Holding a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Leeds, UK, Alawi brings over two decades of diverse leadership experience across the government and private sectors, with a strong track record in asset management, corporate transformation and commercial performance.
He has held senior roles with Shell International in the Netherlands, led flagship-cost efficiency initiatives for Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), and served as a member of the Executive leadership team at the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, where he headed a unit responsible for an RO1bn strategic project.

SUHAR: The student company "Java Fuel" at the University of Technology and Applied Sciences in Suhar, Al Batinah North Governorate, has successfully developed an innovative project in sustainable energy by converting coffee waste into clean biodiesel using advanced artificial intelligence technologies. Tarteel bint Khalid al Naabiyah explained that the project offers an eco-friendly product that serves industrial sectors and government institutions concerned with environmental fields, presenting both an economic and environmental solution. The project targets the Omani and Gulf markets amid growing demand for low-emission fuel alternatives. She added that the project relies on collecting coffee waste from cafés and converting it into biofuel — a step that helps reduce waste and supports Oman's efforts to achieve the goals of "Oman Vision 2040" in clean energy. She emphasised that the project contributes to reducing carbon emissions and preserving the environment by providing a sustainable energy source that minimises café waste and promotes biofuel use, thereby advancing environmentally and economically sustainable development. She noted that the company participated in the "Injaz Oman Student Companies Exhibition 2025" and was shortlisted among 60 student companies to the second phase, which included 41 companies. The project received significant engagement from participants, and the company won third place in the Cultural Innovation Competition in Al Musannah in the field of innovation and entrepreneurship. She further stated that the company plans to participate in exhibitions and events organised by universities, colleges and government and private institutions to promote and develop the project based on feedback from specialists and visitors, while also expanding its network with supporters and investors.

Next season,14 clubs to play in Omantel League
MUSCAT, JULY 2 The Oman Football Association (OFA) has announced its decision to increase the number of clubs participating in the Omantel League from 12 to 14 teams, starting from the 2025–2026 season. This step aims to enhance the most prominent football competition in the Sultanate of Oman and open the door for more clubs to compete at the highest level, thereby contributing to the technical and organisational development of Omani football. The Association also decided to organise the First Division League and the Olympic League at the governorate level, as part of a broader vision to promote sports decentralisation, expand the base of players and teams, and enable talents across various wilayats to emerge within a competitive environment closer to their local communities. The Association clarified that the decision to increase the number of clubs is the result of a series of urgent meetings and studies conducted by the Board of Directors. The findings indicated that increasing the number of teams would lead to more matches per season, thereby boosting fan attendance and creating more opportunities for competition and technical development for both clubs and players. Based on this decision, the Association has resolved to retain Sur and Ibri clubs in the Omantel League for the upcoming season, despite their results warranting relegation to the First Division. However, their continuation is contingent upon meeting technical and administrative requirements, most importantly obtaining the professional league license issued by the Association after reviewing each club's licensing file. If one or both clubs fail to meet these conditions, the opportunity will be given to the highest-ranked teams in the First Division, provided they fulfill the same requirements. This decision came during a meeting of the Board of Directors held on Tuesday at the Association's headquarters, chaired by Sayyid Sulaiman bin Hamood al Busaidy Chairman of OFA, and attended by the vice-president, board members and the secretary-general. The meeting included discussions on several key matters, most notably the financial situation of the Association, reviewing the general budget, cost-reduction strategies and plans to increase revenue. The Board also discussed activating the work of the standing committees and restructuring them in line with the upcoming phase's requirements. Several technical and administrative committee heads were approved and appointed. The national senior team was also a focal point of the meeting. The Board reviewed the upcoming preparation plan, especially for the intercontinental play-off qualifying for the 2026 Fifa World Cup, and preparations for the West Asian Football Federation friendly tournament, which is considered a crucial opportunity for competition and readiness. Several internal and external training camps are also scheduled for the coming period. To support the sustainability of football activity, the Board announced its intention to hold a series of meetings with clubs that had suspended their senior team activities in recent seasons. These meetings aim to explore ways to support and gradually reintegrate them, offering appropriate facilitations within available capacities, particularly on technical and organisational fronts. At the conclusion of the meeting, the Board expressed its deep appreciation for the efforts of the previous board, commending their role in maintaining the Association's stability during challenging times. Suhar – In a project blending sustainability with innovation, Java Fuel, a student-led company at University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS) in Suhar, has developed a clean biodiesel derived from coffee waste. The project utilises advanced technologies supported by artificial intelligence, offering a promising step towards greener energy solutions. Team member Tartil bint Khalid al Naabi explained that Java Fuel produces an eco-friendly fuel alternative that addresses both environmental and economic challenges. The company aims to serve the Omani and wider Gulf markets in responding to the growing demand for low-emission fuels. 'Our process involves collecting coffee beans waste from local cafés and transforming these into biodiesel,' Tartil informed. 'It's a dual-impact solution – reducing waste while contributing to clean energy goals aligned with Oman Vision 2040.' Tartil added that the project plays a crucial role in reducing carbon emissions and supporting sustainable development by promoting the use of energy derived from everyday waste. The team's innovation gained recognition at the 2025 Injaz Oman Student Companies Exhibition where Java Fuel was selected among the top 41 companies from an initial pool of 60. The company also earned the third place at the Cultural Innovation Competition held in Musannah in the category of innovation and entrepreneurship.
