"
Pushkar Singh Dhami, after taking part in the CZC meet, posted, "During the meeting, I urged for greater cooperation through the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) to strengthen road, communication and security arrangements in border areas. Additionally, I shared my views on the development of facilities in border villages under the Vibrant Village Scheme, the rapid expansion of Bharat Net and satellite communication services.
"
Dhami further mentioned, "Suggestions were given on the need to simplify the subsidy process under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, repeal the 1989 Remote Valley Notification and provide additional support to the state for the smooth operation of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, considering the damage to roads caused by disasters such as landslides, heavy rainfall and cloudbursts in Uttarakhand's hilly areas during the monsoon.
" Dhami added, "Proposals were made for the establishment of a Glacier Study Centre, a Biodiversity Conservation Institute and an International Adventure Sports Training Centre in the state. 'We don't have money, and neither does Siddaramaiah': Empty-coffer remarks embarrass Karnataka govt; home minister G Parameshwara says it was only in jest

BENGALURU/BAGALKOT: A tongue-in-cheek remark by Karnataka home minister G Parameshwara about shortage of funds in the state govt has triggered a political firestorm and social-media frenzy, after a video of his speech in North Karnataka's Badami went viral. This prompted Parameshwara to issue a clarification on Tuesday, insisting his comments in jest had been misconstrued as a suggestion that the Congress govt was facing a financial crunch. Speaking at the inauguration of a fire station in Badami Monday evening, Parameshwara urged local Congress MLA BB Chimmankatti to think big and push for a Rs 1,000-crore development plan for the region, once the capital of the Chalukya dynasty. HM clarifies there's no financial distress The home minister doubled down on the point for comic effect. "After providing rice, lentils, and oil, the funds are depleted," he quipped, before gesturing to excise minister RB Timmapur and adding with a grin, "The 'enne' (liquor or excise) minister is right here," drawing peals of laughter from the crowd. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với sàn môi giới tin cậy IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo While the humorous tone elicited chuckles at the event, the viral clip has since ignited serious political chatter and left the govt red-faced. The minister said on Tuesday: "I have not said like that, who said there is no money? I have defended the govt, saying we have presented a record budget... as someone said things jokingly during the speech, I reacted in a similar fashion, that's all." Reiterating the fiscal strength of the state, the minister said, "A sum of Rs 22,000 crore has been allocated for irrigation in the budget. Allocations have been made for the five guarantee schemes, and instructions have been made to prepare an action plan for Rs 50 crore in every constituency." He added, "I'm now saying officially that there is no financial distress in our govt. I'm saying it very clearly. Sometimes, there may be a delay in the release of funds, as DPR and estimates have to be prepared before releasing money. There may be some delay in that; other than that, there is nothing else." Despite the explanation, Parameshwara's remark - "We don't have the money, and neither does Siddaramaiah" - continues to dominate discussions, with political opponents questioning the fiscal health of the state and the delivery of five welfare guarantees.

"Democracy was being murdered, we had no rights": Survivor recalls ordeal during Emergency

New Delhi [India], June 25 (ANI): Union Home Minister Amit Shah greeted Sumita Arya, a survivor of the Emergency era, and presented her with a copy of the Indian Constitution during an event commemorating 50 years since the imposition of the Emergency in 1975. The event highlighted the struggles faced by those who endured the dark period in Indian democracy. Sumita Arya, who was imprisoned along with her three children and eight other family members during the Emergency, recounted the harrowing experiences of that time. 'The democracy was being murdered. She (Indira Gandhi) was doing everything as per her will... We could not speak up about the atrocities we were facing. She knew she would lose the power, so she started filling the jails. We faced a food crisis, and the quality of the available food was poor... All 11 members of my family were jailed... We had no rights...' she told ANI. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, while addressing the programme on 50 years of Emergency at Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya, said that former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi imposed the Emergency as she saw a threat to her power, and there was no external danger or internal unrest. 'Today is the eve of the 50th anniversary of the Emergency... There may arise a question why something that happened 50 years ago is being discussed now... When 50 years of any national event are completed, good or bad, its memory fades away in society. If the memory of an event like the Emergency that shook the democracy fades away, then that is harmful to the nation,' he said. 'Today, we are the world's largest democracy and the reason we overcame a dark chapter like the Emergency is because our nation never bows down to dictatorship. The world has witnessed the birth of democracy on this soil. India is the mother of democracy,' he added. Amit Shah said the first non-Congress government was formed in the country in the general elections held after the Emergency. 'At that time, no one would have liked the Emergency except for the dictators and the small group that benefited from it... They had an illusion that no one could challenge them, but after the Emergency, when the first Lok Sabha elections were held, for the first time after independence, a non-Congress government was formed and Morarji Desai became the Prime Minister,' he said. 'It is difficult to define the Emergency in a single sentence. I have tried to come up with a definition. The conspiracy to convert a multi-party democracy of a democratic country in a dictatorship is a Emergency,' he added. He said the Modi government decided to observe June 25 as Samvidhan Hatya Diwas so that 'the country remembers how a nation suffers when its leaders turn into dictators'. (ANI)
