Volusia County Schools begins pilot program of new weapon detection system
School officials in Volusia County are launching a pilot program that uses a new weapons detection system. It's called 'Evolv Express.'
The system uses AI-driven sensors to detect weapons while allowing for a smooth entry process for the students.
The program is set to begin Tuesday at Atlantic High School.
Volusia County is the first district in the state to implement this advanced screening technology.

SpaceX set to for Friday night rocket launch from Florida's Space Coast
SpaceX crews are planning to launch a Falcon 9 rocket Friday night from Florida's Space Coast. The launch from the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station is planned for 11:19 p.m. The launch is looking to send a SiriusXM satellite into orbit. Astronauts in quarantine ahead of Axiom-4 mission to ISS
The crew members of Axiom-4 are in quarantine ahead of their launch next week to the International Space Station. The astronauts will spend two weeks aboard the ISS conducting 60 experiments during their commercial flight. The international crew will include representatives from the United States, India, Poland, and Hungary. It will be led by veteran astronaut Peggy Whitson. 'Each mission we have builds on the last, expanding our capabilities and deepening our understanding of how we can sustainably live and work in space,' Whitson said Tuesday at a news conference. A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket will be used to launch the mission from Kennedy Space Center. Volusia County's Marine Science Center reopening after $4.2M Renovation
Volusia County's Marine Science Center will reopen on June 24, after a nine-month, $4.2 million renovation that began in 2024. The renovated facility showcases improved marine exhibits, larger educational spaces, and upgraded visitor activities to foster comprehension of marine ecosystems. New highlights include the John Crisp Artificial Reef Exhibit showcasing Volusia County's artificial reef program benefits; a living shoreline exhibit; and a coral lab providing research opportunities for students. The center expanded with a 1,500-square-foot education building, an aquarium quarantine deck for new fish, and enhancements to the parking area and main building to improve visitor flow.
