Title: Tough day for Red Bull
Content: Max Verstappen had to dump an unwanted guest from his cockpit yesterday while he was out on track in second practice. The offending item? A towel. The stewards investigated the incident but decided to take no further action.
"It was still in the car when I went out so instead of it maybe potentially getting in between my feet, which is the dangerous part," said Verstappen. "I drove off line and got rid of it in the safest way possible. I think the stewards understand that."
As for Red Bull's performance yesterday, the four-time world champion said "nothing really worked". Verstappen finished 14th on the timehseets while his team-mate Yuki Tsunoda ended his second hour in ninth. But both drivers highlighted the same issues throughout the hour.
"Today was very tough. Just really a low-grip feeling and not really a balance in the car," added Verstappen.

Title: 'No pain' in FP2 for injured Alonso
Content: Fernando Alonso has been on the treatment table after the Belgian Grand Prix.
The 44-year-old Spaniard missed yesterday's opening hour of track running because of a back injury, with reserve driver Felipe Drugovich stepping in to replace him at Aston Martin.
Alonso was back in the car for second practice, ending the session in fifth place, one spot behind his team-mate Lance Stroll in fourth.
When asked about the pain, Alonso said: 'It's the same as yesterday. It's going to be like this the whole weekend.
'I have a small injury on my muscle on the back in the lumbar area and I needed some rest, but the summer break is coming, so it's another two days of managing the comfort in the seat.
'Yesterday, we found different solutions with pads and other things that are working fine, so today, I had no pain in FP2, so that is positive.'

Title: 'Things to tidy up' for Piastri
Content: Andrew BensonBBC F1 correspondent at the Hungaroring
Norris' advantage in the first session was 0.019 seconds and although the gap between himself and Oscar Piastri was bigger in the later hour - 0.291secs - neither driver had an ideal run. Norris had to abort his first flying lap after a mistake at Turn Two, while Piastri had heavy traffic on his fastest.
Norris then had a narrow escape at the final corner when he got his outside front wheel on the grass turning in, and ran wide into the run-off area.
Piastri said: "The performance has been very good. Some things to tidy up. It wasn't the smoothest of P2s but excited for the rest of the weekend."

Title: Norris tops Friday practice
Content: Lando Norris was quickest in both practice sessions at the Hungaroring yesterday, leading the timesheets from McLaren team-mate Oscar Piastri and Ferrari's Charles Leclerc.
Norris, who is 16 points behind Piastri in the drivers' championship after the Australian took victory in Belgium last weekend, thought the car felt "pretty good" from the first laps.
"The second session was a bit more messy, just a few more mistakes, but that's all part of practice and trying to find the limit in different areas," he said.
"I know what I want from the car but it might be a bit harder trying to get it."

Title: Hungary: Qualifying day
Content: Lorraine McKennaBBC Sport Journalist
Hello, folks. Who is up to the challenge of putting their car on pole position this afternoon? If Friday's practice sessions were a glimpse into the future, the fight for the front row will be an all-McLaren showdown, with Charles Leclerc's Ferrari completing the post-qualifying interview trio.
Third practice gets under way at 11:30 BST.
The temperatures are warm in Budapest today and the window for qualifying, which starts at 3pm UK time (4pm local) is dry with some cloud.

Lando Norris shares kiss with on-off model girlfriend Margarida Corceiro following Hungarian Grand Prix win - a day after going public again

Lando Norris delivered a masterclass at the Hungaroring, holding off team-mate Oscar Piastri to claim victory at the Hungarian Grand Prix. The Brit notched his fifth win of the 2025 season and a vital haul as he closed the championship gap to just nine points going into the summer break. Norris celebrated the result by planting a celebratory kiss on his long-time on-and-off girlfriend Margarida Corceiro, as the Portuguese model looked on proudly in parc ferme after the race. After months away from the public eye, the pair returned to the paddock again on Saturday, turning up together before qualifying. Norris and Margarida attended events together throughout much of 2024 before reports claimed that the pair had ended their short-term relationship. Speculation emerged that the pair were dating again after they were spotted together at various public events over the last year including the Monte Carlo Masters in April 2024. Margarida sat alongside Norris' mum, Cisca Wauman, to cheer on her other half to victory at the Monaco Grand Prix back this May, causing dating rumours to heat up again. Margarida, 22 hails from Santarem in Portugal and has amassed a colossal social media following, boasting over two million Instagram followers and more than 800,000 fans on TikTok. As an actress, she has appeared in Portuguese television dramas and is regularly featured in campaigns, including stints for Intimissimi and Alo Yoga. Margarida was a contestant in the country's version of Dancing with the Stars back in 2020. She also co-founded the eco-conscious swimwear brand Missus and has graced the pages of Vogue Portugal. Previously romantically linked with Portuguese footballer Joao Felix from 2019 to 2023, Margarida began dating Norris in May 2023, shortly after his split from Portuguese model Luisinha Oliveira. They had dated for a similar timeframe as Norris and Margarida before ending their romantic association, with the McLaren main man at the time posted a heartfelt break-up message on social media. 'After time and consideration, Luisa and myself have mutually decided to end our romantic relationship but remain good friends,' Norris posted at the time of his split from Luisinha. In August 2024, at the time of the Dutch Grand Prix, Norris appeared to confirm that he was single. When asked if he wanted a dog he said cooly: 'I don't have time for a dog. If I do, I need a girlfriend, I don't have one.' But now, the couple have settled their difference and are back on. On track, Norris still sits second in the Drivers' Championship with 250 points, just 16 points adrift of his team-mate Oscar Piastri as the season hits mid-point. Meanwhile, McLaren are runaway leaders in the Constructors' Championship, leading Ferrari in second by 268 points as they seek back-to-back titles.

Man United chief executive Omar Berrada insists the club are 'working around the clock' to strengthen the squad amid interest in £70m-rated Benjamin Sesko

Manchester United chief executive Omar Berrada says the club are 'working around the clock' to strengthen the squad before the transfer window closes. United have spent close to £140million this summer on Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon. They want to bring in a new striker as talks continue over RB Leipzig centre-forward Benjamin Sesko, with a central midfielder and goalkeeper the other possibilities. Speaking before United's final US tour game against Everton in Atlanta, Berrada said: 'We have to do a lot of multi-tasking. We have a team back home led by (director of football) Jason (Wilcox), the recruitment team, that is working around the clock to ensure that we continue to find opportunities to strengthen our squad. 'There are lots of late calls and early morning meetings to make sure that we stay on top of it. 'What we want to do is to win and to start winning titles as soon as possible. Of course, adding players helps. We have seen the arrival of Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon. 'They have adapted really well. We are going to see Bryan play for the first time (in Atlanta), Matheus has already shown his quality and Diego has shown that he is adapting very quickly having just come from Paraguay, so all of the signs are positive and we are cautiously optimistic. We hope we are going to have a great season.' Amorim revealed over the weekend that he has installed a six-player leadership team to keep discipline among the squad, and Berrada underlined the importance of maintaining high standards. 'The mood has been very good,' he added. 'The culture, the standards, the values, we are trying to ensure that we create a team spirit that allows the players to compete at the highest level. We have very high standards, Ruben is very clear about that and so is Jason Wilcox. It is something we want to see with the players, with the staff, with everyone. 'It is about raising standards and being very disciplined, and the way you approach the application of those standards. We have to make sure that everybody abides by them, that everybody believes in them and that nobody falls out of line. It is really important for us to create that sense of togetherness around a single idea.'

Dina Asher-Smith set sights on World Championship success in Tokyo after defending British title in photo finish

Dina Asher-Smith tuned up for Tokyo by defending her British 200 metres title — but only after a dramatic photo finish. The 29-year-old set a UK Athletics Championships record of 22.14sec to win in Birmingham on Sunday and seal her spot at next month's World Championships in Japan. However, Asher-Smith was pushed all the way by Amy Hunt, who finished fast to clock the same time as her more established team-mate and set a huge personal best. 'It was an excellent race,' said Asher-Smith, who is back training in London after a brief stint in Texas. 'Neither of us knew who had won so we needed that photo finish. But I am happy to come here and run a fantastic time.' Asher-Smith finished fourth in the 200m at last summer's Paris Olympics, but her time yesterday would have been good enough for bronze. Asked whether she can win a second world 200m title next month, six years after her only global gold in Doha, she said: 'I would love that. I am in great shape. 'That was a great run from me and there are a few things in there I can tweak, so I am happy.' Hunt finished second ahead of Daryll Neita — who was fifth at last year's Olympics — and moves above her to third in the all-time British rankings. 'I couldn't quite get the dip on the line but that was a serious time,' said the 23-year-old, who won the 100m on Saturday. 'I have moved up to third on the UK all-time, nearly overtaking Kathy Cook. It is really exciting to be taking the step up. Going to Tokyo and being a dark horse is super exciting.' In the men's 200m, Zharnel Hughes also broke the championship record as he stormed home in 19.90sec to complete a UK sprint double after his 100m win on Saturday. 'I'm excited to see what I can do in Tokyo,' said Britain's fastest man. 'I can go a lot faster. My coach will get me much sharper. There's still over a month to go.' Olympic 1500m bronze medallist Georgia Hunter Bell won the women's 800m yesterday, beating Jemma Reekie in a time of 1min 59.53sec. She must now decide whether to run both the 800m — which would put her up against her training partner Keely Hodgkinson — and 1500m in Tokyo, or focus on only one of the events. 'How cool would it be to follow in the footsteps of the great Britons like Seb Coe, Kelly Holmes and Steve Cram who doubled up and were successful?' said Hunter Bell. 'It's hard to decide.' Josh Kerr, who was already assured of his place in Tokyo as the world 1500m champion, stepped up in distance yesterday to win the men's 5,000m.
