Over 82,000 immoral social media posts removed by MCMC since 2022
The Ministry of Communications confirmed the removals in a written parliamentary reply to Muhammad Ismi Mat Taib (PN-Parit).
The deleted content violated the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 and other existing laws.
Among the blocked platforms was the Facebook page Grup Budak-Budak Sekolah Rendah, which contained child sexual abuse material.
The ministry stated that these actions were part of joint enforcement operations, Ops Pedo and Ops Noda, targeting inappropriate digital content.
Content removals depend on platform assessments based on community guidelines and local laws.
The government also restricted apps offering immoral services on Google Play and Apple Store.
However, control over such platforms remains with foreign providers operating outside Malaysia.
During the same period, 37,845 instances of false information and 7,846 posts on sensitive 3R issues were removed.
Politically motivated troll accounts spreading racial and religious tensions were also taken down.
The ministry emphasised that enforcement applies regardless of political affiliation to prevent abuse of free speech.
MCMC collaborates with the Royal Malaysia Police to enforce laws against harmful online content.
Section 233 of the Communications Act penalises misuse of social media to spread false or offensive material. - Bernama

THE Royal Malaysia Police has launched dual investigations into the case of 13-year-old Zara Qairina Mahathir, focusing both on misinformation spread online and alleged procedural failures by officers in the initial probe of her death. Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said the officers failed in their supervisory responsibilities, including the investigating officer's omission to request a post-mortem. 'They must be held accountable. Firm action will be taken against those who failed to act or supervise properly,' he said. Zara, a Form One student at SMKA Tun Datu Mustapha in Papar, was found unconscious in a drain near her hostel on July 16 after allegedly falling from the third floor. Zara's mum says they ‘panicked'

According to a report on New Straits Times, the 45-year-old said there had been no clear explanation of the procedure at the time. 'There was no clear explanation, and we are not familiar with this kind of case. We panicked, and no advice was given about the post-mortem process,' she reportedly wrote in a Facebook comment. 'If we had known, we would not have signed the form refusing the post-mortem,' she reportedly added. Her lawyer, Hamid Ismail, reportedly confirmed that the Facebook account under the handle 'Noie AiDa' belongs to her. Yesterday, Bukit Aman said police had failed to comply with procedure by not initiating a post-mortem, though Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk M. Kumar noted that Noraidah had signed a hospital-issued waiver. Zara died on July 17 at Queen Elizabeth Hospital here. Public must work together to stop bullying, says Mohd Na'im
KUALA LUMPUR: Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar today urged Malaysians, especially Muslims, to work together to put an end to all forms of bullying. He said bullying is a vile act that not only causes physical harm but also leaves deep emotional scars. "Islam teaches us to live with mutual respect and compassion, and to safeguard the rights and dignity of every individual. Bullying does not merely injure the body but also breaks hearts and extinguishes hope. "Remember, the prayers of those who are wronged have no barrier before Allah. Therefore, avoid any form of injustice, even as small as a speck. Bullying must stop, and love must flourish,' he said in a video posted on Facebook on Saturday (Aug 16).
