Sponsored: Celebrating reading, creativity and dialogue
The Abu Dhabi International Book Fair is back for the 34th time and its ready to welcome you until May 5 to celebrate voices from around the world. The fair is held each year in Abu Dhabi, and the main goal of ADIBF is to promote reading and the spread of culture and knowledge across the world. The fair is a global cultural platform that unites people as they join to celebrate all things reading, creativity, and dialogue. This year, the theme is 'Knowledge Illuminates Our Community' and celebrates the power of reading to connect, empower, and inspire. You can find inspiration through various programmes organised for the fair, industry networking with top people, and immersive experiences.
Each year leaders from the publishing and creative industries come from around the world to share their knowledge, connections and it allows those involved in this sector to form new partnerships, learn about the latest trends and developments in this promising industry, and discuss its priorities. This year there are some key figures, such as author Conn Iggulden, Professor Julian Jackson, Dr Roy Casagranda and so many more. You can see the lineup here. The fair is a popular one with over 230,000 people attending in 2024.
There's no shortage of things to do throughout the fair such as cultural activities, offering events in poetry, literature, arts, translation, and cultural discussions, workshops covering culinary arts, cinema, photography, and other creative disciplines. There is even a dedicated section for children, with workshops and culinary experiences in the 'World's Cuisine' programme, along with interactive activities that highlight the Arabic language.
Aligned with the UAE's Year of Community, the campaign will spotlight reading as a collective force for growth—bringing together authors, readers, and creatives to spark dialogue, share stories, and build a more connected cultural future.

President Ramaphosa mourns passing of cultural activist and creative visionary Rashid Lombard
President Cyril Ramaphosa has expressed his deep sadness at the passing of renowned photographer, cultural activist and jazz organiser Rashid Lombard, who has passed away at the age of 74. Mr Lombard was an Esteemed Member of the National Order of Ikhamanga (Silver), which he received in 2014 for his excellent contribution to arts and culture and his dedication to promoting jazz music that has put South Africa on the map for many jazz enthusiasts around the world. President Ramaphosa offers his deep condolences to the Lombard family and Mr Lombard's extensive network of friends, comrades and creatives nationally and internationally. Mr Lombard has been the organiser behind the positioning of South Africa through the arts in the North Sea Jazz Festival, Cape Town, now known as the Cape Town International Jazz Festival), and was the Festival Director of the Cape Town International Jazz Festival. Mr Lombard was born in North End, Gqeberha, and moved to Cape Town in 1962. Originally qualified as an architectural draughtsman, Rashid Lombard became an industrial photographer and later a renowned news and documentary photographer, and photographic artist. He built on his creative media career by becoming an influential jazz promoter and founder of the then Cape Town edition of the North Sea Jazz Festival. President Ramaphosa said: 'We have lost a cultural icon who not only documented our history of struggle but made history in his own right. 'Rashid Lombard's fearless depiction of apartheid's endemic inhumanity and violence and his compassionate focus on the lives of oppressed communities and disadvantaged individuals is a powerful record of our struggle for basic human rights and dignity. 'His creative and entrepreneurial ability gave rise to his establishment of the Cape Town Jazz Festival through which he bolstered South Africa's integration into global culture and linked this prestige event to the development of historically disadvantaged communities. 'Rashid achieved a remarkable feat with his love for the diversity and vibrancy of our nation. 'He did so with passion and humility that endeared him to everyone with whom he interacted and whose lives he touched. We reflect on his life with gratitude and with liberation and joy he leaves behind as his legacy.' Distributed by APO Group on behalf of The Presidency of the Republic of South Africa.

Create Production brings Vox Cinemas' sonic identity to life with Hans Zimmer
Create Production has joined forces with Majid Al Futtaim Entertainment to unveil Fall in Love with Film, Vox Cinemas' latest brand film that signals a new chapter for the region's premier cinema operator. The cinematic tribute, released in celebration of Vox Cinemas' 25th anniversary, is underscored by an original score and sonic identity created by legendary composer Hans Zimmer. The emotionally rich film is a love letter to the power of cinema, weaving together themes of love, community, and escapism. At its heart is the story of a young boy growing up with the cinema as his lifelong companion. The narrative is brought to life by Zimmer's evocative score, blending Hollywood-style orchestration with 90s nostalgia and Arabic musical elements. As part of Vox's broader 'experience-first' strategy to reconnect with audiences, Create Production oversaw the entire creative process, from script development to full-scale production across eight regional markets. The campaign produced more than 85 assets in a variety of languages, formats, and platforms, ranging from IMAX screens to social media reels. Create also led localisation efforts across four languages and dialects, ensuring cultural resonance throughout the region. Muhammad Ashraf, Senior Producer at Create Production, said: 'Working alongside the Vox Cinemas team to develop a film worthy of Hans Zimmer's signature sound was a true privilege. We set out to craft a narrative that celebrates Vox's magic and elevates the region's sonic identity.' The brand film is currently screening in Vox Cinemas across the Middle East, with additional distribution on digital platforms, social media, and out-of-home advertising. The custom sonic branding developed for the campaign will continue to roll out throughout 2025, becoming an integral part of the Vox experience—from cinema lobbies to customer service interactions. This project adds to Create Production's portfolio of landmark regional campaigns, continuing its track record of high-profile collaborations, including previous work with Zimmer and large-scale productions across the Middle East.
