The match Wednesday between Al-Ahly Tripoli and Al-Ittihad was suspended in the 39th minute when Al-Ahli substitutes and fans stormed the pitch in protest of Al-Ittihad players' celebration of their opening goal.
Al-Ittihad's bus was set on fire, the club said in a statement.
Players and soccer officials fled the stadium amid a fan disturbance outside the facility. Footage circuited online showed clashes between fans and security forces in and around the stadium.
Al-Ahly blamed what they called a 'provocative act' by one of Al-Ittihad players for the disturbance.
They said in a statement that security forces used 'excessive force and live fire' against fans at the club's headquarters.
Local media reported that Portuguese referee Fábio José Costa was injured.

Tunisia trade union defiant after president backs ‘corruption' claims
TUNIS: The head of a powerful Tunisian trade union confederation called on Monday to defend the group after protesters backed by President Kais Saied levelled harsh accusations against it. The protest last week, which the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT) said included 'an attempted attack' on its headquarters by Saied's supporters, added to concerns voiced by rights groups over shrinking freedoms ever since the president staged a power grab in 2021. 'We will not be silenced,' UGTT chief Noureddine Taboubi told an emergency meeting of the union's leadership, called in response to Thursday's rally that featured accusations of 'corruption' and of being 'a mafia.' 'Anyone with a case should seek legal redress — we are not above the law,' said Taboubi, vowing to defend the organization's 'dignity and honor.' The UGTT earned the Nobel Peace Prize in 2015 for its part in supporting the North African country's democratic transition following the Arab Spring revolution. President Saied has expressed his support for the dozens of protesters who had gathered outside the UGTT headquarters in Tunis, promising in a video statement to ensure 'accountability' for the UGTT's alleged misconduct. He denied the demonstrators were engaged in any violence. Several leading rights groups have expressed their support for the UGTT, with the Tunisian Forum for Economic and Social Rights saying trade unions have become victims of smear campaigns. Since Saied seized full powers in July 2021 in what critics have called a 'coup,' local and international rights groups have denounced a democratic backsliding and the arrests of dozens of political opponents, journalist, lawyers and civil society figures.

RIYADH: Football legend and former Barcelona player Gerard Pique is bringing Kings League, the game that revolutionized online football gaming, to the Middle East and North Africa region, with Saudi Arabia at its heart. For the latest updates, follow us @ArabNewsSport The Spanish defender inaugurated Kings League MENA last night as part of the ongoing Esports World Cup, where the new team presidents from the region were also announced. Pique started Kings League in Spain in 2023, and after a successful first launch has since expanded to other leagues worldwide including Italy, Brazil, Japan, France, Germany, Hispanic America, and the US. On how he envisions the Kings League gaming community to look like in the MENA region, Pique told Arab News: 'Very young, very motivated, very committed to the product and the project. 'I'm sure that there will be a lot of intensity, a lot of clashes (between streamer fans), this is what we want. 'We want them to care and want to win, and that they dedicate everything they have to winning.' The unconventional seven-a-side football game was designed with younger audiences in mind, adding more creativity and free reign with secret weapons or 'golden cards,' unlimited substitutions, sin bins, and penalty shoot-outs after every draw. Kings League was also created in a way that brings together fans with their most beloved content creators and streamers taking the role of team presidents in each region. Fans and Family Honor 'Palestinian Pele' Killed in Gaza
The "Pele" of Palestinian soccer hoped to keep scoring goals until he was 50. An Israeli tank shell dashed that dream a decade early, his family said, killing Suleiman al-Obeid as he queued in southern Gaza this week to collect food. Obeid's widow Doaa al-Obeid now clutches the blue-and-white number 10 shorts he wore for his Gaza club, Al-Shati, one of the only mementos she has of her late husband, as she and her five children mourn the revered 41-year-old striker. "This is the most precious thing left behind by him," she said, Reuters reported. The family have few other belongings of Obeid, whose home was destroyed in a bombardment earlier this year. They now live in a tent among the ruins of a neighborhood of Gaza City. Obeid, likened by fans to Brazilian great Pele for his skills and goalscoring, hit headlines this week after Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah criticized a tribute to Obeid by Europe's governing body UEFA that did not mention the cause of death. "Can you tell us how he died, where, and why?" wrote Salah. The Palestinian Football Association said Obeid was killed in an attack by the Israeli military in southern Gaza while waiting to collect aid at a distribution point. His family said it was a tank shell that killed him. The Israeli military did not immediately respond to a request for comment and has not publicly commented on Obeid's death.
