Man gets 30 years' jail, 13 strokes of rotan for raping daughter
The 54-year-old was ordered to serve 20 years in prison and to be given 10 strokes of the cane for rape and another 10 years and three strokes for physical sexual abuse.
However, judge Jamaludin Mat ordered the prison sentences be served concurrently from the date the accused was arrested on Sept 12, 2022.
For the first offence, the accused was charged under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code for raping his daughter, who was then aged 10 years and 3 months, at a residence in Kampung Lubuk Paku, Maran, in mid-March 2022.
The section carries a manimum prison sentence of 30 years and up to 10 strokes of the cane.
For the second offence, he was charged with committing physical sexual abuse against his child in the same place about 8pm on Aug 8, 2022.
The charge, under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, carries a maximum jail sentence of 20 years and whipping.
Prior to sentencing, deputy public prosecutor Khairunnisa Zaffar urged the court to mete out the maximum sentence, citing the severity of the crime.
The accused was represented by Khairul Anuar Abu Hasan Ashari and Ahmad Zahid Abu Hashim.

IPOH: An oil and gas consultant in Ipoh lost approximately RM2.7mil to a fraudulent online investment scheme, according to Comm Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin. The Perak police chief reported that the 37-year-old victim realised he had been scammed on May 20 after continuously failing to withdraw the "profits" from the scheme. Comm Noor Hisam explained that the victim registered on a website called "Nova 88" in April 2023, after learning about it from an acquaintance. "Trusting the acquaintance, the victim initially invested about RM30,000 into a bank account provided to him to obtain a login name and password for the website to check his investment. "Between Jan 5, 2024, and May 20 this year, the victim made 136 transactions into seven different accounts, totalling around RM2.7mil," he said in a statement on Tuesday (July 2). "The funds were from the victim's own savings and contributions from his family members. Whenever he tried to withdraw the earnings, he was required to make more payments, but was still unable to access the money," he said, adding that a police report was lodged on June 29. "The acquaintance provided excuses when questioned and has since become uncontactable," he added. Comm Noor Hisam advised the public against engaging in investments offered on unverified or unregistered websites, or those not regulated by recognised authorities. "High-risk investments like this can lead to significant losses," he said, noting that the case is being investigated under Section 402 of the Penal Code for cheating. "Always check the background of the investment company with relevant agencies like Bank Negara or the Securities Commission before making any decisions," he added.

Oil and gas consultant scammed of RM2.7 million in fake investment scheme
IPOH: An oil and gas consultant lost over RM2.7 million to a fraudulent online investment scheme through a website to which he was introduced. Perak police chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin said the 37-year-old victim lodged a report on June 29 after realising he had been deceived over a period spanning more than a year. He said that in April 2023, the victim was introduced to the investment platform via a contact he met on WhatsApp. "Trusting the individual, he registered an account on the website and began depositing funds with the expectation of high returns. "The victim initially deposited RM30,000 and was given login credentials to monitor his investments. "Between Jan 5, 2024, and May 20, 2025, he proceeded to make 136 transactions to seven different bank accounts, totalling RM2,701,687," he said in a statement. Noor Hisam added that the funds were sourced from both the victim's personal savings and family contributions. "However, red flags began to emerge when the victim was repeatedly asked to make additional payments each time he attempted to withdraw his so-called profits. "To date, he has been unable to retrieve any of the promised returns, and the suspect (who introduced the victim to the scheme) has become unreachable," he said. The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating. Noor Hisam warned the public to remain cautious of unregulated online investment platforms, especially those promoted through social media or messaging apps. "These schemes are often not regulated by recognised authorities and pose a high risk of financial loss," he said. He said potential investors should verify the legitimacy of any investment company with relevant bodies, such as Bank Negara Malaysia or the Securities Commission Malaysia, before parting with their money.

Teacher claims trial to sexually assaulting minor

Mino Ersyad Arshad, 49, who appeared before judge Elsie Primus, was charged under Section 14 (a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017. He was accused of kissing the 12-year-old girl inside a car in Sepanggar during midnight on August 18, 2024. The court fixed July 30 for pre-trial case management. In the meantime, the accused was released on RM15,000 bail with RM10,000 deposit and two local sureties. He was represented by counsel Hamid Ismail. Meanwhile, an unemployed man was jailed for 12 months by a Magistrate's Court here on Tuesday for injuring his sister. Magistrate Wan Farrah Fariza Wan Ghazali imposed the sentence on Ridzuan Roslan, 22, after he pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 323, punishable under Section 326A, both of the Penal Code. Ridzuan admitted to hurting his 31-year-old sister, who is an entrepreneur, at an apartment here on April 24. The court heard that an investigation revealed that the incident happened after the victim told her brother not to shout inside the apartment. However, Ridzuan, who was angry, punched his sister's head and strangled her. He had then pulled her left hand which hit the house grill. In mitigation, the unrepresented Ridzuan prayed for a lenient sentence and informed the court that he is jobless. In reply, the prosecution urged the court to impose a deterrent sentence and said that the accused had no previous conviction.
