Military Hajj Mission leaves for Saudi Arabia

Muscat: The Military Hajj Mission left here on Saturday for the sacred lands for performing the Hajj rituals. The mission was seen off at Seeb Airbase by Air Vice Marshal (Retd) Mattar bin Ali Al Obaidani and a number of senior officers at SAF and the other military and security apparatuses.
On the occasion, Air Vice Marshal (Retd) Mattar bin Ali Al Obaidani, gave a speech in which he spoke on the Hajj as a key pillar of Islam. He said that the military Hajj mission came as a gesture from His Majesty Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik, the Supreme Commander, which (the mission) is annually organised for the personnel ( retired and- on-the job) of SAF and the other military and security apparatuses for performing rituals of the Hajj.
Captain Abdulrahman bin Ali Al Bimani, Head of the Military Hajj Mission, said that proceeding with performing the Hajj rituals is not just a journey but also a national message that depicts the ties between the Omani military personnel and their Islamic belief, the nation and religion and the duty and worship.
The mission receives the Royal Care and Attention of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, the Supreme Commander, which attention and care is a continuation of the care and attention accorded by late Sultan Qaboos bin Said, he said adding that we believe that the members of the mission are ambassadors for the Sultanate of Oman.
Medical Officer / Doctor of the Military Hajj Mission, Major Haitham bin Mohammed Al Mahrooqi, said that all arrangements targeting the comfort, safety and security of the hajis of the Military Mission have been taken.

Tourism Hackathon 2025 to be launched in Duqm from 27 August

Duqm: A youth ideas competition titled "Tourism Hackathon 2025" will kick off in Duqm, Governorate of Al Wusta, from 27 to 31 August 2025. Organized by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism in cooperation with the private sector, the competition seeks to develop the sectors of tourism and hospitality in the Sultanate of Oman. The hackathon aims to provide a platform for youth, entrepreneurs and innovators and develop smart solutions that keep pace with the evolving reality of the tourism sector. In the long term, the competition is also envisaged to motivate and empower talented Omani youth to think in innovative ways and address challenges through applicable solutions that contribute to the promotion of sustainable growth and the competitiveness of the tourism sector. The event also provides an opportunity to enhance the Sultanate of Oman's commitment to supporting innovation and honing future skills in the sectors of tourism and hospitality. The hackathon will be attended by innovators, entrepreneurs and students from universities and colleges. Salalah: A forum on "Archival Experiences" in Salalah has recommended unifying national efforts in document management, enhancing training and capacity-building programs, and adopting modern technologies for digitization and electronic preservation. The goal is to ensure the sustainability of documents as an integral part of the national memory. This came at the conclusion of the 3-day forum, which was organized by the National Records and Archives Authority at the Directorate General of Heritage and Tourism in Dhofar Governorate. The final day of the forum included three main sessions. The first session addressed document sorting, discussing mechanisms and projects for sorting through practical case studies from the work environment. It also highlighted the public document sorting project as a fundamental step in a document's lifecycle. The second session, titled "Document Digitization and Storage Locations," featured four presentations by different institutions showcasing their efforts to link digital and physical preservation. This included the experience of Oman Airports in establishing a document management center, an initiative by Nama Dhofar Services Company, and presentations on Dhofar Municipality's files and the Environment Agency's secure document preservation initiative. The session was held in line with the national push towards digital transformation and information security.
