T-Mobile makes huge Starlink announcement as it celebrates another 5G win over AT&T and Verizon
Today was a momentous day for T-Mobile. The company announced that it was the new industry leader, revealed the date for T-Satellite's public rollout, and introduced new plans for those looking to switch.
T-Mobile's 5G strategy
Connectivity intelligence company Ookla concluded after conducting an expansive test that T-Mobile has the best mobile network in the US. This achievement was announced by CEO Mike Sievert, COO Srini Gopalan, and Marketing, Strategy, and Products President Mike Katz at an event today.Ookla carried out half a billion real-world tests on millions of devices to find out which network served people the best for common use cases and determined that T-Mobile offered better speed and experience than AT&T and Verizon.
Despite raising prices, T-Mobile insists it provides both the best value and the best network.

Speaking to CNET , T-Mobile 's president of technology Ulf Ewaldsson said that the company focused on mid-band, which offers faster speed than low-band and better coverage than millimeter wave.

To commemorate the achievement, T-Mobile announced that its T-Satellite service, which is powered by SpaceX's Starlink satellites and brings connectivity to dead zones, will launch officially on July 23. At the moment, only texting is supported, but the company says that the data service will be activated on October 1 to enable "application experiences on the satellite network." The company is working with makers of apps that people traveling to remote locations are most likely to use to provide the best possible experience. AccuWeather, AllTrails, Apple, Google, WhatsApp, and X are all expected to launch satellite-enabled apps. The company has also announced free DashPass for its customers. It's a subscription service by delivery company DoorDash that provides benefits such as no delivery fee. This benefit will be available starting July 8.
Lastly, to make it easy for customers of other carriers to switch to T-Mobile , the company has announced the Easy Upgrade program. T-Mobile claims AT&T and Verizon customers on similar plans will save at least 20 percent if they migrate. T-Mobile will pay off their phone and give them a new iPhone Pro.
Metro by T-Mobile customers haven't been left out of the celebration. Beginning June 26, customers on Metro's most popular plans will get more premium data.
There was a time when T-Mobile was the number four carrier in the US, and while customers may not be happy with the company breaking away from its Un-carrier ethos, there is no denying that it has made rapid technological advancements to ensure top-notch experience for its customers. Switch to Total 5G+ Unlimited 3-Month plan or Total 5G Unlimited and get a free iPhone.

Pixel 10 Pro Fold could be first foldable with this feature topping the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7
Google is expected to welcome back to its lineup this year the latest iteration of its Pixel Pro Fold model, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold. Recently, foldable manufacturers have been able to figure out how to keep these expensive handsets protected from water. What some of them haven't figured out yet is how to make their devices impervious to dust. That's because these phones become vulnerable to small particles when they are opened. They also have plenty of small, moving parts. As a result, most foldables used to have Ingress Protection ratings of IPX8. The "X" means that those devices were not rated for their protection from dust and other small particles. The 8 means that the device can be submerged in clear water up to nearly five feet for as long as 30 minutes and escape unscathed. Motorola was able to use a new hinge design to give the Razr (2025) series an IP48 rating. Besides giving the latest Razr line the ability to submerge in close to five feet of clear water for nearly half an hour, having the IP48 rating instead of IPX8 does provide the clamshell foldable with some protection against solid foreign objects of 1.0mm and greater. Obviously, this won't stop dust particles from gumming up the works inside these Razr models, but it will keep larger and potentially damaging particles out of these foldables. Render of the Pixel 10 Pro Fold cover screen and the back panel. | Image credit-PhoneArena The Pixel 10 Pro Fold will be the first foldable to have an Ingress Protection rating equal to the IP68 rating that you might find on a high-end smartphone. Google was able to achieve this by making the hinge on the foldable thinner which will also make the device more comfortable to hold. While the hinge will be thinner, the bezel will be stretched out allowing the cover display to rise from 6.3-inches on the Pixel 9 Pro Fold to 6.4-inches on the Pixel 10 Pro Fold . Google is expected to unveil the Pixel 10 line including the Pixel 10 Pro Fold on August 20th. The devices could be released on August 28th and they should have an advantage over the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 when it comes to protection from dust. Samsung announces the date of Galaxy Unpacked event for its new foldables
Last week, leakster Evan Blass said that Samsung would host its Galaxy Unpacked event for the unveiling of new foldables on July 9. Well, Blass' claim has turned out to be true, as Samsung has confirmed the July 9 date for the Galaxy Unpacked event. The event will be hosted in Brooklyn, New York, and will begin at 10AM ET. It will also be streamed live on Samsung's official website and YouTube channel. The Korean brand hasn't revealed how many devices it will unveil at Unpacked and simply stated that the "next-generation Galaxy devices are being reimagined around a new AI-powered interface, supported by breakthrough hardware built to unlock their full potential." The video teaser Samsung shared says "Ultra Unfolds" towards the end, which could lead one to believe that Samsung will introduce the folding Ultra at the Unpacked; however, rumors claim that's unlikely to happen. While Samsung didn't explicitly mention the names of the products it will introduce at the July 9 Unpacked event, rumors suggest that the brand will unveil the Galaxy Z Fold7, Galaxy Z Flip7, Galaxy Z Flip7 FE, and the Galaxy Watch8 series. Congress just banned a major app over data fears — and it's not the one you'd expect
WhatsApp has been banned from all U.S. House of Representatives devices due to concerns over how the app handles user data. According to Axios, House staff received an email on Monday from the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) stating that the messaging app is no longer allowed on any government-managed phones, computers, or browsers. The Office of Cybersecurity said WhatsApp is considered a high-risk platform because of "the lack of transparency in how it protects user data, absence of stored data encryption, and potential security risks involved with its use." Staffers have been told to delete the app if it is already installed, and to avoid downloading it in the future. This isn't the first time the House has restricted access to popular digital tools. Over the past few years, it has issued bans or partial bans on apps from ByteDance, AI tools like DeepSeek, and even Microsoft's Copilot. For ChatGPT, only the paid version — ChatGPT Plus — is currently approved for use. The decision to block WhatsApp comes shortly after Meta, the company behind the app, confirmed plans to begin testing ads in WhatsApp Status. While the ban officially focuses on data security, the timing has led to speculation that the recent move toward monetization may have raised additional concerns. WhatsApp announced it will start placing ads in user status messages. | Image credit — WhatsApp In response, Meta spokesperson Andy Stone disagreed with the decision and pointed out that WhatsApp messages are end-to-end encrypted by default, meaning only the people involved in a conversation can read the content. — Andy Stone, Meta spokesperson Despite Meta's defense, the CAO listed several approved messaging alternatives for House use. These include Microsoft Teams, Signal, Wickr, iMessage, and FaceTime. The email also warned staff to watch out for phishing attempts and unknown texts, urging them to stay alert. While WhatsApp's encryption remains one of its core features, the House's decision highlights a growing debate over how secure messaging apps really are — especially as more platforms begin to introduce ads and other changes that affect user privacy. Personally, I find it surprising to see Signal on the list of approved apps — not that there's anything wrong with the apps, but just because of the optics following a previous political scandal involving that same app in the past few months.
