"...It was not a personal decision. It was a collective decision to join the NDA under the leadership of Ajit dada. I have, on numerous occasions, clarified that since 2014, there were several occasions when the decision to join the alliance was taken by the party (then undivided). We were almost on the edge of joining NDA, but at the last moment, the decision changed," the senior leader said.
He said that in 2023, the party, under the leadership of Ajit Pawar, decided to join the ruling alliance for the welfare of the people.
Live Events
"We joined the NDA without compromising our secular ideology and ideology of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Mahatma Phule, Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar and Shahu Maharaj," Tatkare said.
He clarified that the party's journey will continue under the leadership of
Prime Minister Narendra Modi
and
Amit Shah
.
Asked about both factions celebrating their foundation day in Pune, Tatkare said the NCP was founded on June 10, 1999, and the
Election Commission of India
has given a mandate to both factions of the party, and hence, they have the right to celebrate their foundation day.
The Lok Sabha MP dismissed the buzz about a possible reunion of the factions, saying the NCP had received no such proposal.
In 2019, the undivided NCP and
Congress
joined hands with the united Shiv Sena and formed the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government, which collapsed in June 2022.
In 2023, Ajit Pawar, then in the opposition, walked away with a majority of NCP legislators, joined the ruling BJP-Shiv Sena combine, and became a deputy chief minister.
The rival NCP factions began their respective foundation day celebrations by hoisting party flags in the presence of the party workers.
NCP (SP) Chief Sharad Pawar, Lok Sabha MP Supriya Sule and other party workers were present at the time of flag hoisting at the party office in Pune, while Tatkare, Rajya Sabha MP Sunetra Pawar and other leaders were present at the flag hoisting ceremony at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Sports Complex in Balewadi.

Congress to hold mashal marches across Maharashtra

The Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee will organise mashal (torch) marches across the state between June 12 and 14 to protest what it calls a systematic erosion of democratic processes under the BJP regime. The party has questioned the election commission's credibility and has hit out at Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for 'sidestepping serious concerns' raised by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over alleged electoral manipulation. Congress state vice president and former MLA Mohan Joshi announced the agitation on Tuesday, saying, 'Rahul Gandhi's recent newspaper article exposed the BJP's blueprint of vote theft in Maharashtra. It has rattled the ruling party. Instead of the Election Commission responding, Fadnavis jumped in with a reply that deflects from the core issue and misleads the people.' In his article published Saturday, Gandhi had described the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly elections as a 'blueprint for rigging democracy,' alleging a pattern of electoral 'match-fixing' that could soon be replicated in Bihar. The Election Commission dismissed the claims as 'absolutely absurd' and accused Gandhi of defaming the institution after an unfavourable result. Responding the next day, Fadnavis said, 'Rahul Gandhi consistently insults the democratic process. He repeatedly disrespects the public mandate. People have rejected Rahul Gandhi, and in retaliation, he is rejecting the people. This will only push the Congress party further into decline.' Joshi, however, accused Fadnavis of avoiding the real concerns raised by Gandhi. 'Instead of addressing the serious irregularities, he launched a personal attack. Why is the chief minister responding on behalf of the Election Commission? That itself raises suspicion,' Joshi said. He pointed out that Gandhi had questioned the process through which the Modi government amended the Constitution to remove the Chief Justice of India from the committee that appoints election commissioners, replacing the seat with Union Home Minister Amit Shah. 'This move gave the ruling party complete control over the selection of commissioners—this is where the electoral fraud begins,' Joshi said. He added that Congress governments had always followed a transparent process in appointing election commissioners, with no political interference. 'No one questioned the integrity of the commissioners we appointed. But Fadnavis, in his article, avoided these facts and instead chose to make shallow accusations,' Joshi said. Joshi also raised concerns over the unusual spike in voter numbers during the 2024 Assembly elections and reports of polling continuing beyond official hours in certain constituencies. 'Fadnavis has deliberately ignored these issues. His silence on this reinforces doubts about the fairness of the process,' he said.

'Local emergency': Mayor Karen Bass declares curfew in downtown LA amid anti-ICE protests; nearly 200 arrested

(AP photo) Los Angeles mayor Karen Bass on Tuesday declared a local emergency and imposed an overnight curfew in downtown Los Angeles as protests against federal immigration raids continued for a fifth straight day. The curfew will run from 8pm Tuesday to 6am Wednesday, covering a one-square-mile area bounded by the 5, 10, and 110 freeways. 'I have declared a local emergency and issued a curfew for downtown Los Angeles to stop the vandalism, to stop the looting,' Bass announced at an evening news conference. 'If you do not live or work in downtown LA, avoid the area. Law enforcement will arrest individuals who break the curfew and you will be prosecuted.' The order comes after days of unrest sparked by a series of immigration raids carried out by federal agents in the Westlake District, downtown, and South Los Angeles Since Friday, protesters have clashed with law enforcement, resulting in nearly 200 arrests, reported by CBS news. According to Bass, at least 23 businesses were looted Monday night. The curfew exempts residents, workers, credentialed media, and people experiencing homelessness, as confirmed by LAPD chief Jim McDonnell. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Endlich, spiele das beste Farm-Spiel 2025 gratis! 'Donald Trump is putting fuel on this fire,' Newsom wrote Sunday on X. 'Commandeering a state's National Guard without consulting the Governor of that state is illegal and immoral. Despite the curfew and heavy security presence, protesters have vowed to continue their demonstrations, which began in response to what they say is an unjust crackdown on immigrant communities.
