Books and beyond: UAE entities highlight heritage, peace, knowledge at ADIBF 2025

While the spotlight was on the thousands of books on display, experts from leading UAE institutions were also present to share valuable to Aletihad at the fair, UAE institutions discussed their diverse roles in serving the community and their industries — from sustainable pearl farming and peacebuilding to literacy, political thought, and interfaith dialogue. ADIBF visitors who wished to explore global peace efforts would have found a wealth of information at the stand of the Abu Dhabi Forum for Al Fadhel Yahdih, Researcher at the Abu Dhabi Forum for Peace, emphasised their role in spreading the culture of peace globally.'Since 2014, we have hosted annual international conferences attended by about 1,000 influential thinkers, political leaders, and religious figures.'He highlighted key initiatives such as the Marrakesh Declaration (2016), which affirmed religious minority rights in Muslim countries, describing it as 'an unprecedented declaration, praised even by the late Pope Francis.'He also mentioned the "Hilf al-Fudul" and the "Comprehensive Citizenship," both launched to promote peaceful coexistence."This year, we are participating in the fair to showcase our initiatives to promote peace, and we will soon release an Encyclopaedia of Peace — a comprehensive multi-volume reference."Dr. Abbas Sadiq, Editor-in-Chief of the International Center for Strategic Studies, stressed the centre's consistent participation in the book fair, showcasing research in political science and international relations, as well as political thought in general. 'This output is published in the form of magazines, periodicals, and books. Among the key highlights of the centre's participation are a session that shared the institution's mission to promote dialogue and coexistence and an interactive library that invited visitors to engage with live human stories and experiences. It also hosted dialogues that highlighted new voices contributing to intercultural conversations, and a panel of Emirati authors who reflected on how storytelling strengthens human Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority enriched the fair with several heritage-themed programmes, including a session on the Nabati poetry, and a panel on of folk poetry in the UAE. The sessions highlighted poetry's role in preserving dialects, documenting history, and highlighting customs.

Dialogue is key to achieving regional stability: Ambassador of Pakistan to UAE

The discussion also addressed current regional challenges and explored ways to overcome them and achieve shared stability and Tirmizi presented an "Overview of Pakistan" highlighting the country's strategic geopolitical location, its economic potential, and its ongoing efforts to position itself as a regional economic expressed optimism about the future of economic integration between Pakistan and the Central and South Asian regions, emphasising that the country's location is a vital crossroads linking these regions with the Middle ambition is based on peace, infrastructure, and diplomacy as foundational pillars, he envoy also highlighted the importance of major regional projects - such as the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), the CASA-1000 energy project, and the TAPI gas pipeline - which aim to enhance connectivity and facilitate trade and transit across borders. He stressed the urgent need for peaceful and lasting solutions that serve the interests of both nations and contribute to regional session further addressed Pakistan's efforts in countering extremism and terrorism along its border with Afghanistan. The ambassador reaffirmed his country's unwavering commitment to combating terrorism and promoting regional security and stability, stressing the importance of regional and international cooperation in this regard. The ambassador also underlined the deep-rooted historical, cultural, and economic ties between Pakistan and the Gulf states, affirming Pakistan's keenness to expand cooperation with them in investment, energy, trade, and labour, which are key sectors that offer promising avenues for mutual growth.

Saudi Arabia displays cultural transformation at ADIBF
Saudi Arabia is taking part in the 34th edition of the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair (ADIBF), organised by the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre (ALC), until May 5, 2025 under the theme, 'Knowledge Illuminates Our Community.' The country's participation underscores its commitment to strengthening its cultural and intellectual presence on both regional and global stages. The Saudi pavilion offers visitors and exhibitors a window into the nation's dynamic transformation in literature, publishing, and translation. Presenting a modern approach to book production, the pavilion features contributions from major cultural and educational institutions, including the Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Education, King Fahd National Library, King Abdulaziz Foundation for Research and Archives, King Saud University, Umm Al-Qura University, King Faisal University, and the King Fahd Glorious Quran Printing Complex. A diverse range of activities is scheduled within the pavilion, such as workshops, panel discussions, book signings, and a wide selection of publications spanning history, literature, science, and Islamic studies. In statements to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), Bassam Al-Bassam, General Manager of Publishing at the Saudi Literature, Publishing, and Translation Commission, emphasised that this year's participation reflects the deep cultural ties between the UAE and Saudi Arabia. He highlighted the Kingdom's focus on supporting the publishing industry, fostering literary dialogue, and promoting the role of translation in broadening cultural exchange and enabling joint international distribution. 'We were keen to participate this year with a strong institutional identity by collaborating with key government entities involved in the book industry,' Al-Bassam said. 'We've developed a diverse cultural programme that reflects the Kingdom's heritage and civilisation. The Abu Dhabi International Book Fair is a distinguished platform that blends tradition with openness, aligning perfectly with our vision to amplify Saudi presence on the global cultural stage.' ADIBF2025: TRENDS honours future researchers, launches new insights to enrich knowledge

On the seventh day of ADIBF 2025, the centre's pavilion continued its dynamic presence and activities, through its AI-enhanced pavilion in Hall 10, which bridges the past and the future and showcases around 350 research publications that span various fields of knowledge, offering analysis, insight, and global foresight. Future Researcher Awards The pavilion of TRENDS Research & Advisory, the Platinum Sponsor of the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair 2025, hosted a special ceremony to honour the winners of the Future Researcher Awards. The competition was held under the theme "Empowering Young Minds to Lead Through Research" and targeted students from grades 1 to 12 with the aim of encouraging scientific inquiry, nurturing curiosity, and promoting youth contributions to a better students participated in the competition, presenting innovative research projects across various fields. A specialised jury evaluated the submissions based on rigorous criteria, and the winners were announced and honoured in a joyful ceremony held at the TRENDS pavilion. Training Programme Graduation TRENDS Research & Advisory also celebrated the graduation of a new cohort from the research training programme organised by the TRENDS International Training Institute. The graduates received certificates of appreciation for successfully completing the program, which aims to develop scientific research skills among youth and emerging researchers. Money for Terrorism TRENDS' pavilion at the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair also witnessed the signing of two new publications. The first is "Money for Terrorism" by Senator Nathalie Goulet, a member of the French Senate and Vice Chairperson of the Law Committee. This updated and expanded edition offers an in-depth and comprehensive analysis of the various methods terrorist networks use to finance their explains that terrorist financing goes beyond illicit activities to include seemingly legal ones such as real estate purchases, online fundraising, financial investments, and even the acquisition of artworks. She stresses the urgent need to rigorously combat fraud, tax evasion, and money laundering in order to address this evolving and complex book serves as a key reference for understanding the mechanisms of terrorist financing and how to combat them effectively, especially given the growing sophistication of funding methods. Emirati Experience The second book is "The Emirati Experience: Roots and Development" by H.E. Ali Abdullah Mohammed Al-Ahmad, Assistant Undersecretary for Policy and Defense Communications at the Ministry of Defense (MoD). The book explores the key milestones of the UAE's journey across various fields. It offers a journey that begins with the founding of the state in 1971 and the adoption of the federal system, tracing the strategic challenge of the post-oil era, and culminating in the country's remarkable achievements in human development and its unique model of balancing heritage and modernity. The book further examines the soft power tools the UAE has developed, including most notably diplomacy, which enabled the country to play an influential regional and international role and position itself as a key global player.
