Pakistani passport holder grilled for hours at Turkey-Bulgaria border despite valid EU papers
A viral account by a US content creator has prompted mixed reactions after she claimed that border authorities held a Pakistani man at the Turkey-Bulgaria crossing despite him having proper EU documents. The incident, she said, showed how travel can still be shaped by prejudice. Jenny, a travel vlogger who showed her American passport in a video, wrote on Instagram that the whole incident was 'sickening'.
'What should've been a simple border crossing from Türkiye to Bulgaria turned into a 3-hour delay, all because one passenger had a Pakistani passport. He was questioned for hours. Not once, but by multiple officers, as if simply having a Pakistani passport was reason enough to treat him with suspicion,' she continued.
She further claimed that the man who was temporarily detained 'lives and works in Luxembourg, a Schengen country'. Jenny wrote that the man had all his documents, including a 'residency permit, employment verification, and proof of address.'
However, she also praised her fellow passengers for patiently waiting for the Pakistani passport holder. 'What stood out to me most, though, was the quiet solidarity on that bus. No one complained. No one asked for the bus to leave him behind. And the drivers, without hesitation, refused to continue the journey without him,' she posted. She concluded her share with a video. The video prompted mixed reactions. While some shared that the woman was rightfully outraged, others supported the authorities.
'I'm so glad to hear everyone stuck with him and was so caring,' an individual posted. Another remarked, 'I mean, Pakistan is famous for ONE thing. You can't blame the world for pattern recognition.' A fourth wrote, 'This is quite literally me and my husband, who has the same passport. This is really how it is; we have plenty of stories, even travelling as a couple where I have a strong passport. It's absolutely sickening that this happened to this man… it's always lesser known/less popular countries that make the biggest issues, too!'

New Tatkal ticket booking rules effective from today: All you need to know
The Indian Railways has announced new rules for booking Tatkal tickets for passengers, beginning July 1, 2025. Only those users who have authenticated their account using Aadhaar will be able to book tatkal tickets from today. The new rules will be applied both to online as well as the counter ticket booking systems. 'With effect from 01.07.2025, tickets under tatkal scheme can be booked through the website of Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC)/its app only by Aadhaar authenticated users. Subsequently, Aadhaar-based OTP authentication shall also be made compulsory for the tatkal booking from 15.07.2025,' reads the circular issued by the Railway Ministry. The rules for the counter ticketing system will be implemented by July 15, 2025. The Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS), the technological wing of the Indian Railways, and IRCTC were asked to make necessary modification in the system accordingly under intimation to all zonal railways. Here are the 5 things you need to know about the new rules for booking Tatkal tickets: Users identified with Aadhaar can book Tatkal tickets using the IRCTC's official website or the mobile app. According to a senior official from the Ministry of Railways, 'Account holders who link their accounts with Aadhaar will get priority booking during the first 10 minutes of Tatkal ticket sales." The new rules for Tatkal reservations via online ticket booking system will come into effect from July 1, 2025. Users can book their tickets through the website of Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) or its mobile app. Starting 15th July 2025, Aadhaar-based OTP authentication will become mandatory for Tatkal bookings made online as well as through Passenger Reservation Systems (PRS) counters and authorised agents. Under the new rules, authorised IRCTC agents are not allowed to book within the first 30 minutes of opening of booking for AC as well as non-AC travel classes. It means the agents will not be allowed to book tatkal tickets from 10 am to 10.30 am for air-conditioned classes and from 11 am to 11.30 am for non-air conditioned classes. 🔴 The railway board has proposed preparing the reservation chart eight hours before the departure of the train, which would reduce uncertainties for passengers with waitlist tickets, according to a press release by the Ministry of Railways. Currently, the reservation chart is prepared four hours before departure. 🔴 The new upgraded PRS will allow over 1.5 lakh ticket bookings per minute, and the ticket enquiry capacity will jump ten times, that is, from 4 lakh to over 40 lakh enquiry will be possible in a minute's time, the release highlighted. Within this, users will be able to submit their choice of seat and see the fare calendar. It also has integrated facilities for Divyangjan, students, patients, etc.

New Delhi: Indian Railways has implemented a series of key reforms starting Tuesday, July 1, aimed at streamlining operations and improving passenger convenience. The decision was taken during a high-level review meeting chaired by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, according to an official statement from the ministry. Key Changes Reservation Charting Now 8 Hours Before Departure Reservation charts for long-distance trains will now be prepared eight hours before scheduled departure, up from the earlier four. "It will benefit passengers travelling from remote locations or suburbs of major cities for catching long-distance trains. It will also provide more time to make alternative arrangements in case the wait list is not confirmed," the ministry noted. AC Waiting List Cap Increased To 60% The cap on waiting list tickets for air-conditioned classes has been raised to 60 per cent of total berth capacity, up from the 25 per cent limit introduced last month. Non-AC Waiting List Fixed At 30% For non-air-conditioned sleepers and second-class coaches, the waiting list quota has been fixed at 30%. Aadhaar Verification Mandatory For Tatkal Bookings Aadhaar-based verification is compulsory for booking Tatkal tickets on the IRCTC website and mobile app. Starting July 15, two-factor authentication, including an OTP sent to the registered mobile number, will also be implemented. Users can authenticate using Aadhaar or any verifiable government ID stored in DigiLocker. Tatkal is a special ticket booking scheme introduced by Indian Railways to allow passengers to book tickets at short notice, typically one day before the date of travel. Tatkal Booking Window Reserved For Individuals To curb bulk booking by touts and ensure fair access, IRCTC agents will be restricted from booking Tatkal tickets for the first 30 minutes after the window opens each day. Ticket Prices Increased 1 paisa per km for non-AC coaches. 2 paise per km for AC coaches. New Passenger Reservation System (PRS) Launched The new and upgraded PRS can process over 1.5 lakh ticket bookings per minute, a fivefold jump from the previous 32,000 bookings per minute. The system also features a multilingual and user-friendly interface for both booking and enquiries. It also supports advanced functionalities such as seat selection, fare calendars, and integrated options for "Divyangjan", students, and patients.
