The One Show's Clara Amfo pauses show to issue live TV warning to guests

Daily Mirrora day ago

The One Show presenter Clara Amfo was forced to issue a warning to guests Angela Scanlon and Vicky Pattison on Wednesday's show
The One Show's Clara Amfo issued a caution to guests Angela Scanlon and Vicky Pattison during Wednesday's (28 May) episode of the BBC One show.
Clara and JB Gill were back presenting the chat show, joined by Angela, Vicky and John Legend, as well as Matt Baker with the latest from Watchdog.

Angela and Vicky discussed their new podcast, Get A Grip, described as the "ultimate girl's group chat". The new project sees the pair discussing a range of women-related topics.

As they divulged details about the podcast, Clara asked Vicky and Angela to elaborate on the subjects they cover in the episodes, before giving them a warning.
"As Vicky has said, no topic is off limits," Clara stated. "But, let's keep it above board, it's 7pm, it's The One Show, we're live on national TV.

"So, what other topics can you delve into? What can you share that your listeners can look forward to?"
"I don't know! I'm not sure!" Vicky chuckled, while Angela added: "It's unfiltered, I will say that. Those are my favourite type of people and the conversations that you want to eavesdrop on, I suppose."
During the chat, Vicky also gave some insight into the reason behind the podcast's name, revealing that "get a grip" is a phrase she's grown tired of and she and Angela are now trying to reclaim it, reports the Express.

She detailed: "Traditionally women are often taught to be quiet, submissive, seen and not heard, and actually now is the time for women to be loud, proud and deliberate about stuff."
Vicky later remarked: "It becomes this lovely solidarity moment, we're trying to build a community and inspire women and have a laugh as well."
Vicky and Angela's new podcast is touted as the "unapologetic group chat you've always wanted".
It sees the pair delving into themes such as motherhood, married life, and online controversies, alongside "dissecting culture" and tackling the "ridiculous expectations placed on women".
Catch The One Show every weekday on BBC One at 7pm. Tune into Get A Grip with Angela Scanlon and Vicky Pattison through Global Player.

Dept Q star looks completely different in forgotten Call the Midwife role

Netflix's new drama Dept Q stars Leah Byrne as cadet Rose - however, some fans may recognise the Scottish actress for her role in an episode of BBC One's Call the Midwife Netflix's brand new crime drama Dept Q arrived today on the streamer, starring Downton Abbey's Matthew Goode as a detective attempting to track down the mysterious criminal who shot him in the face. After returning back to his Edinburgh police station for the first time since the attack, Carl (Goode) is tasked with setting up Department Q - a cold case unit - while he covertly tries to investigate the crime himself. In his new team, Carl is joined by Rose - a cadet who is keen to prove herself to Carl - played by Scottish actress Leah Byrne. The actress has just a few credits under her belt, including small roles in BBC drama Nightsleeper and Channel 4's Deadwater Fell. ‌ ‌ However, before taking on the role of Rose, Leah appeared in a 2019 episode of Call the Midwife as Maggie Nickle - an expectant mother. With a brunette head of hair, Leah couldn't look more different in the BBC role. Meanwhile, in Dept. Q, Leah sports a ginger perm as rookie detective Rose. Leah isn't the only unrecognisable star in Dept Q. Matthew Goode takes on a scruffy look and a beard for his role as DCI Carl Morck. Speaking about the Netflix drama ahead of its release, Matthew said of Carl: "He's so aggressive and rude. I loved his sense of humour. He's a complex character, and you get to see him warts and all." ‌ He added that he was hooked on the character from the moment he was sent the script. "Scott could have cast anybody,' Matthew said. 'When someone trusts you like that, you take it seriously. There was pressure but, as Billie Jean King said, 'Pressure is a privilege.'' Matthew opened up about one scene, where he needed to drive an old Ford Sierra with dodgy brakes. 'Every time Scott told me to drive fast, I'd be thinking, 'I hope it stops and I don't plough into anyone,'' says Matthew. 'Occasionally, I'd turn the car off and walk away, then I'd hear it start again and have to give it a kick.' ‌ The series also stars The Queen's Gambit actress Chloe Pirrie as Merritt - an ambitious lawyer whose disappearance is investigated by Carl. "Merritt's main strength is she doesn't feel the need to please people," Chloe said. "She's loyal, someone you'd want on your side, but she's also isolated herself. She uses people and doesn't think that highly of them. She's similar to Carl in that way." Dept Q is now streaming on Netflix.

Is Zack Hudson leaving EastEnders and is he really dead after watery car plunge?

Zack Hudson's (James Farrar) fate was left hanging in the balance in EastEnders after the car he was in plummeted off a bridge and into the river. The popular character, a brother of show legend Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean), was determined to exit Walford after Nicola Mitchell (Laura Doddington) threatened his loved ones. The chef recently discovered that Nicola's youngest Barney (Lewis Bridgeman) is his biological son after he and the Mitchell matriarch had an affair 16 years ago. Knowing that the Mitchells – in particularly Nicola – are dangerous, Zack resolved to get Barney out of dodge, hoping his son's brother Harry (Elijah Holloway) would come through and help him. Upon learning of Nicola's true nature, Harry seemed like he wanted to help Zack but, not wanting to lose his little brother, the mechanic attacked Zack and bundled him into the boot of a car. Teddy (Roland Manookian) intervened, giving chase and – upon catching up with him -talked sense into Harry, who relented and allowed Zack out of the boot. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video But tragedy struck when Zack came to and, believing Teddy to a threat, he grabbed the steering wheel, sending their vehicle into the watery depths below. Zack was subsequently declared dead by all those present on the night of the accident, but – as we soap fans know too well – no body can often equate to no death. So is Zack really dead? Be warned EastEnders fans, spoilers follow for Thursday's (May 29) episode, which is now available to stream on iPlayer. No, Zack is not dead. In fact, he's very much alive! To our knowledge, he's not leaving the show – especially in the wake of Thursday's episode. As Barney processed the revelation that Zack is his father, he shared a heart-to-heart with Teddy, who assured him that he will always be his dad – blood relative or not. Barney subsequent sought support from Vicki Fowler (Alice Haig) and Linda Carter (Kellie Bright). As they discussed the events of the day in question, a drenched Zack entered the property! More Trending Everyone was left in shock, believing Zack to have perished in the watery car plunge, but the chef is alive and well. He urged Barney to reconsider having Nicola in his life and instead come away with him but confused Barney instead raced into the Square, where Nicola asked him what he wants. Barney told her that he wants everything to go back to the way it was as he, Nicola, Teddy and Harry returned home to No. 1 to play a board game, much to the chagrin of Zack.
