Shakira concert sparks Measles scare—Here's everything that happened

Al Bawaba23-05-2025
ALBAWABA - Measles alert issued after Shakira 's MetLife concert in New Jersey.
An urgent health warning has been issued to Shakira concertgoers in New Jersey after officials claim they may have been exposed to measles.
Anyone who attended Shakira 's May 15 performance at MetLife Stadium may have been exposed to the sickness that has been sweeping the United States in recent months, according to a warning released by the New Jersey Health Department on Tuesday.
The possible exposure was "linked to a recently discovered case of measles in a non-NJ resident who attended a concert in NJ while infectious," according to officials.

The capacity of the MetLife Stadium is 82,500.
Although there are currently no verified cases linked to the concert, officials cautioned that symptoms could appear in affected individuals as late as June 6.
The CDC reported that 1,024 measles cases had been diagnosed in 31 U.S. states as of last week.
The highly contagious sickness has now claimed the lives of three people.
Shakira concertgoers were advised by the NJDOH to be cautious of any potential measles symptoms, which include a high fever, cough, runny nose, watery red eyes, and a rash that typically develops three to five days after symptoms start.
Additionally, they advised people to make sure their measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccinations are current.
The outbreak panic coincides with concerns about Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s personal opinions regarding vaccines and how he handled the recent outbreak.
During the House Appropriations Committee hearing last week, he was interrogated by Democratic lawmakers about his past vaccine-related assertions, such as the falsehood that the MMR vaccine contained "aborted fetus debris," and his choice to cut funding for vaccine programs.
"My opinions about vaccines are irrelevant," Mark Pocan said at the hearing, adding, "I don't think people should be taking medical advice from me." Pocan also stated that he would "probably" vaccinate his children against measles today, but he continued to back down on the issue.
Measles may be lethal and has now crossed the U.S. border into Canada and Mexico.
It can cause serious health problems, including pneumonia and encephalitis, especially in young children who have not had vaccinations. It can also cause miscarriages in pregnant women, early birth, or low-birth-weight babies.
Those who have never had measles or who have not had all recommended vaccinations are the most vulnerable.
Experts concur that receiving the MMR vaccine is the safest and most efficient method of preventing measles.

Justin Timberlake reveals Lyme disease diagnosis in emotional post

ALBAWABA - The famous singer Justin Timberlake revealed he has Lyme disease. The singer-songwriter and actor Justin Timberlake told his fans about the news in an Instagram post on Thursday that was about the end of his two-year Forget Tomorrow World Tour. "As many of you know, I'm a pretty private person. But as I'm reflecting on the tour and festival tour -- I want to tell you a little bit about what's going on with me," Timberlake wrote. The singer and his wife, Jessica Biel, have two sons together. He wrote that he was hesitant to tell his fans about his diagnosis but chose to do so in order to be more honest with them. "If you've experienced this disease or know someone who has -- then you're aware: living with this can be relentlessly debilitating, both mentally and physically," Timberlake wrote. "When I first got the diagnosis I was shocked for sure. But, at least I could understand why I would be onstage and in a massive amount of nerve pain or, just feeling crazy fatigue or sickness. I was faced with a personal decision. Stop touring? Or, keep going and figure it out. I decided the joy that performing brings me far outweighs the fleeting stress my body was feeling. I'm so glad I kept going." The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say that Lyme disease is an infectious disease spread by ticks that can hurt the joints, heart, and nervous system if it is not treated. A course of antibiotics for 10 to 14 days can easily treat most cases of Lyme disease. But in some cases, long-lasting symptoms like tiredness, body aches, and trouble focusing or remembering things may still be there after treatment. People with this syndrome are sometimes called Post-Treatment Lyme Disease Syndrome, or PTLDS. US singer Justin Timberlake (Photo by Alejandro Gonzalez / AFP) Justin Timberlake, 44, didn't say anything else about his diagnosis or treatment. The ex-member of *NSYNC started his Forget Tomorrow World Tour in April. On Wednesday, he played his last show in Turkey. It was just hours before Timberlake was supposed to perform at his last U.S. show of the tour in February. He told fans on social media that he was sick with the flu. Recently, Timberlake got some bad feedback from fans in Europe during the European part of his tour. They said he didn't sing enough of his songs live and instead asked the crowd to sing the lyrics. Justin Timberlake wrote on social media that he was glad he kept going with his tour even though it was hard for his health when he made his Lyme disease discovery public. "Not only did I prove my mental tenacity to myself, but I now have so many special moments with all of you that I will never forget," he said. "I didn't want to talk about this because I was taught to keep things like this between two people." But I'm trying to be more open about my problems so they aren't taken the wrong way. What you need to know about Lyme disease Lyme disease is the most common vector-borne disease in the U.S., and Timberlake is not the only one who has to deal with it. Amy Schumer, Shania Twain, Justin Bieber, and Alexis Ohanian, co-founder of Reddit, are some other famous people who have talked about their problems with the disease. People get the disease from tick bites, which are caused by the bacteria Borrelia burgdorferi. It's most likely to happen in late spring, summer, and fall. Most of the time, the tick has to be on the skin for at least 24 hours before the bacteria can be passed on. As early as three days after being bitten by a tick, you may start to feel sick with fever, headaches, and tiredness.

Peruvian clinic fined after leaking Shakira's medical records

A private clinic in Peru has been hit with a USD 190,000 fine after the unauthorized release of pop icon Shakira's medical information earlier this year, health authorities confirmed on Wednesday. The Grammy-winning Colombian singer was briefly hospitalized in February while in Lima for her 'Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran' world tour, her first global tour in seven years. Shakira, 48, was treated for an unspecified abdominal condition that forced her to cancel a scheduled performance. Just two days later, she returned to the stage. However, what followed her hospitalization sparked backlash across social media: her confidential medical report surfaced online, prompting both fan outrage and a formal investigation. The Delgado Auna clinic, where the singer received treatment, acknowledged the breach at the time, calling it 'a serious ethical breach of our code of conduct and regulations governing personal data processing.' Peru's health authorities have now concluded their inquiry and levied a fine of roughly USD 190,000 against the facility for violating patient privacy laws.
