Umno must regain dominance in next GE
BAGAN DATUK: Umno must regain its dominance by securing the highest number of parliamentary seats among all political parties in the next general election, said president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
The Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman said there are clear signs the party can achieve this goal, as shown by its candidates' victories in a string of recent by-elections.
The most recent example was Umno's win in the Ayer Kuning state by-election, said the Bagan Datuk MP.
'... and we have celebrated the victories of our friends who stood as candidates in these by-elections,' he said at the 2025 Bagan Datuk Umno Branches Conference at the Umno Complex in Sungai Sumun near here today.
The event was launched by Datuk Megat Zulkarnain Omardin, political secretary to the Deputy Prime Minister.

BUTTERWORTH: Former Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief commissioner Tan Sri Dzulkifli Ahmad has joined Umno, reports said. "Umno needs to return as a unifying force for the Malay community and Malaysians as a whole," he said. Dzulkifli had previously hinted at entering politics during the 15th General Election in 2022 and was widely speculated to contest the Tasek Gelugor parliamentary seat. However, those rumours did not materialise.

PETALING JAYA : Sabah Umno treasurer Salleh Said Keruak's call for parties to allow its candidates to engage in 'friendly contests' with each other at the state's upcoming polls is aimed at reducing internal friction among coalitions, according to an analyst. Bilcher Bala of Universiti Malaysia Sabah said the former chief minister's call for a 'planned, respectful arrangement' may be a tactical effort to defuse tensions, manage internal competition, and prevent conflicts within the Barisan Nasional-Pakatan Harapan (BN-PH) alliance at state level. Bilcher Bala. 'The understanding (is) that whoever wins, the seat remains part of the coalition,' Salleh had said in a recent Facebook post. Bilcher said that while the strategy is intended to maintain internal unity within the BN-PH alliance, 'it does not explicitly suggest that BN-PH will go separately from GRS.' He said that GRS could benefit if Salleh's proposal is implemented. (File pic) PETALING JAYA : Former Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Dzulkifli Ahmad has officially joined Umno. Dzulkifli handed over his membership form to Merbau Kudong Umno chief Ramli Daud during a brief ceremony in Sungai Dua, Butterworth, in Penang, last night, Utusan Malaysia reported. 'I feel the time has come for me to be active in the party. That is why I submitted my membership form to become an Umno member,' he was quoted as saying. 'God willing, I will continue my efforts to help the people in Tasek Gelugor, which I had previously done through my own personal capacity and during my time in office.' Dzulkifli said he was joining as an ordinary member and that he chose Umno because of its past dominance. He said he hoped to bring 'a new breath of life' to the Malay-based party. Dzulkifli had been rumoured to contest the Tasek Gelugor parliamentary seat during the 15th general election (GE15) in 2022, but the speculation never materialised. He was appointed MACC chief on Aug 1, 2016 and resigned in May 2018 after Pakatan Harapan formed the government following its victory in the 14th general election (GE14).
