Israel sharpens travel warning for Israelis in UAE, PM's office says
The Israeli Prime Minister's office said on Thursday the National Security Council has sharpened its travel warning for Israelis staying in the United Arab Emirates.
The UAE's Israeli and Jewish community has grown more visible since 2020, when the UAE became the most prominent Arab state in 30 years to establish formal ties with Israel under a U.S.-brokered agreement dubbed the Abraham Accords.
"We are emphasizing this travel warning given our understanding that terrorist organizations (the Iranians, Hamas, Hezbollah and Global Jihad) are increasing their efforts to harm Israel", the National Security Council (NSC) said.
The NSC warned of possible attempts to target Israeli and Jewish individuals in the UAE, especially around Jewish holidays and Shabbat.
There was no immediate comment from the UAE's foreign ministry.
The warning comes amid concerns of retaliatory attacks following its recent military operation against Iran and as Israel faces mounting international pressure over the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip.
In March, the UAE sentenced three people to death for the murder of an Israeli-Moldovan rabbi who was killed in November in the Gulf country. Such crimes are rare in the UAE, which is largely viewed as one of the safest places in the Middle East. REUTERS

SINGAPORE - An 82-year-old Australian man was arrested for allegedly stealing two boxes of perfumes at Changi Airport Terminal 1 . In a statement on Aug 1 , the police said they were alerted to a case of shop theft at about 9.30am on M arch 18 in the airport terminal's transit area. A box of perfume valued at $149 was found to be missing from a display shelf at The Shilla Cosmetics and Perfumes o utlet. Officers from the Airport Police Division were able to identify the man through closed-circuit television footage. He was seen allegedly leaving the store with the unpaid item earlier on March 18, though he had already left Singapore. Investigations found that that the man had also allegedly taken an other box of the same perfume from the same outlet , without paying for it, on March 13 . He had also left Singapore on that occasion. The man was arrested on July 24 when he was in Changi Airport while in transit for another flight. He is slated to be charged on Aug 4 . In their statement, the police said that they take a serious view of shop theft cases, and offenders should not think that they can evade capture by quickly boarding an outbound flight.

President Tayyip Erdogan met Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Libyan Prime Minister Abdulhamid al-Dbeibah to discuss migration and other potential cooperation areas. "Erdogan pointed to the importance of the cooperation between the three countries against the tests that the Mediterranean basin is facing, including irregular migration flows," the presidency said in a statement. NATO allies Turkey and Italy meanwhile have strong ties, and have pledged to boost cooperation in the defence industry, while also increasing their reciprocal trade. Spain airdrops 12 tonnes of food aid over Gaza

The mission deployed 24 parachutes, each capable of carrying 500kg of food, for a total of 12 tonnes – enough for 11,000 people, said Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares. Spain also has aid waiting to cross into Gaza by road from Egypt, the minister added in a video message posted on social network X, along with a video of the operation. 'The induced famine that the people of Gaza are suffering is a disgrace to all of humanity,' Mr Albares said. 'Israel must open all land crossings permanently so that humanitarian aid can enter on a massive scale.' Spain joins other Western countries, including Britain and France, that have recently partnered with Middle Eastern nations to deliver humanitarian supplies by air to the Palestinian enclave. Although Israel has in recent days allowed more aid trucks into the Gaza Strip, aid agencies say Israeli authorities could do much more to speed up border checks and open more border posts. Concern has escalated in the past week about the situation in the Gaza Strip after more than 21 months of war, which started after Palestinian militant group Hamas carried out a deadly attack against Israel in October 2023.
