Tengku Zafrul, Khir Toyo welcome to face BN, says Umno man

Selangor Umno chief Megat Zulkarnain Omardin said Umno will 'fight to the end against anyone who stands against the Barisan Nasional logo'. (Bernama pic) KLANG : Selangor Umno chief Megat Zulkarnain Omardin says he is not surprised that Tengku Zafrul Aziz has been admitted as a member of Ampang PKR. 'We expected it. He had asked for it from the beginning,' he said at a press conference today when asked to comment. Megat said after officiating the Selangor People's Progressive Party convention that Umno is ready to face any of its former leaders in the next elections. 'We will fight to the end against anyone who stands against Barisan Nasional, whether it's Tengku Zafrul or (former Selangor menteri besar) Khir Toyo,' he said, when asked about the possibility of Tengku Zafrul running for the Ampang seat. Tengku Zafrul, the investment, trade and industry minister, had announced his resignation from Umno on May 30 after being a member since 1997. On Aug 8, he confirmed that his application to join PKR had been accepted. PKR secretary-general Fuziah Salleh said yesterday that his membership application had been approved at a central leadership council meeting on July 26. Khir, a former three-term Sungai Panjang assemblyman, has joined Bersatu.
