among viewers aged 15–50. Laughter Chefs Unlimited Entertainment also made it to the top five with a TRP of 1.8. When asked if women support each other more in the industry now than before, Ektaa Kapoor shared her thoughts on a recent issue. According to her, people are comparing Anupamaa with Kyunki. Ektaa feels it is unfair and in bad taste. 'She (Ganguly) is such a big star. Anupamaa, the show, the creator Rajan (Shahi) has done what nobody else could do in the last seven years. They will continue to be number 1. They should continue to be number 1," Kapoor told Brut. According to the Bollywood producer, her show has its own story to tell. "We are coming in for our purpose, to tell our story. These unfair comparisons between lead characters and lead shows are so unnecessary. Pitting women against each other, pitting content against each other is uncalled for,' she added. Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi returns 17 years after the original ended. Season 2 marks its 25th anniversary. Smriti Irani and Amar Upadhyay are back as Tulsi and Mihir Virani. The new season will start airing from July 29 at 10.30 PM on Star Plus. The Many Nuances of Hindi

Bringing together the diverse dimensions of the Hindi language's creativity and nuance on a single stage, Hindwi Utsav — an annual festival by the Rekhta Foundation — returned for its fifth edition at Delhi's Siri Fort Auditorium on Sunday. A vibrant celebration of Hindi literature, music, and theatre, the festival continues to strengthen its reputation as a key cultural event for lovers and creators of the language. 'The festival has grown from a celebration of Hindi literature into a vibrant annual tradition for the community of Hindi literature lovers, creators, and enthusiasts. With each passing year, it has become more inclusive, more ambitious in scale and reach, and a stronger cultural force,' said Sanjiv Saraf, founder of the Rekhta Foundation. This year's edition showcased a rich line-up of poets, writers, musicians, and theatre artists. The evening opened with a Kavitayi (poetry reading), featuring both senior and emerging voices such as Ashok Vajpeyi, Uday Prakash, and R. Chetankranti, who brought contemporary sensibilities to life through their words.
