Tourist almost split in two by boat while snorkelling off the coast of the Bahamas
Brent Slough, from Texas, is in critical condition at an ICU in Miami, Florida, after suffering multiple fractures and deep gashes in the horrifying incident on June 30.
Mr Slough was snorkelling approximately six metres off the shore of Exuma when a speedboat, captained by two men, barrelled through the waters and into the father of two before taking off, CBS Texas reported.
The 42-year-old was with his wife, Whitney, and their two daughters, who witnessed the grisly hit-and-run.
'I felt like a thump thump, and I was like, 'did I just get hit by a boat?'' Mr Slough told the outlet. 'My left leg wasn't functioning, and I felt like something was wrong with my lower body.'
Mr Slough was nearly split in two by the powerful blades that struck just below his buttocks.
'His bottom was almost completely detached from his legs,' a horrified Whitney said.
The wounded father managed to pull himself above water and saw the boat that allegedly struck him speeding away from the frightening scene.
'So I surfaced and I looked to my right and I see two guys in a boat and one of them looks back and they just keep on going,' he said.
Mr Slough's older daughter rushed to her dad's aid and pulled him to shore using a float, according to the outlet.
He was rushed to a hospital on Exuma before being transferred roughly 30 minutes away to a medical centre in Nassau.
The care at both facilities was considered 'insufficient,' and Mr Slough was airlifted on an ambulance jet to Miami, where he went into surgery before being hospitalised in the ICU, according to a GoFundMe set up for his wife.
'The doctor told me, 'Please get to a hospital in Miami, you need to get to the US for something this traumatic,'' Mr Slough said.
Doctors are concerned that Slough's injuries are still life-threatening, fearing the lacerations can become infected.
Whitney Slough left her daughters back in the Bahamas to travel with her husband to the US.
'It breaks my heart because we're not on vacation together, and we are not with our girls at the same time,' she told CBS Texas. 'I'm so grateful that he's alive.'
Mr Slough graduated from West Point before becoming an Army Ranger in his six-year military service, where he served one tour in Iraq.
The determined wife is returning to her children to assist authorities in finding the boaters she believes are aware of hitting her husband.
'Oh, they're going to be found,' she said. 'It's against the law to be within 200 feet of the shore. Brent was about 20 feet out … I just wish they would turn themselves in, but if they don't turn themselves in, then we have to find them.'
Whitney credited God for saving her husband, despite his gruesome injuries.
'This was God getting us through this 100 per cent,' she added.

WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis has been arrested on a domestic violence charge. Jail records indicate that Davis is facing a battery charge after being arrested Friday morning in Miami Beach. According to Fox Sports' Andy Slater, Davis is accused of hitting his ex-girlfriend on the back of the head and slapping her. Davis was arrested in December of 2022 in Florida on a misdemeanour domestic violence charge after allegedly using a 'closed hand-type slap' to strike a woman, according to a Broward County Sheriff's Office incident report. A recording of the victim's 911 call was later released by TMZ. 'He's going to kill me!' the caller said. 'I need help, please! I'm trying to go home. I have my baby in the car, and he attacked me in front of the kid. 'And, now he's messing up my tires!' In December, Posso said on Instagram that Davis was not guilty of any domestic violence. 'These past days have been hurtful, and extremely exhausting for all parties involved,' she wrote. 'I pride myself on being extremely private; this situation was the last thing I wanted to be made public. 'The state of our relationship has been in a fragile space and Gervonta and I were both at fault for the argument. 'While the emotions were running high I made an unnecessary call to law enforcement at an intense moment while I was frantic. Gervonta did not harm me or our daughter. 'Today, we have sought the help necessary to move forward with our lives. I am confident that we will succeed within our co-parenting dynamic with the counselling provided to us.' Davis commented on the situation in a since-deleted Instagram post. 'I NEVER PUT MY HANDS ON MY CHILD MOTHER NOR MY F***ING DAUGHTER ARE YOU F***ING CRAZY!!' Davis wrote. 'I'M NOT A MONSTER.' Other incidents involving Davis included a simple battery domestic violence charge after grabbing an ex-girlfriend by the throat in 2020, dropped assault charges from 2017 after he allegedly punched a friend in the head, and a disorderly conduct charge from a street brawl in 2018. He owns a 30-0-1 record in boxing and is slated to rematch Lamont Roach Jr. on August 16. There is no indication whether or not Davis' arrest will influence the date of the fight.

Daughter's demand for answers after her mother dies in Albany hit-and-run
The daughter of a woman killed in a hit-and-run in Western Australia's Great Southern says the family is heartbroken and desperate for answers. Bronwyn Clark was hit by a car on Hardie Road in Spencer Park, a suburb of Albany, at about 8pm on Wednesday. She was taken to Albany Health Campus for treatment but died as a result of her injuries. Bethanie Clark said her mother was a remarkable woman whose presence lit up every room and every life she touched. "Bronny was not only a devoted mother, but a dedicated nurse, a carer, a best friend, and a warm, vibrant soul who brought joy, laughter, and love to all who knew her," she said. "She gave so much of herself to others, both professionally and personally, and her legacy of kindness, warmth and generosity will live on in the countless people she helped, healed and inspired." Detectives believe the car involved was a mid-sized, dark-coloured SUV. Major crash detectives and forensics officers were seen investigating a vehicle matching that description in Albany's city centre on Friday. Detective Senior Sergeant Hugh Letessier urged whoever was behind the wheel of the vehicle involved to come forward. "Whoever was driving would know that they struck something or someone on the road," he said. Police said a couple witnessed the incident. "As they drove past they saw the vehicle involved drive over the victim," Senior Sergeant Letessier said. Police confirmed that a person was assisting with their investigation, but no charges had been laid. Bethanie Clark said her family want answers on what happened. "What happened to her is a terrible tragedy," she said. "Our family is pleading with anyone who may have information about the driver responsible to please come forward." Senior Sergeant Letessier said he was hopeful more information would be forthcoming. "There's always CCTV around that captures something and when we piece it all together it provides us with a clear picture of what occurred and also points us in the direction of those people and the vehicle involved," he said. "We know the vehicle drove past the hospital a short time later. "At the time of the incident, which is captured on CCTV, there's no suggestion of any reckless or dangerous driving." Driver who killed pedestrian in hit and run and tried to cover it up sentenced to jail
A man who killed a pedestrian in Brisbane last year while he was "daydreaming" has been sentenced to five years in jail. In the District Court in Brisbane on Friday, Joshua Alexander Scott, who torched his car in an attempt to hide evidence of the hit and run, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing death as well as arson of a motor vehicle. During a sentencing hearing, the court heard the then 35-year-old had been driving to work just after 5am in Chermside when he ran a red light in March 2024. The court heard Ian Victor Colwell, 72, had been on his regular morning walk when he was struck by Scott as he crossed that intersection. After briefly stopping his car and making eye contact with a witness, Scott then sped away, leaving Mr Colwell face down on the road with significant injuries including a bleeding and cracked skull. Bystanders called triple-zero, and Mr Colwell was rushed to hospital, but he suffered a fatal cardiac arrest in the ambulance. In the meantime, the court heard Scott drove to a friend's house, and told them what he had done, before changing his clothes. He then called his partner and told her to wipe CCTV footage of him leaving their home in the car that morning, and to delete messages between them. Scott then drove to Wavell Heights where he poured accelerant through the car and set it alight, before heading to work. Crown prosecutor Cameron Wilkins told the court Scott had concocted a story that the car had been stolen and tried to set up an alibi with his boss, in a bid to avoid detection. Mr Wilkins told the court Scott was arrested at his workplace later that morning and initially lied to police, but later confessed, telling them he was "daydreaming" when he hit Mr Colwell. "His conscience got the best of him," he said. The court heard Scott had a lengthy criminal history and had been on a suspended sentence for drug-related charges at the time of the collision. He also had dozens of convictions for driving offences, including 29 for speeding and multiple for drunk and drug-affected driving. "The defendant's traffic history is deplorable," Mr Wilkins said. Reading a victim impact statement on behalf of their family, Mr Colwell's nephew Damian Colwell told the court the "sudden and senseless and violent" death had left them "broken". "Not just the fact he died … but the way his life was cruelly and needlessly taken from us," he said. "Our family gatherings will forever feel incomplete." Mr Colwell said they struggled to comprehend how "such indifference" to human life could exist in the community. "He was struck down without care or compassion and left alone in his final moments," he said. He described Mr Colwell as an "active and generous member of his community". "His leadership and care cannot easily be replaced," he said. The court heard Scott had provided a letter of apology and his parents, who were there to support him, also submitted a letter of reference for their son. When determining his sentence Judge John Allen KC acknowledged the family's heartbreak and accepted the offending had caused "enormous loss and harm". Scott was handed a head sentence of five years and, with time already served, will be eligible to apply for parole in November. He was also disqualified from driving.
