Searing heat wave strikes Egypt for two weeks
The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) warned that a severe heat wave will hit the country starting Wednesday, lasting for two weeks. The EMA explained that with the onset of the second half of Epip, the 11th month of the ancient Egyptian and Coptic calendars, the country will experience an unusually intense heat wave due to the extension of the Indian monsoon low and its strong impact on the eastern Mediterranean. This further coincides with settling of a heat dome over the north of the country. Indian Monsoon Low Weather experts attributed this searing heat wave to the extension of the very deep Indian low, which attracts hot and humid air masses from South Asia, causing temperatures to rise in Egypt and most Arab countries. The EMA issued several important tips for citizens, including avoiding direct exposure to the sun during the afternoon, drinking sufficient amounts of water, and wearing light-colored cotton clothing to avoid heat stress and sunstroke. Wednesday's temperatures: Alexandria: 34C Cairo and Hurghada: 39C Sharm el-Sheikh: 41C Aswan: 42C Luxor 43C Edited translation from Al-Masry Al-Youm
