US Teacher Gets 30 Years In Jail For Sexual Abuse Of 2 Minor Students
Prosecutors said Ma groomed the 12-year-old boy over 10 months, sending him love letters and suggestive texts, which prompted the boy's mother to alert authorities. She sexually assaulted him in her classroom over three months while his parents believed he was in an after-school basketball program. They also alleged that years earlier, Ma groomed an 11-year-old boy. She had groomed young boys with "gifts, food and special attention and even completed their homework for them," the district attorney's office said.
The teacher pleaded guilty in February to two counts of forcible lewd acts on a child, one count of lewd acts on a child and one count of possessing child sexual abuse material, the San Diego County District Attorney's Office said in a news release.
"This defendant violated the trust she had with her students in the most extreme and traumatic way possible, and her actions are despicable. Her victims will have to deal with a lifetime of negative effects, and her 30-year sentence is appropriate," District Attorney Summer Stephan said.
"No child deserves what this defendant did, and I hope this sentence brings a measure of justice to the victims, their families and the community that was left reeling from this defendant's crimes," Mr Stephan added.
At her sentencing, Ma expressed remorse, stating she was "deeply ashamed" and apologised for taking away the children's innocence, acknowledging the harm her actions had caused.
"I abused my authority, I exerted my power and control over them, and I deceived them. Boys this age should be playing outside, feeling carefree … I ripped away their childhood. Instead of following the path of what a teacher should be, I let my selfishness override the boys' best interests. I just pray for an extra hand of protection and strength for all of those I've hurt. I'm so sorry," Ma said while handcuffed and crying in court.
Ma, a former San Diego County "Teacher of the Year" for 2022-2023, taught fifth- and sixth-graders at Lincoln Acres Elementary School in National City before facing controversy.

Sebi extends deadline till December for Karvy investors to file claims
Investors have been suggested to take note of the deadline and are urged to file their claims before the deadline, if not lodged already, Sebi said in its statement Press Trust of India New Delhi Markets regulator Sebi on Thursday extended the deadline till December for investors of defaulted broker Karvy Stock Broking Ltd (KSBL) to file their claims. KSBL was declared a defaulter by the National Stock Exchange (NSE) on November 23, 2020. Following this, investors were invited to submit claims against the broker, with the final date for submission set as June 2, 2025. Now, the regulator has "decided to extend the deadline till December 31, 2025". Investors have been suggested to take note of the deadline and are urged to file their claims before the deadline, if not lodged already, Sebi said in its statement. For assistance, investors can reach out to NSE by calling its toll-free number 1800 266 0050 or by e-mailing at defaultisc@ it added. In April 2023, Sebi barred KSBL and its CMD C Parthasarathy from the securities market for seven years and also imposed a penalty of Rs 21 crore on them for misappropriating clients' funds by misusing the Power of Attorney given to the broker. This action emanated from a massive asset mobilisation drive by KSBL, in which it raised huge funds from financial institutions. The broker did so by pledging clients' securities -- secured through the Power of Attorney granted to KSBL -- with promises of paying interest. However, instead of fulfilling these commitments, the funds were misappropriated and diverted to entities connected with KSBL, ultimately leading to defaults in settling client securities and funds, in violation of regulatory norms. Mithi scam: Contractor held for making fake MoUs, receiving ₹26.92 cr from BMC against bogus bills
Mumbai, A 50-year-old contractor has been arrested in connection with the ₹65-crore Mithi river desilting scam for allegedly creating fake MoUs and receiving ₹26.92 crore through bogus bills, an official said on Thursday. Mithi scam: Contractor held for making fake MoUs, receiving ₹ 26.92 cr from BMC against bogus bills One of the MoUs presented by the accused, Shershing Rathod, had the 'signature' of a dead person, the official said. The Economic Offences Wing of the city police took Rathod into custody on Wednesday after his role in the alleged irregularities came to the fore. Rathod, who was nabbed from Borivali in the western suburbs, will be produced before the court later in the day, the official said. This is the third arrest in the alleged scam. Earlier, EOW had arrested middleman Ketan Kadam and Jai Joshi in connection with the case. Police said Rathod had obtained a contract from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation in 2021-22 to remove silt from Mithi. He created Memoranda of Understanding with the land owners to dispose of the silt. However, the documents were found to be fake. Rathod allegedly even created fake signatures to show a deceased person as a landlord, the official said. Besides, he signed an MoU with middleman Kadam to lease slit pusher machines and multipurpose amphibious pontoon machines of Matprop company and submitted the document to the BMC to bag the contract. Rathod also submitted a list of dumpers to the BMC, claiming that the vehicles were used to ferry silt from Mithi. However, he collected debris from various places and transported it, passing off the material as silt from the river, said the official, who probed the case. Despite not removing the sediment, the accused submitted fake bills and received ₹29.62 crore from the BMC by fraud, the official said. Earlier, the agency had also questioned Bollywood actor Dino Morea and his brother over the Mithi desilting matter. The Mumbai police had in May registered a case against 13 people, including contractors and civic officials, for an alleged ₹65.54 crore scam in the tenders awarded from 2017-2023 for the desilting of Mithi, which flows through Mumbai and acts as a stormwater drainage channel for the metro city.
