CELTIC proved last season they could mix it with some of the best in Europe in the Champions League.
But despite coming close to a major upset against Bayern Munich, Ally McCoist reckons they are more suited to the Europa League at this moment in time.

And the same goes for Rangers.
Celtic reached the first round of the knockout phase in last season's Champions League, losing to the Bundesliga giants 3-2 on aggregate.
It was 2-2 heading into stoppage time in Germany but Alphonso Davies popped up in the 94th minute after Celtic had gone 1-0 up on the night thanks to Nicolas Kuhn.
The Hoops recorded wins over Slovan Bratislava, RB Leipzig and BSC Young Boys and picked up valuable points against Atalanta, Club Brugge and Dinamo Zagreb along the way.
But they were dealt a heavy 7-1 defeat early on by Borussia Dortmund and also lost 4-2 to Aston Villa later in the league phase.
It's perhaps with that in mind that McCoist says Celtic would be more suited to the Europa League, as they could go on a serious run in that tournament the same way Rangers have done recently.
The Light Blues reached the Europa League final in 2022 and have made it into the knockout stages in every season they've taken part in the competition since 2019-20 - including a run to the quarter-finals in the first year of the new format last season.
Speaking on talkSPORT this morning, McCoist said: "Taking the first game against Panathinaikos, Rangers were very good, and a great home result in the next round.
"In the away leg they weren't superb, but I was always confident they were going to go through.
"I think this is a different game, the opposition is obviously of a far better standard. I saw Brugge last season and they are a level up.
Rangers must cut out 'sloppy, stupid goals' plus Celtic are playing with fire
"Financially, it would mean so much to both Scottish clubs if they could make it through to the league phase of the Champions League.
"Whether they are equipped to handle it...well, Celtic proved last year with a couple of good performances, particularly at home, you can qualify.
"I think both clubs, to be brutally honest, are Europa League clubs at this moment in time. They can certainly go further in that tournament
"Celtic have a game against Kairat Almaty of Kazakhstan, and I would expect them to qualify, I really would.
"Rangers have a chance, I would suggest then go in as second favourites, but financially, just to be able to compete [with Celtic], they have to make it through."
Celtic play Kairat Almaty on Wednesday night at Celtic Park with Rangers in action tonight at Ibrox, with qualification for the Champions League league phase at stake.
Dropping into the Europa League is the consolation prize.

Simon Jordan dismisses 'foolish' Rangers expectation as Russell Martin moaners told even Pep couldn't work Ibrox miracles

Some fans are calling for Martin to be sacked after just a few games following the 3-1 Champions League playoff defeat to Brugge Simon Jordan has told any Rangers fans expecting Russell Martin to have fixed all their problems by now are "bloody foolish." ‌ The Ibrox boss is on the end of a Champions League backlash after a first leg playoff defeat at home to Club Brugge. ‌ Some woeful defending from the hosts saw the Belgians race into a 3-0 lead after just 20 minutes, sparking an early exit for a number of fans. ‌ And despite Danilo's strike early in the second half, the Light Blues have given themselves a mountain to climb in Belgium in order to qualify for the League Phase and bank the £40million jackpot that comes with it. It's not as if Martin can point to a strong domestic start either, having drawn both of his games away to Motherwell and at home to Dundee respectively. With Rangers having backed out of a request to postpone Sunday's trip to St Mirren in order to aid their Champions League ambitions, the pressure is on to pick up maximum points in Paisley. But talkSport host Jordan is attempting to inject some realism into the hysteria, warning that not even the best bosses on the planet could have transformed Rangers in such a short space of time. He said: 'Now, going to the situation with Rangers, the two goals being referred to, he can't do much about the communication between a goalkeeper and a centre-back, and he can't do much about players not doing their jobs besides drilling it into them over a period of time. ‌ 'And if anybody feels you can fix a team's ails and challenges in six games, then they're bloody foolish. Because no one can do it. You can get the best manager in the world, you can get Guardiola in there, and he will not get exactly what you require of the players.' Ex-Celtic star hit with massive tax bill of nearly £500k – as judge takes cheeky pop at his playing career

The ex-Celtic midfielder was sent off as Craig Brown's men were humiliated by Morocco, crashing out of the 1998 tournament in France. In his decision published last week, Judge Mark Baldwin said: "Mr Burley used to be a professional footballer. '[His lawyer] Mr Cannon told us that he played for Scotland in the World Cup, although not how well Scotland fared." Burley invested some of his earnings as a TV pundit through a complex scheme backing new movies - but HMRC hit him with a whopping demand backdated to 2011. The 53-year-old appealed but the latest judgement by the First-Tier Tribunal means he will have to stump up £466,000 worth of cash. Judge Baldwin's stinging jibe will add insult to injury for the ESPN co-commentator, whose legal fees are likely to push his bill past £500,000. Burley - who also played for Chelsea and Derby County - played in all three games of Scotland's ill-fated campaign at France 98. In the opening match, they were beaten by reigning champions Brazil thanks to an own-goal by his Parkhead teammate Tom Boyd. Scotland then missed a stack of chances against Norway, eventually drawing 1-1 with Burley netting a second-half equaliser. But he was sent off for a late tackle in their final game against Morocco, who won 3-0 to leave Brown's team rock bottom of the group. Sarmiento launch a throw back shirt design inspired by Celtic Scotland have not been back to the World Cup finals since, but the new qualifying campaign to reach North America 2026 kicks off in Denmark next month. Burley retired as a player in 2004 with 46 international caps under his belt and has worked as a pundit for the BBC, ITV and BT Sport. The contested tax bill was run up between 2010/11 and 2016/17, during which time, ironically, he was working as a pundit on two World Cup finals. He put some of his earnings in two investment schemes, which looked to take advantage of tax breaks available for funding new films. But some of the profits were then distributed to a company, Craig Burley Ltd, that would pay a lower rate of corporation tax. The tribunal ruled Burley should pay the higher rate of PAYE on the whole amount. Judge Baldwin - who heard the case with JP John Agboola - is originally from Yorkshire. A retired corporate tax solicitor, he is also a professor at Durham Law School. Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page
